and Im sure Hurricane Vision will touch on this in-depth....

But I saw this one blitz package that was somewhat like the Amari Carter sack vs Vatech. It was one where both Redwine and Bandy came off the same side on a 3rd and 6th as Ian Book came into the game. Joe Jackson actually slide into more of an inside gap before the snap and those two(who were lined up on his side) ran into the backfield(IIRC, Redwine actually looped inside) and Bandy got pressure and flushed out Book who was able to throw for a first down.

I haven't seen a lot of blitz's where two DB's come off the same side. Yeah, Diaz has some exotic stuff. We came with Bandy a few times this game off the edge. It's clear he's going to be a Swiss army knife defensively

Overall, this game I didn't see any of the delayed blitzes that many on the board hated. Diaz was really on top of it this game, his guys were really well prepared and the overall intensity they displayed was incredible. Even on the lone TD drive, Miami was hitting the QB, getting sacks.

We played mostly Cover 2 and rushed 4 with an occasional 5th guy. Basically, we just pushed their **** in man-to-man. They had no answer for our quickness up front and we tackled well. **** could have been worse than it was.

The defensive staff must have been salivating watching film. I’m no expert on film watching but it seems for the most part we were vanilla. Some exotics here and there but the Dline took care of business. The biggest difference was our speed, not saying the irish don’t have it but we seemed to have it everywhere!

Manny Diaz is a mad man. Go look at Bandy's pick 6 play.. Amari Carter was at DT I kid you not.

Yeah, it's interesting with Amari, if Im not mistaken he was lined up there sometimes as part of the 'spy package'' on the QB(which I assume was really for Winbush)...

Biltmore, another thing that stood out was how many times McIntosh from his DT spot actually chased down running plays that went outside. That's rare stuff...

This. And he caught RBs from behind when they were off tackle away from him.

We talk about our speed, but we arent that fast yet. Not compared to what we will be in 2 years. But we are probably as fast or faster at DL than we ever have been, with McIntosh, Thomas, Joe Jax, Harris, Garvin. Norton is quick and he ain't even mentioned because of the guys just named. That speed ruins slow developing run plays and horizontal plays generally. Kelly really underestimated this and botched his game plan badly.

Most amazing thing was just how slow we made ND look. All that talk about how big and fast Wimbush and Adams are and they looked like they were running in slow motion against our defense.

Either ND was incredibly slow - or we were the fastest we've been in over a decade.

I think it was likely a combination of both. The crowd had our boys on 4 quarters of adrenaline. That alone probably makes a 4.4 guy run more like 4.3.

it reminded of our old games back against Neb and Oklahoma, really good running teams that if you got ahead of them and made them one-handed, their lack of speed really got exposed. At 14-0 the game was basically over

Zach actually had a good game too....

Even I could admit that. McCloud was playing way faster then he has all year. He is still not tackling as well as I hope but at least he is moving and thinking quickly now. The way we asked our LB to play LB the last 2 games is how they should ALWAYS play/teach LB. Also, DE were actually containing the edge. We played with aggression and discipline and we shut the run game down vs ND and VT. We need to teach the way we did things the last 2 weeks EVERY WEEK. They played with GREAT basic fundamental. We play like that the rest of the year and I don't think we give up a TD if not points the rest of the regular season.

The two big plays they succeded were both blitzes where we didnt get there.....one on the screen to the tight end and the other the TD. I assume VIrginia is gonna try and do the same thing North Carolina did and what Notre Dame did trying to get their bigger Tight ends one on one with Malek Young and throw a jump ball

We're back to being a team that can't be beaten horizontally. You aren't going to get much going with slow developing run plays to the sideline.

A smart game planner would've looked at what FSU did in the run game and attempted to emulate that game plan.

ND had watched us play Cover 1 so many times they didn't know if we were coming or going. The Bandy pick is a perfect example of a terrible assumption by the QB.

As we get more and more top notch players now, we'll see a lot of blending of man and zone. That's a **** nightmare for college QBs who face a relentless DL. As I've said elsewhere, we still have some holes, but we also have some turbo left.

Our speed is because our defense is reacting and not waiting to analyze by thinking too much...using their instincts. This is what we have been waiting for, players that react quickly
