Quick thought on the Stanford victory...

Ok, a win is a win. Forget the score, Stanford was never going to win this game. Andrew Luck was on the sideline, but he wasn't walking through that door, neither was Toby Gerhart or Richard Sherman

But I hope Mario Cristobal realizes that when you slow the pace against inferior foes, you actually open the window to get upset. When you have the superior team, you want MORE plays, not less. That didn't happen tonight, but that's not the point.

Sometimes it's not the result but the process. Instead of 'establishing the run', how bout 'establishing points' and allow your team to play from ahead? And then run the ball late and let your pass rushers pin their ears back.

Don't listen to me, I'm just a crouching Tiger who is a fan. But that was the base philosophy of Bill Walsh every gameAs for the offense, my view is that if you run more spread sets(clear up some of the congestion in the box) and throw more on early downs, you can see a more free-flowing unit.It's good to see this team dominate the second half and pull away late. I hope that it carries over into Dallas (I'll be there) vs SMU.

Not having a lead in this game until the 3rd was a ******* fail. I don't care what the outcome was.

the root of our problems is slamming the ball inside 98% of the run plays. U can make big plays in the run if you keep the defense off guard. Its not hard to figure whats coming with us. Just stop this, and u stop them. Thats all the gameplan was from UL.

The thing is though, since he left FIU with maybe two years of exceptions almost every game, his team, whether at Alabama Oregon or Miami had the most talented team by far on paper

Ehhh… you can literally say this about every team in every game. We had at least three drive ending drops in the first half too. If our guys caught every pass, we we likely score more points. But it’s football and players drop passes and make mistakes. If you have to play perfect to win, you’re never going to win a game.

The had 72 yards the rest of the game.

I know they suck but that defensive performance was incredibly exactly as you should do against one of the worst teams in college football

Fair enough. But that’s to be expected from a ****** team like Stanford. Luckily our secondary held onto those picks, last week they would have swung the game in our favor.

Last year’s offense is an outlier when you look at Mario’s history.

His offenses most years rank very high in down to down success rate. But low in the explosive play rate.

That’s exactly what we’re seeing this year, except the running play success rate isn’t as great.
 
A win is a win but the same flaws keep popping up. Either starting slow or finishing slow. The run game is way too obvious in which teams will be shooting the gap or if our center is beat our run game will be inconsistent. If no run game then Beck who is a game manager is forced to throw and mistakes can happen. Quick passes will neutralize our strength on defense which if Stanford’s qb was good at all there were plays to be made. Teams with better talent and coaching will exploit this team because we are too stubborn to adjust.

Maybe Mario and Dawson lack confidence in Beck which is why we haven't cut loose and really tried to open the offense more.

I dont disagree. I just can't understand why our coaches wont adjust.

the coaching staff doesnt care. They believe their plan is THE plan. What they fail to grasp or refuse to acknowledge is just a few changes will go a LONG way..just show some flexibility

It has been that way for all 4 seasons. They run their plan whether we score or don’t, win or lose. Didn’t matter at 5-7, 7-6, 10-3 and 6-1.

Builds culture or some bull****
