Pruitt Out at Tennessee

Lol at all the older prior threads on Niedermeyer being an elite recruiter and wanting him here. He was fired for cause and magically got that star linebacker, Wright, etc., to that trashy program.

We’d be shut down if this guy was on our staff.

Been reading alot of stuff about this Tennessee mess... I really got sucked in once I started... Seems UT hired Michael Glazier, the attorney, before Thanksgiving... they knew that far out they had a real mess on their hands.. Glazier was brought in by UT to unite everyone involved around one clear account of who/how the infractions they knew about at that point occurred. Staff had already split into factions of those who "knew" and those who claimed "they didn't". As the process went on, more and more infractions came to light, further splintering the staff. By the first week in January, neither Fulmer or Pruitt or anyone on staff were being included in the ongoing investigation or conversations the Admin was having with Glazier and his team. The clear objective was to ascertain any proof regarding Pruitt’s knowledge of/and endorsement of Nieds and other coaches paying benefits to HS coaches, parents, and prospects, and in some instances doing so through the team.

"The original issue involved the recruitment of Mims, as reported. When that issue was reviewed, it was revealed that there were several common practices that were similar to what happened with Mims. The coaches who told the truth, just told the truth. In fairness to them, this was not run of the mill cheating. Nieds behaved like some unhinged pimp. Most of the coaches were uncomfortable with it. It was known about by competitive coaches, and players from other teams. It was a running joke."

It's been portrayed that Pruitt’s failure was epic, and began on day one. In the early days Pruitt treated AD staff, compliance and even professors like they served the team. Prior to Plowman, more than one person raised concerns that Pruitt and Nieds practices were too egregious and would be caught. Those concerns were ignored.

Much of this information was relayed by a Vol poster who has a direct connection through a long time neighbor who is on the athletics staff. He's credible enough that he is highly regarded by their board (like our Cribby, for example). He also says that word around is In the conference people perceive that Nieds and Pruitt created an “arms race” on player payment. He goes on to say that many other coaches know who else plays dirty. The money and power will not want a light shined on Georgia or Bama. Given that Georgia is where some paid players landed, it will be harder for them to hide. (Mims for example)

Tennessee players who entered the portal were all recruited by Neids.... all names were listed in report from Glazier investigation..

The $$$ available for the new HC is quite large.... supposedly the Admin and White are shooting for some big names with no baggage...
Scott Frost was involved in the White hire - seems the Chancellor (Plowman) knows him and trusts him... Between the Mannings, the Whites and David Cutcliffe (Duke) everyone is tightly connected who made the AD hire.

The search firm that was just announced is purely for the purpose of maintaining secrecy. There are murmurs that they have already identified their guy and negotiations are underway. There is some expectation the new HC will be announced in the next few days or within the week.

There is a contingent of boosters that is strongly connected to Fulmer and the Pruitt hire who were not included in any of the conversations of the last three weeks. A new contingent of boosters has provided the support for hiring White and giving him cover to make the hire without having to talk to boosters. Sounds like a new day is dawning for the Haslems in Tennesee

This entire situation is really revealing about the interworkimgs of “recruiting “. For me personally, this situation hits close to home because I’ve lived 120 miles from Knoxville for 37 years. I’ve had to endure listening to those dummies go on and on about that program.

Is this on their 247 board?

Them looking at Scott Frost, with them hiring his former AD, makes sense

But what about T2?
I’m sure he got that 50 piece nuggets bag.
I got 5 he gets ruled ineligible

I really thought Brent Shaeffer was going to be Lamar Jackson. His downfall was the start of that programs downfall.

I just read Feldman’s article on The Athletic about the Tennessee debacle & it was a complete disaster.

As far as names in the coaching search, Gus Malzahn, Josh Heupel, Scott Frost, Clemson OC Tony Elliott, Sony Dykes & PJ Fleck are most of the top guys they’re looking after.

