Recruiting Recap 12/11

I fully expect Collins to fall in love with UF now.

For whatever reason, kid just seems intent on not coming to Miami, almost a complete 180 of everything he'd been saying for months. I don't know if the kid is just flighty like that or something happened to make him sour on Miami.

Pete, you guys talk to Collins, do you get the sense that he's still going to give Miami a fair shot, or if he's busily and actively looking for an alternative instead?

And Pete and any of you other guys that have seen them in person, since it's a distinct possibility that we're getting one but not the other...

Who's the better prospect? AJL or Coley?

(And, when it comes to Coley, I feel really bad that I lost all my old high school contacts, since I actually went to Northeast High in the late 90's. Even played football for a semester before moving OOS).

Peter,

Are any of Miami's coaches considered on par with Gran and Coley when it comes to recruiting?

Difference of recruiting priorities. Gran and Coley are monsters in recruiting the S. Florida area big names and above average recruiters elsewhere.

Golden, Fisch, and Kehoe are monsters in recruiting players that fit their mold and closing them out. They are not limited to a region and are make more noise in the regions they go hard at.

thanks for the info. I often read about recruits talking to "Miami". But when it come to other schools, I hear specific names mentioned more often like Gran, Coley, Hurtt, Lupoi, Tee Martin, T- Rob and so on. Barrow used to get mentioned a lot. I really thought he was a superstar recruiter..

If those two coaches are elite at recruiting why not add them to our staff? I think it benefits us a lot more.

Because recruiting is only half the battle. They seem to do less with more. Our staff seems to do more with less (see Rashawn, Eddie Johnson, Morris, Waters and other guys like Donald Brown, Jordan Todman).

Also, other things to consider is offense philosophy and whether or not they're the right fit for the main man's (see dude in tie) plan.

Regarding Barrow, he's a really good recruiter. What buried us, was Randy's recruiting tendencies, Coker's lack of proper scouting/development, and Nevingate.

As steep a hill as it may be, the good thing is that we're actually climbing it and not slipping down. Trust me, kids like Keith Brown, Keith Bryant, Alex Collins and others are being fed Miami-negativity. I believe Duke confirmed this last year.

Wait, did you just say Kehoe?! Since when has he been a MONSTER recruiter at closing kids out? He's not even the main recruiter involved in recruiting Kirkland a player for a position he coaches.

Gran and Coley also have the impeccable ability of offering D3 teammates.

Gran strikes me as the polished used car salesman extraordinaire. he is probably everyone's be$t buddy and will tell you exactly what you want to hear

Let's wait to compare our staff to Gran and Coley when our staff gets the benefit of not having to recruit with both hands tied behind their backs. I'm not sure many appreciate just how devastating this NCAA cloud is, and the longer it goes on the more ammunition it is giving our opposition. You can rest assured they're telling recruits that this thing is dragging on so long because we're going to get killed. Good luck convincing a top-rated JUCO with 2 years of eligibility to come here when he's being told repeatedly that he won't be able to play in a bowl game if he comes here.

Doesn't he get an input of which offensive linemen to pursue? He did get Travis Johnson, Jeremy Kerr, and Alex Gall for this year. Rivals has him and Barrow listed as the recruiters for Denver Kirkland. My bad though if I'm wrong, he just comes across as a bad ***.

So Pete anything on who they are going to target for DTs now?

I'm sure they are talking to kids that we just haven't heard of yet...and I'm not giving up on Bryant yet. He is still being recruited

Think we can get Bryant on campus?

Yes, I think it's very possible.

Excellent. If we get him on campus we should be able to close; preferably close to signing day. Maybe the same weekend as Alex Collins.

Keith Bryant is a weirdo. Bizarre how he acts towards UM.
Yeah and aren't we the first school that gave him his 1st D1 scholly? WTF with this kid...? He sounded like the most commited the whole year and now he wants to act a fool... he is ****ing me off more than any recruit...

yeah, really bizarre that he would commit to UM early then act this way. not even taking an official? i know he's young, but that does not completely explain his actions. tough loss. he'd be a great addition in an area of need.
