QB competition for 2018

I think Malik will be starting QB next year. And then after him a QB battle between perry, jarren, and Weldon. I like the depth at the position a lot.

Williams highlights video looks good, has accuracy but that is a highlight video... is his accuracy consistent. Also, the problem with Rosier is his slow release and throwing motion. This is why he had a high number of blocked/tipped passes. Our overall offense will benefit with a QB that disguises his pass throwing intensions.

Only 5 INTs on the year. And he played in a tough district.

I assume you're talking about Williams since Malik has 11 INTs in a so called weak coastal conference... if so I also can get some sleep.

One would think, with the position wide open to talents, as Napoleon would say, and the obvious success of the Richt tenure, big time talent would be fighting to get here.

Any half *** QB could walk in and start immediately, playing for ACC and playoff titles. Give me that Pitt third string clown that beat us, and we go 12-0 this year, and very likely 12-0 next year.

Christ. Why cant we get a QB?

Wait a minute Tonto... with all we've seen from Malik throughout the year, and with the bowl game left to play, I wouldn't be so sure about Malik starting next year. There is a practice field QB and then there's a game day QB... we've already seen the game day QB in action.
Malik plays like he has this year as the starter in 2018, and the offense is also anemic in 2018, there will be planes flying a fire Richt banner at HRS. The ball is in CMR hands.

Williams shows me nothing give me weldon and perry

I see a guy with a really nice release, accuracy, vision, and running ability. Not only running ability, but the smarts to use his running ability to fool teams into thinking he is running, then throwing... accurately. Call me crazy, but I think this guy is a perfect fit.

Idiots continue to blow smoke. 2 bad games by rosier and genius posters 100% positive that Rosier will be replaced at qb next year. Track record of these genius prognosticators usually baseless and wrong. This group of malcontents love to stir up controversy.

Hate to tell you this, but he had a **** of a lot more than 2 bad games. There's a reason our backup QBs never got any burn. It was because Rosier couldn't get a lead on crap teams.

I concur... Ray Charles could have seen that what saved our team this year was our defense. A 5-6 GT and a 6-6 FSU were games that we won by a miracle or luck (take your pick). I was climbing the walls or stands when we couldn't convert 3rd downs all year long. All our offensive woes were glaringly obvious against Pitt and especially with Clemson. I fvcken wish I could be optimistic with Malik.

I saw all that $h!t with Perry to, but He couldn't crack 40% during the QB battle. HS & College are 2 completely different games.

Very happy that Williams is on board.

The QB competition should be fierce from here on out during the Richt tenure.

Now lets get the kid with the winning Scrabble name from CT for the '19 class.

Cant have another default option at QB for 2018. No more faith in the false gold of true freshman heroes. If Perry isnt the obvious choice, light years better than Rosier, we are in trouble next year.

Why the **** did you start posting again?

Go back to the WEZ you miserable crybaby

True, but watching this kid's film I see him making plays that we run, that Rosier doesn't make. Perry, while very gifted, and CERTAINLY able to win the job, seems to rely on talent more than simply fitting into and running the system. Now, Perry CAN do that, but it takes time. It's why I didn't expect him to win the job right away. Bringing in Williams will push him big time. Now it's not just learning the system to pass the guys ahead of him, but working hard to fend off Williams. Competition is a wonderful thing.

Whomever wins the job next year will have to beat out even more quality and experience than last year, and that will lead to good things. I see Rosier as a quality backup, Shirreffs as a smart guy that can at least help tutor the young guys, Perry as a talented play maker, and Williams as simply a good fit for this O. Weldon is talented as well, and there's no telling how much he'll progress with coaching. I really like this crop of QBs, top to bottom. I just don't like Rosier as the starter going forward. He's just too limited, and it is costing us big time. Like him as a backup, but not as our best option moving forward.

I hope none of them transfer, because depth, age, smarts, experience, talent, it all plays a roll in refining everyone at the position.

Yeah, if Malik wins the job, I don't think it would say much for our backups. I guess it's not impossible that he would improve, but I just don't know how much of the inaccuracy and feel for the game you can fix at this point. As for Perry, it would have taken a lot for him to win the job this year...too much to ask of him, IMO, especially when you consider the timing of when he hit Greentree.

All I've seen of Perry is his highlight reel on Youtube. I have to say, I know most of that is against crappy high school defense, but the guy really has some moves running the ball. He has a sick spin move. Seems to deliver an accurate ball even on the run....would like to see some more zip on the ball and weight on his frame, but I'm sure our staff is working on that.

Anyone think it's possible Williams can win the starting job as a true freshman? He will be an EE so he'll get a leg up on the play book before spring practice. From what I read in the recruiting threads, the kid has unbelievable accuracy.

I'm sure the real competition will be between Perry, Rosier and Weldon. I doubt Sheriffs has a shot. Williams will be there, but I'd be shocked if he doesn't redshirt. If he doesn't, that means either he's amazing, or all the other guys suck.

I expect it to really come down to Perry/Weldon and Perry probably to win. I think Rosier either is content being a backup, which would be hard after starting, or he leaves. Someone mentioned he's graduating in spring, so he can play right away. I wouldn't be shocked if Malik is at a Sun Belt or C-USA school next year as a grad transfer.

I don't know who the QB will be next season. It is blatantly obvious that we aren't a playoff team with Rosier at the helm. So if that's the goal next year (should be), it can't be Rosier.

Sherrifs needs to go. Don’t want him taking any valuable reps from any of the other guys like Williams and perry

Rosier would make a good backup for us - if needed, I'd be fine with putting him in a series or two if our QB1 gets roughed up in a game. That's the ideal role for him. Whether he'll want to do that or not, who knows. He's run his course as a starter, though - defenses are getting way too comfortable, with his inability to hit anything downfield, making even the easier short passes more difficult to complete. If we start him next year, I see a 3-4 loss year as a best case scenario.
