rb rotation with lyle

I'll try to chart the FSU game before bed tonight, not doing the rest though lol. Lyle's best run against FSU was when we motioned the trips out pretty wide for us on the short side of the field, and just blocked the run with our 5 OL (which I think is pretty rare for us). I think he's much better suited running out out spread than condensed.

@rsa coral gables should I consider it "spread" if 1 TE is inline or motioning but the rest of the receivers aren't clustered close to the line? Or should "spread" be only if we run with our 5OL blocking and no TE?
Do both

What are we talking about here? They committed numbers to the run game, we threw the ball over their heads. The running game is going to be fine
fletcher had found a good rhythm in wins over usf and florida ... now we introduce (reintroduce) a guy to the mix and it disturbs the rhythm ... personally i think if it was fletcher and brown we would have had better rushing numbers as fletcher and the oline had found a nice rhythm ... that being said, you gotta get fletcher back in the groove ... stanford probably would be the best spot, but i understand you gotta play the kid

happy to have him back ... but it sorta messed up the vibe ... anybody else got that feeling? ... would have love to see more fletcher ... feeding three backs is gonna be a challenge

fletcher 12 for 40
brown 6 for 19
lyle 7 for 18
Let’s start this conversation with honest stats

Fletcher 12 for 40 (3.3 YPC)
CharMar Brown 8 for 19 (2.4 YPC)
Jordan Lyle 7 for 18 (2.6 YPC)

In his first game back, Lyle was rusty but still performed as well as the other RBs. If Lyle stays healthy, he will show us why the coaches made him RB1 to start the season before he got hurt. Every high level team has a big play threat at RB. We need a HR threat in the backfield, and Lyle is it.

We will need them all by the time we play game #15

We threw for 5 touchdowns in 3 qtrs. Think we’ll be ok

no one is suggesting what don't need lyle ... i AM suggesting his playing in the game vs fsu killed some of the rhythm of mark fletcher coming off back to back 100 yard games ... it's a tough spot, but fletcher was playing some of the best ball of his career

We punted all four drive Lyle got carries on. Think that's what driving this narrative.

Lyle being in on those drives was coincidental to us punting. On 3/4 drives we committed offensive penalties that got us behind the sticks.

How many offensive penalties did we commit on our 4 scoring drives? Zero. EDIT: We commited 1, Bell false start on our 3rd scoring drive

fair points ...

Yeah to be clear I’m not saying we shouldn’t

But like I know **** all about this stuff just like the rest of you. So if the coaches know less than us why are they considered the top of the food chain?

I’m fine with the tight sets. Those two ********(literally) know more about run blocking than everyone on this forum times 10. Do I like that we force the run when we could play action? No.

Second, it isn’t just about the formations and plays. They are elite teachers which gets the absolute most out of the talent. It is something this u has lacked for 25 years. I’ll trust the two to teach and Dawson to leverage the insane talent with better play calls moving forward.

Love that we have added wrinkles with counters, outside zone, T formation, I formation, etc. just more for teams to prepare for.

Lastly, they have nailed a larger percentage of their evals and now that we are winning that percentage increases due to not having to take flyers.

As for the rotation, fletcher would likely give up every carry to win it all for the U. Lyle has the highest ceiling. Pringle will even get snaps in the back 6 games. No need to worry about who because the issue isn’t who but Dawson getting to conservative which I don’t think will be an issue until the CFP or acccg.

It felt like they were force feeding Lyle for the **** of it. Probably trying to get him some live reps. But I’m not worried. Having Lyle back is great news. He has something the other two don’t. And Mario has been pretty good at playing the hot hand at RB since he’s been here. I think this situation where he didn’t, is a one off.

We have like 9 straight games.. They're going to get beat up..... lots of carries.. I'd even rest one on Cuse
Obviously never played sports. So if all 3 are 100% healthy you think one should just sit out a game and not play? Against a team that best us last year? This doesn’t make sense on so many levels. 1st. Not one of those kids who is a competitor is just not gonna want to play. You don’t understand how this works. 2nd. Mario is gonna sit a kid who can help us against a team that beat us last year. Where tf do u guys come up with this stuff?

If we lose because we sit 1 player other than Beck against Cuse or Stanford we got bigger problems...

Don’t ever argue with this guy about running backs lol
IMO - as Lyle gets more meaningful carries it will become clear he's just an average/solid RB.

So the discussion on how we use him/how much we use him will slowly become kind of irrelevant.

Last year Martinez & Fletcher were big enough to handle workhorse carries, so splitting the carries between the 2 of them was enough. A 3rd RB wasn't needed. IMO it's the same with Fletcher & Brown this year. If a 3rd RB could add something, great. But if he doesn't, he's not needed.

I 100% get why people are excited for Lyle. But right now the "thought" of Lyle > the "reality" of Lyle.

i'm not even suggesting lyle is average ... i'm advocating for fletcher ... he was coming off two really good performances with a lot of momentum and confidence
