Interesting take here, never heard of this group before. Curious as to what you guys think of it, if you've had the chance to read it.

18 years old.. 17 years old... Must be at practice,, cannot have a job,,, Only get 750$+ a month to pay for all expenses besides food and room.

They can only go pro after 3 years of hard labor, making millions for others. PAYING FOR OTHER SPORTS TO EXIST!! WTF! (womens soccer and bachi ball)

Meanwhile, Baseball and Basketball, the players can monetize of their ability at 18.

"But you get a college degree".... No, the players want money.. Not a badge.

I am a bit puzzled by that last paragraph. Why would this new group go to the NCAA for anything? To me they may give them a bunch of crappy advice to discourage them from organizing. I mean if this group were to come to fruition and would eliminate all the crooked NCAA mess and how they turn a blind eye to the schools they love, go for it.

Blame the NFL for not allowing players to enter the draft early. There's no NCAA rule that says you have to go to college for three years. A player can 100% pay for his own training, coaching and nutrition for three years and then enter the draft. Nobody HAS to go to college. Baseball and basketball have minor leagues for developing players. The NFL doesn't want to spend that money so they force players to wait three years after high school to play professionally.

So do the players form a new league to force the NFL's hand?

That's one **** of a grand-stand, but I feel like that's what it would take.

The NCAA and NFL have to be buddy buddy on how they work. I wonder if there is any malicious "collusion" between the two parties to keep the players unpaid.

That’s a ton of different issues youve lumped into one issue.

it’s always been amazing for the NFL to essentially be the ONLY big time sports league that doesn’t have owners needing to fund some kind of “minor league”.

The move to allow players to be able to monetize their own likeness is a big step inn the right direction that they should be able to film a commercial for say a local dealership for whatever payment they agree upon.

Now the whole thing about other sports being able to be funded through football is kind of a tough subject because at one time football wasn’t such a cash cow. BUT if rules passed that all revenue generated had to be kept in that sport only to help those kids I.e the best tutors, housing, and maybe extra stipend.

I really would like to understand the history of "Why?" it is like it is.

Just because, from the outside looking in, it's fishy.

Blame the NFL and the NFLPA. The Player's Association agrees to the 'three years removed from high school' rule as part of the CBA.

Courts would go ballistic everywhere if schools quit funding womens sports and funded a male sport. Does not matter whether we as individuals like it or not

I agree.

If there is a market for it, people will pay for it. When football is forced to share revenue with womens soccer.... "taxation is theft" comes to mind.

Who are these ‘people’?
The article doesn't say. The Knight Commission was originally formed by the John S and James L. Knight Foundation. You'd have to see who funds it now to see whose agenda they serve.

The league doesn't want them at 18.

That's why so many end up as security guards at the local strip mall or flipping burgers. Short sighted thinking and no degree.

100%, if allowed, every team would be stashing 18 year olds.

They want them, they just don't want to pay for them. There's a difference.
Stashing them to do what?

As much as some people hate it, the system works. NFL teams don't want to pay for a minor league system.

No, we want them paid and to get a degree. Because they are the laborers. They do the work.

But sure, you can keep thinking that every football player is a security guard or burger flipper after college.

It works -- for the NFL.

It doesn't work for the players.

Stash them to develop them? Are you a football fan? A sports fan? It's common throughout sports to "stash" a player my guy. Do you follow The Patriots? They do this every year with rookies under the guise of the injured reserve.
