The talent at DE is getting back to where it should always be at the U.
Is he really 6' 6"?
Measured in at the opening at 6'5
Not many HS DEs are ready to be every down guys in college, but Thomas is better equiped than most. He clearly needs to develop his body muscle wise, but his functional strenth is very impressive and he has excellent leverage, especially for a guy his height. I like the JPP comparison because Thomas probably ends up at 270-280, but he has a lot of Jason Taylor in him, who was a great run defender even when he was 235-245 at 6-6, because of his leverage and functional strength. He's not going to be an every down end as a freshmen, because he won't need to be, but I'll be shocked if Thomas isn't a dominant run and pass defender in 2 years.
Look, I saw the play at the Opening where he ran over Damien Mama. That, as an isolated play, WAS F*CKING AWESOME!!!!
However, Thomas doesn't show that strength on a consistent basis. He himself has said he needs to improve his strength.
Chad Thomas should be a 5* prospect by the time the process is over, so yes, I'm nitpicking. I'm not saying he's some Poindexter without an ounce of strength, but to be consistently successful at the Collegiate level, he will need to add size and functional strength.

Would you say he's stronger than AQM at the same stage?

Interesting. My eyes say something different. Chad seems to lack weight room strength, but looks like he has better strength (at the same time) that comes from hips. The way he bends and times his explosion, he looks like a wrestler. If he starts a weight program in January, by August I think he'll be as strong (as it relates to the field) as any DE we've had here in a while.
I haven't gotten a chance to watch him live this year. Looking forward to it.
