Qb update days before a starter is decided

Ya because so many teams have upperclassmen studs backing up their underclassmen.
Yeah, or maybe the “upperclassman” isn’t a stud in big boy football and you gladly show his *** the door. This isn’t OSU fandom talking - it’s what his own **** OC did after being with him for 2 years. He saw what he had in Tate and knew this MF wasn’t cut out to be a starter. Sorry, not buying this ****.

Then Urban Meyer stepped down. Martell says he was told toward the end of the season he would be better off finding another school. Shortly after former No. 1 overall recruit Justin Fields announced he was transferring to Ohio State, Martell told the world he would transfer himself.

"The good thing that happened was that I was told, so I wasn't in a bad situation. So that's the only thing I can say that was good about the situation is I wasn't lied to."

I can understand this perspective, but they had the chance to bring in Fields, who is maybe the best dual threat prospect since Cam. I mean, you can say they went that direction because they didn't believe in Tate--I don't think either of us know for certain, I sure dont--but from the outside it's just as likely that they were like "hey, sorry man, Justin Fields is just on another level, we can't pass him up, do what you have to do." I know it's probably smarter to be cynical in these situations, but I can see a scenario where they wanted to do right by Martell and themselves (knowing he'd inevitably transfer anyway and not wanting any potential divisiveness to come out of a fake competition)

I have no idea if it will be Williams or Martell. It won't be Perry I feel confident in that.

Tate.

The other two don't have enough command of the offense/position to negate Martell's dynamic running ability and intangibles.

Let's pick one and announce it publicly before UF. We need to give one of these 3 some confidence by announcing and give them all the reps between now and UF. Can't keep babying these guys or be scared if one transfers off. If one or two guys decide to transfer, then so be it and they weren't cut out to be a Miami Hurricane.
I’m sure despite having whole offseason, they hadn’t thought of this

Good points. Well said.

Let’s also not forget them at not only did Tate leave but the other backup quarterback transferred as well. They knew Days mind was made up

it was posted in another thread, but tate said in an ESPN article that he was told before the end of the season that he should find another school

OSU didn't want him because they just got the number 1 DT QB in the nation, they had no need for the number 2 4 star anymore.
Right. LMAO. Like you wouldn't want to have a really good backup in case of an injury. No. We don't want depth at QB. We'll just go with a freshman if #1 gets injured. Just silly.

And whose to say that Martell wouldn't win the job over Fields. No coach is going to tell the #2 QB in his class to leave unless there are some serious problems.

By that reasoning, Perry and Williams should have transferred as soon as Martell signed to come to Miami. After all, Martell was a superior QB to them coming out of high school (your logic).

The same logic not being applied equally. You guys are killing me.

Fields is a special dude. Take that fact and work backwards. Of course they want depth. But they can't force kids to stay. And, total guess here, but if they knew Tate was a competitive kid, and maybe that goes too far to being problematic (See QB1), then I don't think it's crazy to think they'd not want to have to deal with a ****ed off Martell knowing he's transfer anyway given Fields winning the job was fait accompli. Look, I don't know, but I think that's a reasonable theory.
