Red Shirts

Everyone except the three receivers, and maybe Shaq should redshirt. Simple as that.
So you want the freshman DBs to redshirt 2016?

Plan to redshirt them. If they're needed then alter the plan.

Players like Finley, Wright, Young, Pinckney, and McCloud will be needed next year to start or be primary backups. We need them to gain experience THIS year.
Exactly. People *****ed about Redwine and Cager playing last year and guess what? Now we need them to be big time starters! Im glad they played last year.

I would say the following should RS from the 2016 class:

Allison
Bethal
Homer - so much depth at RB, not needed this year
Martin
Johnson
James
Haskins? - Maybe
Irvin? - Maybe
Thats a solid list...realistic.

The most talented guys are looking for 3 and out. How does this fit into redshirting, which means 5 years. It happens, but usually because of injury. I'm not convinced by the redshirt argument.

You can go out with 2 good years. Happens a lot.
So, then, why redshirt?

For development. The previous poster says most kids want to go out after 3- you can do that even with a redshirt. Now if they don't pan out to be good enough to go after those 2 years, then you redshirted them to develop them and have them 4 years to play. Redshirt them if you know they won't get burn. I think the 3 receivers, Shaq, Malek, and one S might be the only ones that they'll need to contribute. The others may not be needed. I see no point in having them not play and also not redshirting. Like I said, plan to red shirt then but if they're needed use them. Don't go into it saying everyone is playing.

Lol Okay, we're talking about guys who want to be 3 and out, and now we're talking about guys redshirting after 2 years. Not following the logic here because I don't think there is any.

Bottom line is you redshirt freshmen who need some special development early on, or you don't redshirt them at all. If a kid can't perform in his 4th year in the program, then he was a development project, not a 3 and out guy.

Injuries are obviously a seperate issue.

Yeah this whole redshirt issue is getting out of hand... People think we have these kids for awhile...

Unless the kid needs to add on major weight/strength to even get in a rotation at his position if he's able to contribute as a quality backup/starter/special teams you play them and let them get some burn

Some players I can think of that Al should've redshirted...

Herb Waters
Tyriq McCord (to gain weight)
Trayone Gray
Tyrie St. Louis
Tracy Howard
Jelani Hamilton
Jamal Carter
Deon Bush (medical his soph year)
Jermaine Grace (to gain weight)
Rapahael Kirby

I'm sure there are more that should've been as well.
Hamilton redshirted later. I think youre thinking about a different Miami team than the one I watched. Agree totally on Gray and probably StLouis but guys like Waters and a bunch of those others were some of the better guys at their positions. Golden was looking to win games and score points with recruits by showing them he plays freshmen. Its not "ideal" for the long term strength of the program tho.
Miami is just going to start having to win a lot more games before we can be in a position to be able to keep a star recruit on redshirt.

Naw Golden was a clown who didn't have a clue how to manage a roster. Burning redshirts just to fill a whole on the Punt team. Herb Waters played only two snaps his freshman year....

Absolutely a clown....didnt know Herb only played 2 snaps. So you mean we could have had an extra disappointing season from him? Cool
But for real...that is another good example of wasting a year...terrible roster mgmnt...thats worse than Gray!

LMAO!!! We haven't won **** in a decade and you think a 4* recruit is coming to Miami to redshirt. Trust me only reason they came to Miami was because early playing time.

i think alllison, haskins, irvin are sure things. we have depth and talent at te in njoku, herndon and dobard to allow them to red****. and qb is set this year so allison can gain weight and muscle and red****. bethel is a solid player but not sure if will rs, homer probably unless want on return teams, tre johnson and martin i think are guys who will rs also. james with only 1 yr hs is a sure thing as well id guess.

Herb Waters caught 10 passes for 227 yards and 2 td his freshman year. People are making up a lot of crap.

Lol is that worth burning a redshirt to you? Most of those "huge" numbers were from one game late in the season. Smh

Most of these guys barely got on the field except on STs... It wasn't about not winning, its not like thry committed to UM bcy they loved the idea of only conttibuting on STs most of their freshmen year...I'm sure most of these guys would've been good with sitting out a year instead of sitting on the bench most of the season.
