Re-watched the game last night, one thing caught my eye..

ND had watched us play Cover 1 so many times they didn't know if we were coming or going. The Bandy pick is a perfect example of a terrible assumption by the QB.

As we get more and more top notch players now, we'll see a lot of blending of man and zone. That's a **** nightmare for college QBs who face a relentless DL. As I've said elsewhere, we still have some holes, but we also have some turbo left.

Lu, the way I see this is that our ceiling is still a ways off. This game was most complete of the year but not the best we can have. No special teams scores or blocks or big runs -- that can get better. I don't mean it as criticism; I am excited as **** that we still have a ton of upside. Bama is a good as it is going to be -- a still target. We are growing and improving. Scary thought. huh.

Hurricane vision is none other than the greats CMR and Manny Diaz posting together under that name. No way any other savage can do that kind of work

You mean letting players do what they were born to do is better than coaching them up to be useless reactionary cheeseburgers?

The thing I love and I have been saying it since Duke, everyone is contributing. Every game we have a couple of guys that just rise up and shine but it is still complimentary to to what everyone is doing. We are deep, the boys love playing and competing. Everyone gets a piece of the action, so everyone keeps fighting their *** off. Look at Cager, haven't heard a thing from him in weeks, just makes a ridiculous catch. I can watch this team play all day long. So many things you can say about everyone but I just wanna say, Travis Homer!!!! He is flat awesome

Couple things on that play:

Carter is a hit man, but look how fast he ran with Bandy. Step for step.

Bandy was tripping me out running that close to the sideline. He has no conscience. If there was a Cane that reminds you of the glory years, this one comes right to the top.

On that Bandy P6, we had all 6 underneath zones covered with Carter dropping...anybody could've gotten an INT on that play, good timing on the call though.

We played mostly Cover 2 and rushed 4 with an occasional 5th guy. Basically, we just pushed their **** in man-to-man. They had no answer for our quickness up front and we tackled well. **** could have been worse than it was.

You are exactly right. 4-2-5 package mostly. I thought we'd have to go the other way and load the box with 6 or 7 guys to stop their incredible rushing attack.

**** was not needed at all. Simple cover 2 with 4 horses upfront mauling their linemen and 2 LBs watching the gaps.

Amazing job by the D.

Carter looks like he has a little Sean Taylor in him to me. Not a comparison, but a pretty **** athletic and instinctual safety who will hot you in the teeth. A kid who can play near the LOS or the deep ball. You can argue that your safetys are the two most important positions in your defense.

I agree man, he’s a legend.

In all seriousness, his posts were really pivotal in how I saw this team early on. I get way too caught up in the game and don’t really do re-watches or any of that stuff.

His breakdowns were proving that we were doing well, but we had SO MUCH room to grow and we were SO CLOSE.

Its come to fruition.

and Im sure Hurricane Vision will touch on this in-depth....

But I saw this one blitz package that was somewhat like the Amari Carter sack vs Vatech. It was one where both Redwine and Bandy came off the same side on a 3rd and 6th as Ian Book came into the game. Joe Jackson actually slide into more of an inside gap before the snap and those two(who were lined up on his side) ran into the backfield(IIRC, Redwine actually looped inside) and Bandy got pressure and flushed out Book who was able to throw for a first down.

I haven't seen a lot of blitz's where two DB's come off the same side. Yeah, Diaz has some exotic stuff. We came with Bandy a few times this game off the edge. It's clear he's going to be a Swiss army knife defensively

Overall, this game I didn't see any of the delayed blitzes that many on the board hated. Diaz was really on top of it this game, his guys were really well prepared and the overall intensity they displayed was incredible. Even on the lone TD drive, Miami was hitting the QB, getting sacks.

The tactic you're talking about has elements of the Bears 46 Defense

You know that ****'s really got to sting...when the Irish coaches are dissecting the film and realize that their highly touted running game got completely ****ed by a 6 man box all night long.

Very well said. I'm no Xs and Os guy, so it's awesome to read from someone who is. Let's me appreciate a whole new level. Thanks HV!

Thank you for what you do. It’s going to lead you places IMO.

Also rewatched the first half so far and very often Norton stood up and relatively easily got past their all world LG. Their LT and LG are nice players but waay overhyped

Either ND was incredibly slow - or we were the fastest we've been in over a decade.

I think it was likely a combination of both. The crowd had our boys on 4 quarters of adrenaline. That alone probably makes a 4.4 guy run more like 4.3.

I believe it was also part of knowing what to do that help you know what to expect. Thanks to the coaching staff and ED REED, for having us super ready to react. That's why we seemed faster. The amazing crowd was just jet fuel to top it off.
