Reasons last series rest on the ball was correct.

Contrary to popular belief we weren’t exactly gashing a elite Clemson defense. The previous 2 drives we went 40 yards in 5+ minutes for a field goal and something like 15 plays and almost 10 minutes to go 75 yards.

Take away B Smiths 80 yard TD and we averaged about 3 yards a carry. Colbie Young had the long catch for 25 yards. Next longest was 12. I believe everything else was under 10 yards. It’s not as if we were holding back all game and EW was going to turn into Dorsey against FSU in 00.

So many on here arguing to open it up. Not with a 1st time freshman starter playing against that defense with probably a day or two of work with the 1s. Be thankful we won and hope if he has to go this week he and Dawson are working the game plan every minute of the next 5+ days.

So you're "iffing" your way to a loss? Big fan.

No, read it again. Tell me about those superior game plans with true freshmen against elite defenses. You made the claim. Let's hear it.
It's a true freshman in his first start. Leave it at that. Adding the top 10 defense narrative is weak and it's negated by the Oline and homefield advantage.

leave it as a true freshman QB making his first power 5 start. the gameplan sucked. Period.

Cause how was that a good gameplan when the CORE of it was executed extremely poor.

The screen game was absolute trash and you're now trying to tell me the gameplan was too put our True frosh in a 3rd and long blender? Stop it.

My thinking at the time was.. a program like Clemson, you can’t let them live to see another day, or they’ll make you pay.

Wasn’t sure the team was mature enough to keep Clemson from winning.

Really glad I was wrong.

Seriously. What game did these guys watch that makes them believe Emory was about to chunk his way down the field with impunity after barely getting lined up?!?

- Mario made command decison to entrust offensive command decison to OC
- Dawson made command decison to take game into OT
-- Risk of on brand Miami catastrophic failure with 40 secs and needing about 40-ish yards
-- Young QB facing potential of rabid jailbreak blitz D
-- Strip sack = disaster
- Guidry felt his unit could give Dawson's unit a puncher's chance for FG/TD victory

I commend the on-field coaches for their command decisions.

Post of the day. Well done soldier.

You take a shot down field with ten seconds left considering you have a time out. It all worked out but the clock management was inexcusable on the last drive no matter how you cut it.

It wasn't "clock management". They decided to go to overtime. Y'all are acting like we were trying to score but didn't use the clock correctly.

I think it would be interesting to see a comparison of posters who thought we were gonna get boat raced by Clemson because we were starting a true freshman QB and those who thought Mario should have let Emory Williams take some shots in the final minute of a tie game. lol
I want to see the overlap of people who thought we would get boat raced with a TF QB, and those that now think we would have won by 3TDs with Tyler lol.

If the right call was to go conservative and play for OT. Then they should have taken a knee and not run the ball there. Could have risked another fumble. Am I rite?

It absolutely was. They were definitely trying to score at the outset. Then when they couldn’t figure out the play and let the clock run down to 23 ticks or whatever …. Then the decision was made to call it. They shouldn’t have had to even be in that position.

Playing conservatively was fine. But why then call a pass play with 22 seconds left after a Chaney first down? Williams was chased out of the pocket and threw the ball away.
Seems schizophrenic buy maybe the strategy was to throw downfield. If it worked, you could then try a field goal. In the case of an interception, Clemson wouldn’t have much time to score in regulation.
Still, seems odd. Either you’re gonna protect your young QB or you’re not.

Even if you ran the ball every play you could have done it with urgency. Disagree completely. But glad it worked out.

1. Hind sight is 20/20 it worked.
2. Freshman Qb. No 2 min drill. Lots of risks.
3. Borregales vs. Clemson kicker is night and day.
4. Clemson D line was gassed.
5. OT. has no clock. Can run at will. No way were we making it down the field without running. Wasn’t doable with the little time left.

Good call Mario.
The rationale I’ve seen adverse to that drive is mind boggling..but boils down to the fact a lot ppl think football is madden..how many 2min situations do ppl think Emory has run the last 2months?

I was so pi$$ed at the time for not going for it. The one thing I hate is how conservative Mario gets but you know what he got it right. I was wrong. I didn't think we could win in overtime just by running the ball and lol Mario got it right. The timeouts he called in overtime to set the defense up during the goal line against clemson was perfectly called. He outcoached Dabo

6. Miami was the better team.

Better to put us in a controlled overtime scenario where the better team is likely to win vs putting us in a situation where any fluke thing can happen in the last minute. If we would have tried to get to field goal position and we go 3-and-out, then Clemson still had enough time to go down and kick a field goal for the fluke win. I said during the game that the coaches made the right decision while y'all were blasting Cristobal, and it turned out the right way. And believe me I'm no slurper, but it was the right decision in the moment and it was the right decision in hindsight.
No it was not the right decision!!!!!! Because a la Herm Edwards (you play to win the game!!! Hello!?!?!). With your logic maybe since that was the plan then maybe they should have taken the knee for 3 straight downs being that the Tigers had only 2 timeouts and we got the ball back with about 1:26, no? Doesn’t matter we won anyway but should have attempted to get a few yards passing to get in field goal range for the game winner as time expired because again remember that fluke fumble that happened vs The Mighty Honey Bees 🐝???? SMDH that is scary as/s mentality in my book
