Reilly Gibbons to Stanford

Is their any chance Gibbons was squeezed out due to more "big fish" coming on board soon

Nice to see our classy fan base saying good things about their favorite program.

You shut your dirty whorish mouth.

You're a Wake Forrest fan.

I'm sorry but if Stanford wanted this kid on their OL he isn't a kid to cut loose. I don't imagine Al would've cut a kid this late unless there were so e crazy circumstances, like an armed robbery. Anyone seen Nate Harris? **** I love the U but a Stanford offer would make even me pause for a moment. In fact Stanford might be the only institution I would consider if I could go to Miami. So yeah this sucks for us IMO.

Did I just read a "Now, NEXT year! The 2015 class is GREAT!" post? Ozark, what's going on?

The campus might be pretty, but everything else out there cost so much more, and traffic is a nightmare. My sister moved out there a year ago and is trying to move back to ohio.

The fact anyone blames a kid for going to one of the best schools in the country is hilarious.

The only thing I can think of negative though about it is Jonathan Martin....

Nobody cut this kid loose. Anyone insinuating that or saying it needs to have their head examined. This kid was a solid prospect. He wasnt McDermott but a solid kid with a great frame. He needed a few years, and would have probably RS, but it was definitely a kid we wanted. The loss hurts and it sucks. The timing of this is the real kick in the b@lls. I dont think he was irreplacable, but at this point, its going to be **** hard to find a quality replacement, so that's where he really f*cked us. If the staff knew Stanford was in play, and slept on it, then they f*cked up. If he led them on until now and just dropped it on them out of the blue, kid royally F8cked us, and its on him. Still will be interesting to see if the staff DOES have any contingency plans. I think that would be a good measure of how organized and prepared they are.

St. Petersburg Catholic offensive tackle Reilly Gibbons has flipped his oral commitment from Miami to Stanford Saturday evening, according to his father Shannon.

Speaking from Palo Alto, Calif. where Reilly Gibbons is taking an unexpected official visit to Stanford, Shannon Gibbons said his son scheduled the trip because he wanted to be sure about his decision. His only other previous official visit was to Miami, and he committed to the Hurricanes on April 8 in a ceremony in the St. Petersburg Catholic gymnasium.

Reilly Gibbons is a 6-5, 302-pound left tackle, and was one of most recruited players in Tampa Bay with 47 offers. He was a Times All-County and All-Suncoast pick this season after paving the way for a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, and also earned first-team Class 3A all-state honors.

Shannon Gibbons declined to say when the official visit to Stanford was planned, but said it was his son's decision.
"This is all driven by Reilly,'' he said. "He's a young kid and he's matured during this process and he has a pretty good idea what he wants and how he wants to get there."

Shannon Gibbons said he was surprised when Reilly suggested the visit. He has another son, 6-4, 255-pound freshman Dillan, who starts for St. Petersburg Catholic and will play games on Friday nights, making it difficult for the family to now see Reilly play.

"But those are my own or my wife's selfish reasons,'' Shannon said.

Gibbons decided he'd rather attend Stanford than Miami Saturday evening. Shannon Gibbons said his son called Miami immediately to inform them of his decision.

"Reilly is a really smart kid and he wanted the best possible education he could get along with the best football, and Stanford was one of those schools that offered both,'' Shannon Gibbons said.

Based on the contradiction between Reilly's father's post on here and his decision, Al Tin would be the perfect corch for Reilly.

Which pillar was named for Reilly?

is this Joe Rose?
1. Any of you knuckleheads ever BEEN to Stanford. It's a beautiful campus next to the tech center of the world. (I am a Cal grad so it's hard to admit that)
2. Stanford diploma vs UM; no contest. My kid goes to UM but the Stanford paper goes farther in life.
3. Maybe the kid didn't want to redshirt. (See below)
4. Everything doesn't HAVE to be Golden's "fault". He's made mistakes. The D sucked and the bowl was embarrassing. But, that doesn't mean that EVERY misfortune is his fault. By claiming so you all lose credibility.

Finish Strong Canes...Fight to the end.

Gibbons heads west: Three-star offensive tackle Reilly Gibbons, who committed to Miami before his senior season, will instead accept a scholarship to Stanford according to veteran recruiting reporter Jamie Newberg.

Gibbons (6-6, 292), from Saint Petersburg Catholic, is the nation’s 28th-best offensive tackle prospect, according to 247Sports.com’s composite ratings.

Two of UM’s incoming freshman offensive linemen (Kc McDermott and Trevor Darling) enrolled in January. UM has a commitment from Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas’ Nick Linder, who projects as a center and is the brother of graduated standout Brandon Linder.

Gibbons, who switched from tight end to offensive tackle before his senior year of high school, would have been a redshirt candidate for the Canes, who return three offensive line starters, have four players with experience and two early enrollees ranked in the top 10 at their position nationally (according to 247Sports, McDermott is No. 3; Darling is No. 9).

Wonder if this is the reason we started recruiting the JC OT that popped up here a few days back, maybe the staff was realizing Reily was slipping.
