Prediction on year Cristobal takes over.

Go look at Oregon’s recruiting pre Mario and after he arrived …..both had “ Nike money “.

He’s a dawg on the trail.
Careful now. Can't give them rationale thought. Can't bother to tell them PRE Oregon he was national recruiter of the year TWICE... Anyone that still counts Mario doesn't understand the game. For the argument to be him as a game manager they don't understand the role a staff plays...

they can pay him whatever they want yet they haven't. Peeps forget Manny initial contract was bigger than Mario contract and that was after paying a buyout to Temple for his sorry *** and Oregon actually got paid from FSU for Willie. even with Mario extention and pay raise he still isn't even in the top 25 of coaching salaries after not being in the top 50 on his initial contract. If Manny sorry ash started winning big games and NY 6 bowl games to justify an extention I bet he would be making more than Mario.

Just because someone has money doesn't mean they are going to spend it lol. Peeps need to stop overrating Knight and that Nike money, because if they were as serious about paying coaches as people claim Mario would have never been hired there in the first place the would have stolen a proven top coach from some one else like the other elite money schools do.
The Ducks players wanted Mario .

He’s interviewed for the job 3 times. His entire family is based here. It’s well known Miami has always been his dream job.
And to think we could have had a Cohiba and instead chose a stanky Maduro.

Doesn’t matter wth they wanted they weren’t the 2000 hurricanes weren’t they a 7-5 team or something. Lets not act like prior to the “players” wanting Mario, big money Phil was bringing in big name proven coaches to Oregon. Willie was a G5 give who had never won his conference ala Golden. Chip was a coordinator with not prior HC experience, same with Helfrich.

Also when was the last time Oregon had a coach in the top ten of coaching salaries….I’d wait for your answer on when big money Nike ever ponied up to do that but I’d be waiting a long *** time since they haven’t. Even Chip who was a god their and got them to within a score of a title wasn’t even in the top fifteen of salaries. However broke *** Miami when they somewhat cared about football has done it. So let’s stop with Phil and all his Nike money like they paying coaches like they are SEC.

Again, the players petitioned for Mario, and because of that no other coach was considered. Nobody aside from Saban and Dabo is doing more than Mario anyways lol.

I got a couple stories for you all. I've posted this a couple times over the years . . .

The afternoon before the UM-FIU brawl in '06, I was at Shula's Gym in Miami Lakes. At that time, the Canes would stay in the Don Shula hotel (either overnight or day of) before OB games. Mario was lifting in the gym. I approached him to say hi. The guy was an absolute pleasure. Anyways, he was so geeked up talking UM football, that he was coming up to me between sets to chat. (To this day, I remember him rattling off off the top of his head, how many yards each carry Javarris had the week before. It was impressive.) I still remember him saying then that "if you cut me open, I bleed orange and green." I get coach-speak, but this wasn't a rah-rah speech in front of the media or for boosters. This was a private conversation. I will always believe he was being candid and meant that.

Years later, when he was HC at FIU, he did a "Columbus Connects" session at Miami Columbus High, our alma mater. It was basically a series of speeches by former alumni open to students, alumni, etc. Networking type thing. I went to Mario's. I don't remember specifically what I asked him, but I remember I [jerk-ily] put him on the spot about UM vs. FIU and he was a little testy about the suggestion that he was partial to UM and not his current gig. He said something to the effect of "I'm the coach of FIU now."

I do think if this job ever came open, he'd strongly consider it. If you're not a Miami Cuban, you don't understand that there is some gravitational pull that Miami enjoys with that base. I think he and his family would relish the opportunity to return. We already saw how quickly Taggart returned under similar circumstances. Oregon is a great gig and objectively speaking, maybe a better gig. I don't know. But it's a culture shock to what Mario knows and grew up with and I suspect he may long to be home.

*I say this w/o any opinion as to Mario the coach. I'm not sold, but he's likely an upgrade from Manny--which is easy to say based on what we've seen the last 2 weeks.

Why would Mario want the UM job?

My guess is that any answer to the question above will have nothing to do with coaching or his career and solely be focused on non-football, non-coaching career type stuff (i.e.: A desire to not live a whacked out place like Oregon, a desire to be back in South Florida, etc...)

If its only about him wanting to be in South Florida, Mario is on a better path to get the Dolphins job down the line than taking a demotion to the UM job.

Ok cool so you’re going to try and ignore that Oregon has been cheap with HC hires considering all this money they have even though history shows that to be the case and keep sticking with this Mario was hired because a 7-5 team wanted him to be. It’s worked out well for them but Oregon was being cheap when they made the hire and that’s why Mario wasn’t even making top 50 coach money and his current raise and extension is basically what we gave Richt three years ago.

You don't have to pay a coach 10 mil a year to win, ( see Chip ) plus Mario accepts less in order to pay his assistants more.

When you add up all the statements above by Poopscoop and Cribby, plus he's an alumni who won a natty here and was interested in the job when Richt retired.

Its the man's dream job and if we interview and him and express a desire to win big, he comes

And yes that IF is as big as a horse ****

Im not reading through 12 pages on this topic but from perusing a few random pages I'll ask this:

If Manny took over at Oregon when Mario did, would Oregon be better, worse or the same as they are today?

If Mario took over Miami the same time as Manny, would UM be better, worse or the same as they are today?

UM holds a special place in his heart. His family was excited about the possibility of reuniting when Richt retired. This is per a family member during the period that Mario was about to coach in the Rose Bowl I think and we hadn't hired Manny yet.

Which is why I think Mario would be best served to continue to build the program at Oregon then begin lobbying for the Dolphins head coaching job.

Keep in mind the average coaching tenure of a Miami Dolphins head coach in the post Don Shula era is 2.9 years. That job will be open again soon.... then again soon after. lol
