Progress on the New dorms

A lot better than what we had back in the day. My first year, we didn't even have air conditioning the first year in Mahoney. Glad to hear that dump's being torn down.

I stayed in Mahoney my freshman year. It was the last dorm that wasnt a residential college so it was a dump.

Lived on Walsh 5 and McDonald Tower 4 I think, then Mahoney and then Pearson. Made the rounds there for sure. Those buildings were old and crusty when I attended there in the mid 90's.

I have had a kid enrolled at UM since 2012. That was the beginning of the work on the new Music school buildings, the Shalala STudent center, and the patio outside of the old Rat , now called Lime. It is amazing how this campus has changed in those years, and what all this new housing is going to do for its future.

Next project according to my son: get a new catering company for the meal plan!!! Biggest complaint of students living on campus.

that was the middle-man rat and i still refuse to acknowledge that it ever existed.

there is nothing wrong with the name of the lake. for anyone that knows the campus culture outside of sports, the university has strong ties to seminole nation. the lake was named in 1929 after the tribe's chief (fsu didn't use the seminole nickname until the late 40s), they built us the war canoe for our rivalry with uf (hilariously excluding fsu), and still make the jackets for iron arrow members. no one that goes to or graduated from um cares that the lake happens to share the name of fsu's rider.

Can I live their without being a student? I had a nice apartment in college, but if the dorms were half this nice I would have stayed on campus. Wonder what's the next negative recruiting tactic will be? Locker room, weight room, IPF and now dorms. What's next? Sea air will rust out your car?

project is chugging along with typical south florida construction times and issues. it's be great when they are done. here's a few renderings of phase 2 to replace the freshmen towers. mahoney/pearson replacements haven't been announced yet, but they'll be just as nice.

pretty sure they aren't tearing down MP just like they aren't tearing down Eaton or the UV. After they finish this new one, and completely finish tearing down and replacing the frosh dorms, they are doing a facelift/upgrade of MP, pretty sure, not a full rebuild.