Apparently one of the big time boosters that has influence on the hire told the rest of the trustee group, “**** no” when Hugh Freeze was brought up lol.

Yup. The instant I saw Danny White got that job last week I said for sure Frost will end up the coach there at some point.
I’d be shocked if they really hired Frost, I think they’re vetting him because of the close Danny White connection but the boosters who have the most influence more than likely would want a more sure thing than someone like Frost.

I will say, if Frost is the guy it means the money men at Tenn gave Danny White full autonomy over the hire, which I highly doubt happens.

I think Josh Heupel is a sleeper pick, he’s had very good success as a new HC in his first 3 years at UCF as an innovative offensive minded coach, plus his time at Oklahoma & Mizzou gives him legit history & experience at P5 programs. The question would be how well does he invigorate the Boosters to rally around him, he wouldn’t be the exciting flashy hire the Boosters & fans would want, but bringing his offensive system to the SEC would make him a coach in the same vein as Kiffin as a guy that will make all the Defensive gurus in the SEC sweat bullets if he ever finds a QB.

Gus Malzahn would probably be the safest hire, you know exactly what you get with him & despite AU pulling the trigger on him, he was 68-35 with a 66% winning percentage, he really wasn't that bad but AU is plagued with being in the SEC west living in Bama’s & LSU’s shadow, so they canned him without realizing that they’ll never be better than Bama until Saban retires lol.

I think Tony Elliott would probably be the best hire in terms of recruiting, but no way in **** would Tenn ever hire a Black HC lol.

I doubt PJ Fleck would leave Minnesota after he just signed an extension 2 years ago & big pay raise making $4.7 mill a year with a $10million dollar buyout, plus he’s a Midwest guy who fits perfect at Minnesota, I don’t think he’d be a fit personality wise at a good ol’ boy program like Tennessee.

Living in UTK country, what I’m hearing is most fans seemed underwhelmed by the White hire mostly I think because they don’t know much about him. As far as a HC, not many names mentioned other than Malzahn. They seem to be in wait and see mode.

How would you handicap the possible candidates. Like give a percentage probability to each one. I’m trying to, and I keep thinking that right now Heupel has to be the leading candidate, no? With Malzahn second, and 0.0 chance for Elliott. I hate to bring up race, you know that, but you and I both know that blue blood SEC programs don’t hire black coaches, and I doubt it happens in our lifetimes. I’ll be in the ground before Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Florida, or Alabama, ever hire a black coach, no matter how qualified.

Also there’s got to be some other candidates that we are not thinking about right now that have got to be in the running

I’d say it really depends on which way the Boosters are leaning & how much they are going to allow Danny White to make the final decision...

If they leave it all up to Danny White it narrows it down to most likely Frost or Heupel.

If they want a splash hire, there’s a number of names along with the candidates already mentioned that could be a candidate, but that would more so come down to them being able to lure away a coach from another program & I’d imagine most coaches already in a good situation wouldn’t wanna touch that Tenn job.

But if they want a solid coach who understands the terrain of the SEC Malzahn is probably the best available choice.

As far as other names not mentioned, I would guess guys like Tom Herman, Matt Campbell or Neal Brown could be in the discussion.

A big time sleeper candidate would be Coastal Carolina HC Jamey Chadwell, he’s originally from Careyville Tennessee which is just a few minutes outside of Knoxville, he played QB at East Tennessee State & has coached at nothing but Southern schools like Delta State, Charleston Southern & Coastal Carolina his whole career. He’s also 79-52 as a HC in his career although he has no P5 experience, but he just lead Coastal Carolina to their best record in school history going 11-1.

Yeah I read a few thread on Tenn’s fan board & they mostly are mentioning Malzahn as the favorite name they know.

But most fans are not well versed on coaches anyway, so they probably have no idea who half the candidates are lol.

Danny White is a home run hire and someone that would straighten out this place in 5 minutes.
We talk about dudes leaving early, evaluations, development etc etc. that all steam from the head coach.
But the problem has been the people doing the hiring.
