Reilly Gibbons to Stanford

Lol at the people saying you can't pass up a chance at a Stanford education like Miami is a **** school. GTFOH

I AM blaming the kid for fcking us at the 11th hour. But unless this kid had his sights set on being a pro football player, getting a degree from Stanford is a golden ticket. A full ride to Stanford, if you actually care about education and a degree is pretty hard to pass up.

Read the **** article. Kids father is gushing about the Stanford education and what an opportunity that is. He barely mentioned football as a reason the kid flipped.

You're a massive joke.

Lol. Ok. Real talk. I did the same thing this kid did. So go cry that bull sht to someone else. I got offered a **** nice package to go to a top school and took it and bolted Miami, despite having taken classes at UM having friends there and having a pretty nice offer from them.

Weren't many people who thought I was crazy or wrong for going where I went which is somewhat on par with Stanford.

Dawg, I like you..but you gotta stop at this point. You have to realize there's something very wrong here. You're not a dummy, either lose the shtick or wake up.

That wasn't a loss if we get JC. But.......

I honestly think there is a bit of an overreaction here. Yea, it sucks we lost him.

Is it a big loss? No.

The problem is people say this after every decommitment. At a certain point, the "little losses" add up

I'd take every guy we're in the running for on NSD over Gibbons. OL is our biggest strength. Nigel was a bigger loss.

The staff stopped recruiting Nigel. That wasn't a loss.

LOL The excuses of education come into play. Remember FSU held on to their prize recruit in Winston when Stanford came in late. But people say it's impossible to beat out a Stanford education. Need to change our name to Excuse U.

Winston isn't at FSU for an education. He knows he is head to either the NFL or MLB. College is just a stopping spot. He has to do a lot less work also to get his degree from FSU then he would have had to at Stanford. Reilly is going to a school for football as a means to get a free education. Apples and Oranges.

I have no problem with any kid picking duke or Stanford over miami. But the family kept saying reilly was solid the whole time and wouldn't take visits anymore. More disappointed in our staff than the kid. I understand how great the education is, but it was just a shady move.

Why disappointed in the staff if his family said he was solid and not taking anymore visits?

Because when a kid has been committed for 9 months+ I expect them to sign with us. Idc that gibbons said it has nothing to Miami. If you told Gibbons a good enough pitch, he would've said no to Stanford because it was too late and he would've signed with Miami.

Are his parents lawyers or something along those lines?
I don't think a "pitch" would have kept him committed to UM.
Basically, he is going to a better school, academically, and right now their football program is superior to ours.
No brainer.
I do agree it's still a byitch move to do this late in the recruiting cycle, especially if our coaches didn't
know they took the visit to Stanford.

So the parents were going force him to Stanford? In that case why didn't he go to Duke which was one of his finalists?

Stanford has a better team than us and Duke. That obviously had to play in to his decision

Gibbons and his fam were very much involved, informed and educated on this process. The Stanford education obviously was a factor but me thinks they were also very uncomfortable about something down here.

Scary. The wheels are officially falling off.

Prolly would have been third team til 2016. Replaceable

Can't seem to catch a break! I guess I could understand losing kids to Stanford or even Duke for academics. However, some of these recruits cite that academics are important to them, but they sign with schools like FSU and LSU?

I can't wait for NSD to be over with.

I want to go from this...

You know it's bad when the staff members have had it with the staff.

I haven't had it with the staff. Coley is the one keeping this class somewhat relevant, though.

Pete, I don't know if you can answer this question or not, but internally, do some feel that Golden has mentally "checked out" of Miami because he had his heart set on the Penn State gig and didn't get it?

I think the sooner we accept there are not going to be any surprises....at least good surprises for us and that this staff cannot get the job done the better off we'll be as fans.... I was on the AG bandwagon a long time and my faith is now gone ... Idk a coach that is realistic that could get us back to Miami standards at this point... Assuming Shalala won't hire butch ... And it'd still be can uphill battle

Since Coley seems to be the only member of the staff getting anything done on the recruiting trail, every other coach better be frantically baking more motherf***king cookie cakes to our current commits to show them how badly we need them.

Has nothing to do with him "checking out". He is who is.

Oh come on...these kids are doing what they want to do for themselves...and they should.

The reason I stressed those numbers is because that's all everyone throws out there to justify how awful it is to lose someone. You gotta take a step back and look at the big picture. It's not a big loss relative to the current roster and current recruiting class. As for "the tape" everybody has "good tape".
