Randy Melvin

This guy could be a great or terrible DL coach. I have no idea. Whatever he is though, it won't matter due to Golden's philosophy and style of play.

You guys still circle jerking over assistant corches huh?

They have done a great job bamboozling this fan base. We are discombobulated to say the least.

Al Golden Hiring Checklist:

- Temple Guy
-South Florida High school guy
-ex cane whos never coached college football

at least he saves the university money on headhunters

Directly from the school's release, presented with no further comment:

Melvin arrives at Miami after he spent the 2014 season at FIU serving on head coach Ron Turner’s staff as the defensive line coach. Under Melvin guidance, the Panthers featured the No. 3 ranked defense in Conference USA.

Melvin joins Golden’s coaching staff for the second in his career as the two spent the 2009 season together at Temple. During his 2009 stint with the Owls, Temple ranked No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference against the run, limiting opponents to just 107.6 yards per game. During his time with Temple, Melvin helped tutor currently New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson.

Leave it to the scumbags at UM to mischaracterize his accomplishments so blatantly. Since when is the defense "under the guidance" of the DL coach? Fcking scummy pieces of ****.

We're still hurting from the $50,000 we spent on an adviser to find Randy Shannon. Really pinching pennies....
Al Golden Hiring Checklist:

- Temple Guy
-South Florida High school guy

Let's see:

-The guy has been fired from several different positions after short periods of time
-He's coached a million different places
-Likely was considered for this position because Golden knew him from Golden's illustrious tenure at Temple, where this guy coached the greatest defensive lineman in the history of the game, Muhammed Wilkerson
The job we hired him away from was FIU, one of the biggest dumpster fires in all of the NCAA
-Our defensive line has grossly underperformed during Golden's time here, largely because of the scheme, but even with the terrible scheme, our guys have clearly not played well, and could really use a good defensive line coach

Oh yeah, and nothing our coach has done in his four years here, from coaching decisions, game strategy, recruiting, etc, has proven to be successful.

So, yeah, I think I'm going to assume that this is a bad hire, that we have again chosen to stick with what we know rather than go after something different, and that this is likely to make no difference in the results on the field with our current head coach and defensive coordinator.

Man, that bolded part is the only thing that gives me hope..

Contrary to most of this thread, this is a good hire. The guy knows how to coach DL and has learned from some very good coaches. A lot of coaches moves around, it's not unusual. Last year everyone fell in love with the guy that is the DC at ND, Brian Van Gorder. Have you ever looked at his resume 1 -2 years tops at most locations. He is a good technical coach and we should see some improvement on the DL.

Randy Melvin will be the University of Miami's new defensive line coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Melvin, who held the same position at Florida International University in 2014, has 30 years of coaching experience between the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He reunites with head coach Al Golden, who put him on Temple's staff in 2009.

"Randy Melvin brings tremendous energy, toughness and a wealth of experience to our football program," Golden said in a statement. "I have no doubt that his expertise and ability to connect and mentor young people will allow our student-athletes to become the best they can be. With 32 years in the business, Randy knows what it takes to be successful at both the collegiate and professional levels. Perhaps his greatest attribute as a coach and mentor is his ability to consistently mold student-athletes into great men both on and off the field. His knowledge, commitment and passion for the game are unquestioned and I'm thrilled to have him back on staff."

Before joining the Panthers, Melvin spent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012-13. In 2011, he was in the Canadian Football League with the British Columbia Lions. Also on his resume include stops with Eastern Illinois (1988-94), Wyoming (1995-96), Purdue (1997-99), the New England Patriots (2000-02), Rutgers (2002-04, 2010) and the Cleveland Browns (2005-08), Melvin replaces Jethro Franklin, who took the defensive line job with the Oakland Raiders. On Monday, Miami hired Kevin Beard as the new wide receivers coach with Brennan Carroll departing for the Seattle Seahawks.

"Coaching at the University of Miami has always been a dream destination of mine," Melvin said in a statement. "I can't thank Coach Golden enough for this opportunity. The pieces are absolutely in place for the Hurricanes to have a memorable season in 2015, and I can't wait to get to work with our student-athletes."

Some players, including redshirt freshman Demetrius Jackson, had been campaigning for graduate assistant Kareem Brown's promotion. Brown played for the Hurricanes from 2002-05 before five years in the NFL with three teams. In 2012, he was a defensive-line assistant at FIU.

Not good at recruiting but can teach the game pretty well. Imo we needed a hire like this but you couldn't go wrong with Kevin Patrick as he is a ️Cane and excellent coach as well as excellent recruiter.

Am I the only person who thinks its weird he's been a DL coach for 1033484 years, but never moved on to a Defensive Coordinator position? Even at the collegiate level? Golden does it again. I'm convinced Golden is sabotaging The U.
