Miami had one of the most efficient running games in the country last year, and the team is hoping for a repeat in 2025. RB coach Matt Merritt met with reporters to discuss the progress of his group:

On the first day in full pads: It's a step in the right direction. There’s still a lot of growth to be done. Just consistency in our pass pro and our leverage and even how we finish runs, being a little bit more decisive.

For our group, once you put shoulder pads on, it's like it's full...

I am expecting him to make a big leap in year two.
Like worst case scenario Travis Homer leap from Frosh to Soph year comp. Ceiling is much higher than that though.

No doubt, Hellcat coming in at 172 last Spring to now, is a lot more impressive. This is why I have been most interested in his off season at RB.

Mark Fletcher is going to be the guy this year.

Weird stuff is going on with the RB weights this offseason.

But if CWH has gone to 200 & Lyle to 205, they've both moved out of being "small" RB's to a nice size for a college RB. Hopefully they carry it well.

I haven't seen CWH up close (he looks bigger from afar), but Lyle is definitely a good-sized back. He's one of those guys who is more physically impressive in person. NFL-type dimensions.

Do they look a legit 6-0? That's part of the story.

Regardless of how they look, 6-0 200-205 is good for college, but it's really skinny by NFL standards.

If they're more like 5-10 200-205 - then that's more in the Travis Homer/Mark Walton range of size.

IMO we just need them big enough to break arm tackles, not move piles. They'll need to win with speed & elusiveness vs physicality.

Lyle is bigger than Homer and Walton from my personal interaction. Homer is the opposite of Lyle in that he looks smaller in person than on screen.

CWH has a pretty smallish frame but has put on weight.

I hope Fletcher will be really good for us. I just have my reservations of him ever being good and being more just average.

What do you think of him?

Talent wise - my thoughts are:

Mark Fletcher is a notch above Cam Harris, a notch below Travis Homer/Deejay Dallas.

Jordan Lyle is a bizarro cross between Cam Harris and Mark Walton.

Travis Homer was such a good college RB.

Back to back just south of 1,000 yard seasons with a 6.0 average.

What I’ve been thinking. I think Fletcher can take a major jump this year, healthy, and participating in a full offseason. My style comp, Chris Brown (Digging in the crates):

Different era of football for sure and 2 different styles of offense but they compare pretty favorably.

Fletcher - 6’2” 225
Brown - 6’3” 220

Sophomore Stats
Fletcher - 112 carries, 607 yards, 5.4 YPC, 9 TD
Brown - 190 carries, 946 yards, 5.0 YPC, 16 TD (6 in 1 game 👀)

Junior Stats
Brown - 303 carries, 1841 yards, 6.1 YPC, 19 TD

With the same usage (and healthy) we’re at around a 1,026 yard, 15 touchdown season for Fletcher last season. With a comparable jump to his junior season: adding a yard per carry, around 35% of the carries (little less than Martinez last season) does 1100 yards on ~ 160 carries and 13/14 touchdowns seem lofty for next season?
