"Demetrius has done some good things,” defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio said this offseason. “He’s very talented, has gained about 25 pounds since he got here. He’s strong at the point of attack."

Seriously they will never learn or adjust. Let's pack weight on everyone and then the NFL will slim them down because they are retarded and obviously don't get it that your DE's are supposed to be slow, fat, patty cake playing twats.

Jesus these guys drive me up a **** wall.

I do think Jackson needed some weight but I agree with the overall point.

Its going to be criminal the way we handle of "DEs/Rush Ends" this year. We have 4 talented traditional DEs in Thomas, AQM, Jackson, Harris (who I think is the least talented). We are going to have Thomas engaging OL, playing patty cake on the strong side and Harris playing rush end with AQM and Jackson spending most their time on the bench.

ONLY 25 lbs?!

DJ needed it, but yeah we're the NFL weight loss poster child as the before picture

I don't like the Golden/D'Nofrio conviction that gaining weight is the most important way that players can get better.

Not THE U's DNA. The fact that someone would come to Miami where domination of college football through speed was a proven fact and focus so hard on weight gain is enough fire him. Granted of defenses had been getting gashed up the middle for years before Al, but that was more about not having the Miami caliber DT our 4-3 needs and a decrease level of coaching skills.

Hopefully they don't put him on the Chickillo diet. Chickillo was a 5-star right behind Clowney on Scout years ago - rated one of the top 5 DEs in the country....He's probably going to do well in the pros now that he can use his speed again...

What the f*ck is up with this staff's obsession about bringing up players' weights? They do realize the goal is to win football games, not creating future Biggest Loser contestants, right?

McCord too.

I always felt this staff put too much emphasis on size... I personally believe that this is the slowest team since the 70's... However, that's mostly to do with who this staff recruits... They aren't making the players slow, they just recruit slow players... That being said, some players need to add weight and Jackson is one of those players... Now the photo that was posted on this board a few months ago seemed like he put on bad weight to me but I'm willing to wait until practices are underway. Jackson had to get to about 250... So 30 pounds won't be too bad...

I agree with the sentiment here, however...

I can't help but remember that, years ago (under Randy, at least), so many people were constantly *****ing about our players being so small. It was a running theme for a long time. People were always saying 'look at the SEC's players, or players on almost any other team for that matter...they look HUGE compared to us! We're so SMALL it's ridiculous!!"

I think it's a good weight versus bad weight issue, really. But I'm just sayin'. Be careful what you wish for.

Let's not complain for the sake of complaining. U guys can't tell me that u look at highschool athletes and think their size is nfl ready, college is where that transition is made. As long as it's not excessive it is necessary

I go back and forth on this topic honestly. I look at Bama's guys and they look massive and are obviously putting on weight and muscle. Seems to work out for them. But I do want the edge guys to have that speed. Ideally they'd be like Sapp and be big and have that get off the ball speed, but few are like that. I do think he needed some weight though, he was super skinny.

yeah but it's good weight you need to put on. not all of our goods are gaining lean muscle. look at a picture of jackson and try to tell me he doesn't looks doughy and soft. we need lean muscle.

We've got coaches from the Northeast, who have Midwestern football values. They'd work well at a mid-major and with the 2nd tier B1G teams.

Illinois and/or Indiana should have an opening after this season ...

I'm hopeful we do well enough for a move to one of those schools to be justified ...

i feel like our offensive players look stronger and fast. On DL, i def think perryman and chick looked bloated. However, some guys have been forced to lose weight. others looked lean so i dont get what they do as a whole. I mean Ambrister put on weight and got faster and stronger so who knows. alot of us looking slow also has to do with the scheme they run
