Pretty good article about Charlie Strong

whats the fascination with charlie strong, without Teddy B, he is hot garbage as a head coach.

Sick of this rhetoric:

So is Bill Walsh without Joe Montana
So is Bill Belichick without Tom Brady
So is Mack Brown without Vince Young

The problem with that argument, is that said coach CHOSE and developed that player. Without the coach, that player doesnt have the chance to be what he became. Teddy CHOSE to go to UL BECAUSE of Charlie. That says A LOT.

I give the college coaches MORE credit because it's the actual coaches who chooses who gets a scholarship. And then he has to recruit that player against other great salesmen. One of the top QBs in the country CHOSE to leave Miami (and decommit from the U) and went to Louisville. KY. Think about that.

Strong wanted to change philosophies, but he didn't go all-in and it backfired horribly.

Agreed. That's why I don't think he would necessarily be a failure here. He's learned. He'll either go all in or go back to who he is and what he believes. If that is enough to make him the best candidate I don't know. I do think he would be a much better fit here.

There are 5 programs that are the top of college football. Programs that is you reach them you either win big or never get a decent HC job again. THE U, USC, Bama, ND and UT. These are programs where for similar and sometime unique reasons, you cannot fail, period. Many coaches reach for the gold ring held out at these schools and many fall on their face. If Golden had won a NC while here, do you think psu turns him down like they did, or pays him 5 million? These jobs are high risk/high reward jobs. Win and you are god. Fail and you are a loser. I wanted nothing to do with someone who lost at UT, or Bama, or USC.

100% B.S. the ONLY reason he got Teddy is because Radio was fired. Period.

I think he could have success in Miami, not the absolute success that Butch could have. But Strong, with the right staff could do good here.

And how do you get to that point? He actually recruited Teddy in order to make that happen. Teddy could have gone anywhere else he wanted.

Charlie did his job and it paid off. Literally. It's not Strong's fault Randy was inept.

Teddy wanted a black coach. Default.

Typical. Whenever someone brings up the fact that Teddy went to UL, and not UM, Strong detractors mention it was due to the fact he wanted a black coach.

Not because of Strong's ability to recruit. Not because they actually read WHY, but because Strong is black.

Do yourself a favor and read up on why he chose UL and stop $hitting out what you read on a message board.

I like the cut of this FireSwasey's jib. Reminds me of an old poster I liked. I'll be watching you.

Strong to Texas is like Rich Rod to Michigan, Golden to Miami, D'onofrio with coaching defense, Randy Shannon to Head Coaching, James Harden with a razor, Paul George to power forward...terrible fit. Strong was attempting to build Louisville in Miami's image, just think what he could actually do with MIAMI.. IJS

We're also assuming lighting will strike twice with Butch. Sequels are rarely as good as the first. Look at K- State and Louisville. Butch is getting up there in age. I know he says he still has the energy, but does he really? College lose a step with age or the game passes them by eventually. He hasn't coached in a few years. Can he still do it.

I think anyone would've struggled at Texas. That place was a sinking ship. He was on the seat the day he got hired. And plus the qbs at Texas are garbage. Both Rosier and Kaaya are better. And he'd clean house in recruiting. I think he'd be a good hire, and plus he's won the few big games he has played in. I mean he's OU Florida in the Sugar Bowl and they demolished us two years ago. I think he'd be a home run hire.

Dude I have read it. I know he almost went to LSU but he wanted a black coach. Period.

Which again, proves you read d1ck.

Period. You know there's a website called Google.

You can actually use it to search for things that substantiate your argument and make it sound like you have a good point.

(You know, instead of just throwing up things you read on a board) You read that he considered LSU, but you didnt mention the rest of the article.

Go ahead ...
