We could be in the middle of WW2 and Schumer would be voting for Hitler as the Dem nominee for president.
 
The Senate did change the 5 year requirement to be independent from 5 years to 3 and it will sunset in 6 years. It did NOT change the expansion cap of 19. The Senate will pass this now next week. Only hope is the House kills it.

As for the rest of your post, yiure just repeating yourself. You’re fully convinced the bill will die because it doesn’t have player representation while ignoring reality, which is congress rarely cares about the opinions of those not giving them money.

Another issue being ignored is that CFB fandom as a a majority are fed up with lots of things going on in CFB. The majority want rules put in place to stop the Wild West situation currently going, but the fandom doesn’t agree on the answers either. For every UM fan calling their congressman to say kill this bill you have a fan of say an SEC team calling their congressman because they want this bill to pass.

One thing I would say is I would bet if you polled the actual players, they would be oblivious to this bill and how it affects them.. There is a reason this is being fast tracked and when everything is implemented many will say they are surprised and were unaware.. ALOT of people involved are dropping the ball or have been bought off..

Spoiler Alert: We are playing in the ACC in 2027 & 2028 — no matter wtf happens with this bill. 2nd Spoiler alert: our payout in both the summer of ‘27 and the summer of ‘28 from the ACC will be less than the schools in B1G and SEC. Last Spoiler Alert: even with increased payouts, those schools aren’t projected to match the NIL payroll we have.

The greatest and most immediate threat to UM is the salary cap. The NCAA will be able to fine us $1 for every $5 we go over the cap, and however much we go over gets subtracted from our-next-year’s salary cap—indentidem i.e. again and again until we get under the cap. And of course, said new cap for us would be lower than everybody else’s. As a big spender we’d have to take the most money away from our student-athletes. And that’s not just from our football team, that’s every single sports we have.

Our 2027 recruiting class, which we have already committed to spending large amounts of sums on, would then come into conflict with paying possible NFL early entrants to return to school, portal players, or players who want to stay but we’re reducing their wages by so much it’d be dumb for them to not go elsewhere as the teams who are not above the payroll-salary-cap-ceiling become incentivized to spend and quickly get really good players at a bargain price-point. Flipping other blue-chippers in the 2027 cycle; could become completely unfeasible in an instant. Affording portal players could be impossible cuz how close to the max we are. We’d have to cross-coordinate roster payroll limits between two dozen sports teams.

I hate the cap as much as you do but the read I’ve been getting is that its going to get circumvented by the “un-associated” NIL deals. Otherwise the Louisiana senators , for example, probably wouldn’t be supporting the Bill.

The issue which complicates it is the inevitable selective enforcement on the part of the NCAA when it comes to policing unassociated NIL. Programs that are obvious targets like us will likely have to operate a lot more carefully.

If a coach leaves, well, if you are a football player or basketball, you are getting paid big time money now anyway. More than most coaches that aren’t the head coach.

I love the 1 time free transfer. It’s the way it always could’ve been. This 3-4 schools in 4 years is ludicrous.
 
Can UM just finally announce we are going to the B1G today and make this ******* conversation moot? Or has another variable put another 3 year hold on the announcement in a dynamic, fluid landscape.

How does it hurt Miami?

We will be stuck in the ACC and NIL deals like we do will ‘capped’. Both are bad, real bad for Miami.

Unless you’re in a contract and negotiated and you’re being called a student and you should be able to transfer as many times as any other student would be assuming there’s a place for you and that has literally nothing to do with being 26. Five years for five years of seasons, kind of solves that and they could just be legislating that into law but instead they’re gonna pull all this realignment bull**** and go against freedom of association and other constitutionally, derived rights.
So much hypocrisy about rules for thee but not for me

This is brutal for Miami and I don’t even have to go into all of the details.

Even with Miami getting unequal revenue share in the ACC now just on the media deal in another year or two that would still be $30 million minimum behind the teams. We are competing with for national championships from the SEC and Big Ten if not higher.

You know that amount of money we got from the playoffs and keeping it all?
Well, all of that changes this season because the new part of the playoff deal essentially just gives every member of the Big Ten or big 12 about $22 million a year for it and the ACC gets 13 million a year regardless of whether you’re in it or not

So now just on this point alone if you’re stuck in the ACC and there’s no sudden massive interest in Boston College in Wake Forest is drawing TV ratings before day one starts of any given year and no matter what the Nike deal is or what the mas brothers do you are best case scenario $40 million behind and even if you get billionaire donations that $40 million is just getting you to even while other schools that you’re competing with can use that money for other things

There’s literally no reason other than spite and complicate people like Cody Campbell and his Texas Tech losers for there to be a cap on private organizations choosing what the memberships are or making somebody have to go independent for a number of years especially just take this one into account so Florida state in the same exact university system in the same state is South Florida if they got a big 10 invite has to go through five years of independent which is pretty essentially financially impossible even for Miami two guys, but south Florida could get invited and go tomorrow so now you’re treating members of the same class in the same state different

Yes, they needed some antitrust exemption to make sure the state courts are not one up being each other and there are some things in this building that are good. There are some things that we might disagree on, but this part of it is total bull**** and you better hope we always have billionaires helping to make sure that that gap is decrease because even if Miami is greet every year in Windsor national championship every year we still start financially behind the Ohio state of the world and I’m just talking about on the media side

Because having more money than everyone else won't help us? Because we won't be able to hand-pick our QB every year as we have been doing? Because with the NCAA back in charge, bagmen will be back for favored schools while Miami will be under the NCAA's scalpel, looking to be made an example of? while Bama/UGA/OSU get away with murder.

Not to mention limiting what athletes can rightfully EARN from their own talents and efforts on the FREE MARKET is evil and fundamentally UN-AMERICAN!

Think about it: how much better off are Cam, Mensah, Beck, Toure, and so many other recent Canes BECAUSE OF the mutually beneficial OPPORTUNITY of NIL?! In the old days, they would have been trapped at the lower levels of the sport to wallow in penniless obscurity! Now Mensah - the best QB in the sport - gets to compete for the NC and Heisman, rather than being stuck at Duke; what a waste that would be!

NIL has made college sports better than ever for the fans and players as 1) every year is truly different, and 2) the opportunity for the cream to rise (and the crap/deadweight to fall) is ubiquitous and ever-present.

This bill is just a Trojan Horse to restore the previous status quo while throwing the players and fans some measly table scraps - e.g. 21.5 million/105 players is only around $205,000 per head; and in 2026, $205,000 is good money, but nothing life-changing.

Think about all of the kids who have made life-changing money since 2020 - why would anyone want to artificially limit that opportunity?! "Competitive balance" and "bankrupting universities" sounds like a poverty, state-school priority problem - not a legitimate one.
