DMoney,

You had great posts during training camp about the team. What do you make of Kaaya's in game struggles and Mark Richt's play-calling. Do you feel we're just playing vanilla and you expect a lot more when we get into our October stretch?

nice question

I'm not DMoney but from what I've read from him and from LuCane Kaaya has looked very sharp in practice. And indeed he looked good vs. FAMU as well. I think it was just a bad game that got away from him a little bit until the 2nd half.

I do think we've only seen maybe 20-30% of the total playbook - that said I've already seen some plays that we can build on going forward. In other words, don't expect the other 80% of the playbook to be brand new formations and sub packages and trick plays...

Example: last Saturday when we went to the WR screen/inside zone RPO I noticed Kaaya performing a zone-read fake on most handoffs. He never kept it, but if he had there was at least 10 yards of open green in front of him every time. No, Kaaya's not Deshaun Watson, but he can pick up an easy 8 yards and slide as well as anyone - just enough to give a defense one more thing to think about after they've committed to the RB... (Richt also did this with Murray and Stafford.)

Another example: Richt has run the playaction rollout a few times already with the TE (usually Herndon) an easy 5 yards downfield for a pitch and catch. He can run a number of plays off of that rollout - WRs at different levels, for example. Or in a 2 RB set he can leak a RB out on the bootleg as well.

So I think we'll see a lot more VARIATION on what we've already seen, if that makes sense. For now, I'm going to chalk Saturday up to a good QB having a bad night. We'll know more this Saturday.

thanks plus 1

I thought it was interesting that they just restricted media access a lot more. Only allowing for phones and cameras during stretches. Why now after two games? It may be because the full gameplans are going to start being used

Honestly feel we are running a super watered down offense....

Having said that he looked like garbage against FAU and as much as I like the kid it seemed he was the only one on the team that wasnt fully dialed into ready to go

I think it was a combination of Kaaya being off, and the OTs struggling.

Darling got pwned multiple times. Sunny had a few really bad plays, including our first offensive snap when he got pushed back into Kaaya's lap and it ruined the timing of play.

Navaughn Donaldson can't get here soon enough.

Kaaya should not be pulling the ball to run.....now if he is pulling it to throw that would be ok......Kaaya is ssssllllllooooowwwww

my point is it doesn't matter how slow he is if he can run one time to empty grass for 8-10 yards. That's enough to give a defense something else to think about.

I think it's important to build Kayaa's confidence from the get go next game. Short "gimme" passes early on, somewhat like the second half last week. Then we can open it up, especially with play action if the running game keeps doing what it's doing. O-line needs to help out as well.

I thought he was fine against FAMU. He was off against FAU and his offensive line struggled.

My only real concern from the FAU game was the pass blocking. We struggled to block them last year and I was hoping to see improvement. I'm not really worried about Kaaya. I think he will make good decisions and throw the ball accurately.

I think its important to note that Kaaya and the WR's are all learning a new offensive system. Its the first time in their careers that they have to learn a real college level offense. (noting that James Coley's offense was sort of clueless).

I fully expect the offense to click more and more as the season progresses.

Is everyone certain Kaaya is the one struggling with the new offense, or could some other guys be busting assignments on plays occasionally that lead to pressures or a receiver not being where he's supposed to be?

Our OL totally **** the bed in pass protection. I don't see them getting much better in the near term.

They're just not very good players and the depth is attrocious. Gall my be the worst OL to get snaps since Pylon Pipho.

Everyone knows he isn't a threat to run so if he pulls it for even 4 or 5 yards that's a plus and gives defenses something to look at. Look at the film, he has soooo much open field.

I would go ahead and put Kaaya scrambling on film for them though...I definitely would've had him pull and run for 5 yards before sliding against FAMU or FAU just for film purposes and have the defense assign 1 person to Kaaya, thats 1 less defender to immediately pursue the RB against a better team that will destroy Kaaya

I just don't see any competent DC's accounting for Kaaya on the run whether he does it a couple times in games or not. We have too many offensive weapons for teams to be adjusting to Kaaya running. It's the equivalent of Shaq knocking down jumpers from the free throw line....just let him keep taking them.

Did the OL even allow a sack against FAU?

Stick to providing valuable insider info and leave the armchair analysis to the experts.

Completely missed the point.

Sometimes giving some easy throws gets the QB settled. I think getting the OL working together on some running plays, and having success, will seem to help them play better overall. Kaaya never looked comfortable, even when he had time. Seems like he was pressing, missing everything high. Just one of those games, and Richt would have called plays to get him out of his funk and back on track, but he didn't need to against FAU. Teams are getting tougher now, so he probably won't have that luxury.
