Ya, 6 spots total is better than 5 and as far as the preferred landing spot goes, 2 is much better than 1. This was by far the biggest problem this Bill posed to us. It’s still a problem because of the conference cap and plenty of other crap, but that extra spot matters.

Not sure if I missed something. I thought we got two additional spots(BIG and SEC) as both can take have 20 v 19. I know most are speculating no chance for us to SEC, but that spot could go to a competing team that could go to BIG or SEC like NC, FSU or UVA and indirectly free up one in the BIG?

Yes, I meant to type 6 rather than 5.

I’d be shocked if Miami didn’t get one of those 6 spots, would just prefer the Big 10 and I know UM would too.
 
Hypothetically, if we join the BIG, how soon would we actually be in the conference with a BIG conference schedule? Would it be like a "Miami is set to join in 2031" thing or a right away thing?

FSU has about as much chance to get to the Big Ten at this current moment as FAMU had to beat Miami

The only thing that would change that and still probably would not change it is if Big ten can get to 24 at some point

Because you’ll get more like a gazillion extra dollars for the university from the research consortium and the Big Ten media deal is bigger than the SEC and also the SEC does not want Miami the way the Big Ten does Miami‘s further down on the SEC list it might not get to that spot

Can’t remember where I saw it, probably Politico or Axios, but it quoted a House leadership source as saying this bill likely couldn’t even make it out of Rules in the current form.

There’s also enough Rs that are ****ed at Cruz for holding up House passed legislation and/or are ****ed that the sports bill they worked on failed multiple times to advance to easily tank this.

Then add 30-40 members of the House Freedom caucus, where I could see limited enthusiasm for the bill.
So right off the bat you could have close to 100 House folks against the bill.
That's not enough to kill it but Hakeem Jeffries has a lot of pull with the Dems in general.

House Freedom Caucus has 31 members and they are against this bill too. That’s why I have always said this bill isn’t passing the House in its current format and people are getting stressed for no reason at all

Reality is nobody knows what will end up being negotiated by the combination of Media partners + conferences. Lot of horse trading going on. However as far as current regulations ... Miami would need to inform the ACC, prior to June 1, 2027, that Miami is leaving the conference for the 2028 season, and then pay the appropriate exit fee. If all parties are in agreement, without any restrictions from this bill, it could happen that soon. IF the 3 year independent status becomes a law .. then I believe Miami would leave in 28 and play 28, 29, 30 as an independent joining the B10 in 31. Doubt the 3 year independent restriction actually passes.
