Prediction on year Cristobal takes over.

He’s interviewed for the job 3 times. His entire family is based here. It’s well known Miami has always been his dream job.
Guess we missed out 3 times then…and That was before he made 5 million while winning championships at a school that cares about football, and puts money into it. he would know more than anyone the **** show Miami is now.

Not power, but I honestly believe Blake has a way of... idk how to say it. In Germany, theres a saying that goes "jemandem Honig ums Maul schmieren", which freely translated means being an asskisser.

Blake kissed a lot of trustees asses very well. Oh, wasnt that hard.

Yes, Mario's average salary under the new contract funded by private athletic gifts (read: Nike money) would still be less than Richt's average salary under the terms of his extension (especially when you factor in taxes).
More interested in Mario’s buyout, really.

I‘ve read conflicting articles online. Not that it matters, nothing at Miami is changing.

"Oregon Coach Mario Cristobal had been mentioned as a candidate for the vacant Auburn job, but the third-year coach of the Ducks will be staying in Eugene. Athletic director Rob Mullens announced Thursday that Cristobal and Oregon agreed to a contract extension through the 2025 season. A one-year extension will be added to the contract if Cristobal wins the Pac-12 North or wins nine regular-season games in one of the years on the deal. The new contract will pay Cristobal an average of $4.55 million annually. He will make $3.2 million in 2020 and his paycheck will increase annually through 2025, when he will make $5 million."

Cristobal made $3.2 million in 2020. Diaz made more than Cristobal last year and they are likely making about the same this season. Before Blake James gave Richt a contract extension he was already making 4 million per year.

You'd have to be an idiot to think Richt took a pay cut in his contract extension, he likely had it bumped up to somewhere between 4.5-5 million per year. Again, 3 years ago Miami was paying Mark Richt more than Cristobal will be making under his new contract, even with all that Nike money. Please stop with the "pay cut" stupidity. That "Miami is too poor" ship sailed a long time ago.
I'll never understand why dudes on here act like Mario is making Saban money. His salary is very doable for Miami if they want him. Stop the bs that Miami can't pay. People forget Choker was one of the highest paid coaches in all of football at the time and Richt was making more than Mario is now and that was 3 years ago.

Understood. Looking at the tax advantages all Miami needs is offer Mario $5M plus bonuses and we’re all set. Same with selected assistants who might come with him.

Who is paying the 80% buyout on a new 6-year contract worth $27M (signed in December 2020), not including some assistants? The Souffeer (sp?) family was willing to pay $10M three years ago. Would they double up now?

No, I don't think anyone will pay a 27 million buyout. I think there is a good chance Cristobal will end up in the ACC by the end of the decade but not necessarily with Miami. Let's project this scenario: Saban retires in 2025. Is that unrealistic? Not at all. When Saban hangs up his spurs, Bama is going to go all in for Dabo and it is pretty much a guarantee that Dabo will jump at the chance. That will open up the Clemson job. IMO, Clemson is a better job than Oregon. He'd pretty much have no competition in the ACC and can drop a game or two in the regular season and still make the playoffs. Oregon has to run the table to get in (in the 4 team format).

Once again- with the new contract Cristobal currently makes 4.5 million per year. Diaz makes about 3.5 million year. Richt made 4.5 million per year 3 years ago AND they were going to give him another 1.5 million for an OC. Oregon's tax rate for salaries over 2.5 million is 10%.

Florida has no state income tax. 4.5 million in Oregon means roughly 4 million in Miami. Miami already would have paid considerably more for Richt+OC than giving Cristobal 5 million per year. There would be no pay cut.
I thought Cristobal made 5.5 mil?

Not unless they gave him a secret contract extension on top of his public contract extension (kind of hard to hide at a public university). He went from 2.7 million to 3.2 million, and it goes up each year until 2025 when he will be making 5 million. It averages out to 4.55 million per year.

he makes about 5.5m because Oregon can actually achieve things and he has incentives, plus Miami would have to beat that number and the years, plus they’d have to pay his 6-8m buyout unless they wait 2-3 years. He has a bright future at Oregon, and financial support…why would he come here?

@Poopscoop d, does Mario still want to come home?
**** always WANT to come home. Before Elmer fudd ****ed everything up it was basically a done deal. Just semantics on the buyout. Now I doubt it'll ever happen cause board won't justify that kind of commitment if they find our current state acceptable...

Great win for Oregon, but no one on this board would’ve been okay with Cristobal’s first 2 lackluster seasons (Second season was 12-2 but didn’t beat a “good” team the whole year) with future NFL Star Justin Herbert or with last years 4-3(?) record.

And if you’re going to tell me you would’ve been fine waiting with Mario until year 4, then why are we not giving Manny the same chance?

EDIT: Also, yall bugging if you think Oregon puts up any better of a fight against Bama than we did
The stupidity of the Manny Apologists on full display here.

Mario’s 12-2 season you are laughably trying to downplay included back to back wins against top 10 teams to finish the season, including a win over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

Tell us when Manny beat a top 10 team.

Tell us when Manny won a major bowl game… or any bowl game.

Any coach who doesn't give up a 50 burger to UNC/Clemson every 2-3 years should be in play right now.

Where am I making a huge logical leap?

Is 2025 too early for Saban to retire? No. Would Dabo be Bama's #1 target? Yes. Would he take the job? Yes. Would Clemson be interested in Cristobal? Possibly, if he continues to have success. Is Clemson a better job than Oregon? Yes.

That’s what I thought. Eugene vs returning your home to glory.

Some of these takes are delusional saying he’ll never want to come back because he has it made in Oregon (Nike, recruiting, easy conference, etc).

They were willing to pony up his buyout last time before Flake. Let’s hope that’s the case still (idk what $ it is now) or if he has a Miami clause in his contract.

@SWFLHurricane why did Cristobal leave after a week under Al Golden?
Someone said it on CIS and I can't remember everything but it had something to do with Golden and staff getting in his face for punking someone on another staff over a recruit.
Had nothing to do with any of that. He became friends with alfraud when he was hired. Not long after crap got toxic with Pete at fiu and he was let go. When that happened he didn't have alot of offers for coaching spots and was actually gonna leave for a government job his brother set him up with. He came to um more as a favor to Mario so he'd have a paycheck while he was shopping for offers. That's when Alabama got an opening and offered him at a substantial raise from what we had him at. It was a mixture of that and him talking with Mike who was about to quit over no d and they both saw the direction of the staff.
