Honestly I based my day around the traffic on US1 on normal days.
I would seriously consider canceling my season tickets if they built a stadium on campus.
Not worth the hassle lol.
In short...
The "on-campus stadium" is a misnomer. While I would love it (go back to George Merrick's original plan), I am more concerned with the land being either owned or controlled by UM. Thus, "expanding" our campus.
I have made past arguments for locations in South Miami, Tropical Park, the old dog track area, and the old Orange Bowl area. None of them are perfect and all of them face significant hurdles. But what they have IN COMMON is relative proximity to UM that could open up an expansion of the campus. Or a "satellite" campus.
UF will be building space in Jacksonville. UCF will be buildng space in downtown Orlando. F$U just bought the local hospital system to copycat off of Miami's success.
I alternate between being "serious" about the subject and making sarcastic jokes to hide 40-year-old scars from all the times I have generated "good ideas for UM" which were ignored (mostly in my Student Government days, but I still have some good ones).
As much as I hate and mock F$U, they found a good way to camouflage Joke Campbell Stadium: turning it into a multi-use building (and bathroom). It's not a terrible idea. Also, my office currently looks out at The Battery and the Braves' stadium. So I'm a fan of multi-use, I'm a fan of multi-tasking.
Yes, the old days of "just build a single-purpose stadium for the team, dammit, or I'll move to another city" are over. But I do believe there are multiple locations that IF WE FOUND A WILLING MUNICIPALITY who would harness the power of emininent domain and the ability to issue bonds to finance the project...could COULD result in a new campus annex or satellite campus that INCLUDES a stadium.
You have to think big, or nothing will happen.
