Red Shirts

Unless they're serious about using Homer, Bruce, Richards as major parts of the offense I would redshirt the three of them.

Look at this list of returning talent on the rooster:

kaaya
coley
yearby
njoku
cager
walton
berrios
herndon
edwards
lewis
dobard
gray
tucker
langham
washington
batten

There is no ******* way they're redshirting all 3 WR's, IMO they all play this season.

I think these kids are all locks for this year's offense:

kaaya
coley
yearby
njoku
cager
walton
berrios
herndon
edwards

I simply don't see anyone wrangling away playing time from any single one of these guys considering the amount of experience they have and the talent they've displayed.

I think we would all like to see Bruce return kicks and punts. I also think that Richards could easily overtake Lewis as the 4th WR.

The reason I think we COULD redshirt everyone on offense is because we have enough targets that Kaaya is comfortable throwing to.

He loves throwing to Yearby and Walton out of the backfield. Loves throwing to Njoku and Herndon. Has been throwing to Coley, Cager, Berrios, Lewis for a good while. You could also plug Gray and Langham in there as pass catchers.

I do think Bruce and Richards will play ultimately.

We have Stacy Coley, David Njoku and a whole lot of unknowns on the offense for Kaaya to throw too. Let's see who steps up in the spring game.

Some players I can think of that Al should've redshirted...

Herb Waters
Tyriq McCord (to gain weight)
Trayone Gray
Tyrie St. Louis
Tracy Howard
Jelani Hamilton
Jamal Carter
Deon Bush (medical his soph year)
Jermaine Grace (to gain weight)
Rapahael Kirby

I'm sure there are more that should've been as well.
Hamilton redshirted later. I think youre thinking about a different Miami team than the one I watched. Agree totally on Gray and probably StLouis but guys like Waters and a bunch of those others were some of the better guys at their positions. Golden was looking to win games and score points with recruits by showing them he plays freshmen. Its not "ideal" for the long term strength of the program tho.
Miami is just going to start having to win a lot more games before we can be in a position to be able to keep a star recruit on redshirt.

Naw Golden was a clown who didn't have a clue how to manage a roster. Burning redshirts just to fill a whole on the Punt team. Herb Waters played only two snaps his freshman year....
Absolutely a clown....didnt know Herb only played 2 snaps. So you mean we could have had an extra disappointing season from him? Cool
But for real...that is another good example of wasting a year...terrible roster mgmnt...thats worse than Gray!
Herb Waters caught 10 passes for 227 yards and 2 td his freshman year. People are making up a lot of crap.

****! He averaged 5 receptions per snap! That some impressive **** right there!

Berrios,Yearby,Walton and Cager have all displayed play making ability in our passing offense. They are "not' unknowns but rather players who are all greatly needed to step up their games and make this an explosive offense in 2016.

If any body out there know a recruit...mention RS and then watch the expression on their face... In the eyes of a Recruit RS is bad... If we RS this many kids it will hurt recruiting... Like i said in another thread we know that RS is not a bad thing but they don't see it that way...How many times this year have you heard a recruit say i plan to come in and contribute early...And honestly i don't know if i want a kid that has the mindset that he needs a RS...maybe at QB but thats it.. a true stud wants to contribute.

LMAO!!! We haven't won **** in a decade and you think a 4* recruit is coming to Miami to redshirt. Trust me only reason they came to Miami was because early playing time.

+1

So true!

It seems like redshirting gets overthought to me. If a guy can contribute--even if it is consistent ST play--then he can play. If he is not ready to contribute and will not play, then redshirting is a good idea. I don't think you need to think about whether he'll be around as a RS-Sr because we never know. Maybe he gets injured and never becomes what you thought. You only know now. I don't think you can base redshirts on what future recruits want. Tell the recruits that they can play early if they earn the right. I don't know how redshirting is a worse message than "hey don't redshirt just play 8 plays."

Redshirting hurts you a bit when you can't get mediocre guys through fast enough, but again you only know now.
