Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

I think theyll get 60 senate votes for it to pass. I think the more murkier question is what about the house? Rarest of rare occasions whereby they are opposed to what trump wants, and Scalise mike Johnson, who steer the house majority ship, are LSU guys who seem firmly opposed to this

So this bill prevents any conference movement for the “P4” schools but doesn’t directly address the discrepancy in media rights deals? So it basically tells the premium brands in the lesser 2 conferences, “we know you want to maximize your revenue, and preventing you from joining those conferences will prohibit you from doing so, but tough luck.”

Yeah that totally isn’t an unlawful restraint of trade. Trying to grant an antitrust exemption for that is BS.

19-9 vote too
Yeah this is going to be a close one but i think they can get to 60. 13 republican yeas, 6 democrat yeahs, 2 republican nos, and 7 democrat nos

Understand age limits, but even that is dicey. College football had older players long before the NIL era. Seen it with guys who sign pro baseball contracts & later find their way back to college football. BYU has always had older players as a result of many of its athletes going on missions. Also don’t have a problem with a player getting one additional year beyond a fifth year if he’s sidelined by injury.
But our 26 yr old TE is a bit much as well as Indiana fielding a quite mature roster.

President Joe addressed this on Joe Rose and doesn’t seem worried about it at all

As of today, 24 collegiate athletic conferences, 267 colleges and universities across 49 states and Washington, D.C., including historically black colleges and universities and current student-athletes, have all publicly supported and praised the Protect College Sports Act. Additional endorsements for the bill include: the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League Players Association (NFLPA), National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), the National Basketball Coaches Association, American Football Coaches Association, United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), Team USA Athletes’ Commission (Team USA AC), and National Governing Body Council (NGBC).

That list is sort of misleading. You will see every acc school listed there because the conference supports it but there has been no letter of support from the school itself nor our president. Same for many schools listed there. Hence why Miami is not hyper linked there since theres no direct support to reference. Politics at its best

The word of the past few weeks has been “TRO.” I don’t see anything different happening if this bill does indeed pass. The second pen hits paper, a hundred complaints get filed.

A prelim would also be granted, and there’s no way this thing is found legitimate by SCOTUS (at least based on Kavanaugh’s dicta in Alston.)

Good point re Kavanaugh

Freezing the conferences in place is awful policy. Not good for anyone except maybe the mid schools who now know they are safe forever.

The relevance to the score/protect acts is that they are now cooked unless the Republican Senate decides to abolish the filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act. That has been a steadfast no for John Thune so until that happens, even the passing of the protect college sports act doesn’t matter.

Highly doubt trump will take a different approach w/ cfb bill, and trump cancelling this signing likely influences numerous House/Senate officials to be more comfortable voting against the legislation.

Anytime the NCAA pushes something I know it won’t benefit Miami, so good it didn’t get passed
