Random observations

Run blocking is not as good as it needs to be. Our WRs played bad today. Like many have said, Brown is not as advertised. That's two games in a row he looks just average or below average. Our run defense especially up the middle wasn't that great. Our secondary looks thin.

Overall not very impressed by the day. We looked much better against Florida.

The team did not look like they were locked in and focused and I don't think they had a great week of prep. I think they were feeling themselves too much after the Florida win and showed up today without focus.

First five plays of the game
Defense - Incompletion, 1-yd gain, interception
Offense - 11-yd run, 17-yd pass for TD

Second set of series
Defense - 1 first down before punting
Offense - 99 yard TD drive

You guys are a tough crowd to be talking about not coming in focused. They did exactly what I wanted to see which was to dominate early and then experiment with a lot of young players.

At worst, I would accept that they might have lost focus after a very good start but I would blame that more on the rotation than focus. The 2nd and 3rd teams are never going to be as good as the 1st.

At the end of the day, we posted a score that shows dominance and we still have plenty of talking points to take back to the film room while getting very valuable experience for depth. Meanwhile, it does not seem like there were any injuries. It was everything you want these kinds of games to be.

Oh good lord, this is the new Mopery thread. We can't mope about losing, so let's mope about "complacency" and "third stringers not looking like our first stringers".

This is why we have a couple of early season games, the coaches can let the backups play and make some mistakes. Either the players will have some pride and fix their mistakes or they will eventually transfer elsewhere. I'm fine with either one, we have 105 scholarships to award.

Nobody is saying that mistakes are acceptable, but just that if the players learn and improve from their mistakes, then the purpose has been served.

Just as there was improvement from the first half to the second half of the FAMU game, let's also see how things go against Balls State.

But it's great to see that the Mopers haven't disappeared, they are just complaining about much more trivial stuff. We can take that as a sign of improvement, I guess.
We ran for over 230 yards on well over 6 YPC and you have a lot of people complaining about the run game. It's lunacy.

One person said early in the game that it “took the shine off of the Florida game”

That’s the type of clueless miserable ******** we deal with here sometimes
Like yeah I thought we looked sloppy first half but I also have the cognitive function to see that they’re rotating players early on and I told myself if they tighten up after halftime I’ll be more than happy which they did. No injuries, players got valuable reps idk what more you want.

My only concern is just getting Markel bell and that left side ready while the starters rest for however long

Nothing can, nothing will, and nothing should EVER "take the shine off of the Florida game".

Whoever said that should be punched in the face. Hard.

For those ragging on Ray Ray, go watch the punt return he just about broke. He should have fair caught the ball to be honest but, he doesn’t and makes the first guy miss him in the phone booth before making a decent return.

I saw speed and elusiveness there. He’s never going to be a guy that breaks tackles like Terrell Owens. He doesn’t have the frame of a Tyreke Hill either where he’s built like a mini brick 💩house. He’s a complimentary situational player that you get in space and watch him go.

Reading comments on here is insane. It seems like some of you thought we were getting Jerry Rice with Ray Ray. Does nobody remember him catching a screen last year and him getting hit and knocked sideways for about 5 yards?
he was a high 4 star guy we stole from clemson, was sold as a straight stud. from that to a "complimentary situational player" is a pretty big drop off...

Yeah it was just kind of all confirming what we knew as fans. Or should know.

Depth isn’t quite at a championship level. But you can see with the 2023 and 2024 classes that’s changing fast

But as far as our starters, especially on offense…we are a scary football team

respectfully, watch the first few norfolk drives and tell me if the running game was **** good

that being said i agree with alot of what you said otherwise

The first two Norfolk drives they ran 12 times for 148 yards.

FAMU made some adjustments over the next 3+ quarters.
The rest of the way NSU ran 31 times for a total of 79 yards.
2.5 yards per.

Too many penalties after a fairly clean game last week

Mario’s talk about discipline has never actually materialized on the field yet

Last week I thought we were headed in the right direction

I’ll chalk it up to a bunch of people not used to playing but I didn’t like it
do you think the freshman WR like Trader and Carr will pass sam brown on the depth chart? What are your thoughts?

Some of my initial observations

1. Run game needs more variety. I know our identity for running the ball is steeped in power run, but that doesn’t mean we can’t run more zone runs with a couple counters and hb toss mixed in.

2. Offensive line depth is concerning. Such a drop off when starters came out. If someone gets hurt, there will be drop off, even with the cross training they do. We’ve seen an injury on dline and we kept cooking.

3. Does Robbie Washington have any path to getting on the field, even if by position change?

4. People reading too much into Poff playing over Emory. Poff needed game action to show something. With Nickel coming next year, not sure if Poff could be one and done with us. He might do a 2nd transfer for starter playing time. He def can play at lower P4/G5 range, but opportunities going to be few and far.

I think Sam is crazy talented and he will step it up. Just having an odd start

The young guys are gonna be on his heels which I think will make him step up. Big fan of his potential
Thanks. I like your insight. Some on CIS are saying things all over place about brown so I think the answer is closer to what you said.

i don't want to seem like i'm bashing our guys ... but i don't see it on ray ray either ... expected more explosion and for him to break more tackles ...
Yea I'm hoping because that slot wr spot is wide open next year he needs to show up soon so he can be trusted in that position

Bottom line is this isn't quite a miami hurricanes national championship roster quite yet especially in terms of depth, but we are getting there. We are elite at QB, RB, have a very good DL, and our starting unit on OL is good. We have come a long ways from year 2 to year 3 under mario. We can still run the table in season this year but not sure how far we can make it in playoff depends on our seed and match ups.

Also it helps we have an elite DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR who can make our talent look even better than it is and mask some of our deficiencies. Guidry is great.

That was me and what I was trying to convey was that the mediocre play was bringing us back down to earth. We clearly lost focus and energy for a while.

I am 100% positive that you and I don’t have any common ground to discuss

Have a blessed Sunday
