Progress on new dorms.

The Towers are being renovated? Somehow I thought they were coming down. Be hard to dress up those pigs.
 
The new dorms look amazing. I'm amazed at how fast they developed this project. The simulation hospital was also built very quick. I hope the price of tuition doesn't esculate with these new dorms. I loved my time at UM but figuring out the financial aspect of school was always difficult for me and many others who attended UM.

I agree here but I'm guessing renovation. They have a massive footprint and good enough bones. They just need to redo everything inside and outside and open the windows up a lot.

My son toured the simulation hospital last week. He said it was unbelievable. His English for Engineers prof took the entire class over to see it. There is a large infusion of money coming into the university. He was reading where Miami is actually trying to lower tuition. They are going to build a new engineering building. My son is moving off campus for a year. He said a student is suing the university because the black mold is so bad in M-P the kid had to move out. My son lives in Pentland and he said that every sophomore he knows says Hecht is actually cleaner than M-P. By 2025, the campus will have to take a backseat to nobody. Just going to be gorgeous.

The simulation hospital is truly 1st class. It opened a semester earlier than projected. My cohort had our simulations in there for our last year of nursing school. I was a commuter, so I never stayed on campus in the dorms but I did hear plenty of bad things about the dorms. The STEM program recieved a 100 million dollar donation from the Frost's about a year ago so a new engineering building wouldn't be a surprise. I think the science building is also in line for a revamp in a few years. The school is making the necessary strides to remain a top academia. Regarding UM lowering the tuition, I would have to see it in order for me to believe it. UM is too fee happy. These people charge for everything! $500 parking passes for the year. I use to get charged an additional $500 just for being a nursing student.

Tuition will continue to increase every year. So will housing. Housing will likely increase MORE when these are completed than they would otherwise.

Awesome. I've always thought the towers could be really amazing if done right. They're among the tallest buildings in the area. Make them more like condos -- the views from the upper floors will be absolutely gorgeous.

It's a financial decision. Way more expensive to start fresh in all likelihood. But yes, I'd prefer they go down as well. I stayed in one of them over a summer. Place was awful with the exception of the storm windows and ridiculously cold AC. Some of the best sleep I've ever had.

Science building definitely needs love. What's going on with Richter? I know that's been due for some work but no idea if it's been done yet.

Definitely with you on lowering tuition. I SERIOUSLY doubt that's going to happen. Especially because it's a stupid thing to do... using the money to increase scholarships would be far more effective. There are more than enough people willing and able to pay $60K a year to go to The U.
