Prediction on Gus Edwards

Kid will be niche player at best this season and should probably redshirt. I think he'll replace Hagans and be a versatile FB/HB who can run on short yardage plays as a redshirt freshman. Todd Gurley he is not.

not so fast my friend most SEC backs are from SEC country this kid is straight out of the Northeast. He could easily get redshirted this season with Duke, Hagens, OT, and Crawford seeing the majority of the touches Don't forget Danny Dillard who got stronger and the transfer from Iowa DeAndre Johnson the kid from Pace. I think he has potential but there is no way in **** he rushes for 800-900 yards with Duke on this team.

Well Gurley is from North Carolina which is not necessarily SEC country. But the fact remains, if you look at what Gurley did in the SEC last season as a FRESHMAN, you don't think Gus, with the same measurements and attributes can't have that same production in the ACC? Don't believe me just watch.

To me it has nothing to do with SEC, but you dont base players off measurements. Thats like saying every rb that is 5'9 190 will be like Duke. Gurley was/is a freak athlete, at 6'1 230 he was an accomplished hurdler, even ran for team USA some. He has returned kickoffs back, he had something obscene like 2,600 yrds his senior year and 35+ TDs. I just hope the guy we recruited is able to shore up the depth chart and give Duke a breather. He will get his first shot at RB because like DT, we have bodies but besides Duke we have no difference makers.

What I'm saying is. Trust me when I tell you, Gus is already our best option as a #2 RB because Crawford is not a true RB nor is he a big back. Dillard is still adjusting and DeAndre Johnson is a journeyman with a lot to prove. Also, look at last season. Duke Johnson had 139 carries and Mike James had 147. Expect the same type of workload between the both of them. He will get at least 800 yards this season.

Never said he is Todd Gurley. I'm talking about the production he could potentially have this season going against weaker ACC defenses.

In reality, I don't like any of our backs behind Duke. Not a **** one. I would not be at all surprised to see Edwards emerge as the primary backup. BUT to expect him to match Gurley's production is a little outrageous.

Gurley had almost 1400 yards rushing, so no he WILL NOT match that production. But to think he will not get at least 800 yards this season is severely underestimating his talent, especially when we all know he will be thrusted into the #2 spot and get a good amount of carries.

We are not going to run the ball enough for that kind of production. Expect to see us air out as much as last season with Duke getting a majority of the carries.

We don't know he'll earn the #2 spot and we don't actually believe he's as good a running back as Gurley either.

Some of you need to get a grip.

This is exactly what I am saying. Coming in and grabbing the #2 spot doesnt mean a **** thing when one back was wearing a neck brace, another back just shouldnt be at miami and while Crawford is a nice player I dont think he could handle more than what he is asked to do now. I think it will take Edwards some time to adjust to the speed of the game, hopefully his confidence doesnt get shaken.

Between Gus and Sunny, all we need is Bill Brasky at FB and this offense would be unstoppable against 11 Ditkas on Defense.

we have the most delusional fans, period. we have Edwards and deandre Johnson both getting around 800 yards and 10 tds.
Edwards will be lucky to get 300 yards, barring an injury to duke. as someone else said, if he has that many yards, we lost duke for the year and the season is in shambles.

A lot of you are naysaying now but will be the first on the bandwagon later. I can see it now.

Maybe, but this

If Todd Gurley, who is in the SEC, can put together the type of season he had as a freshman, then there is absolutely no reason why Gus Edwards can't have that type of season in a considerably weaker ACC.

was pretty out there.

Both have just about the same measurables along with the same speed and vision. I think this kid is going to have at least an 800-900 yard season with around 11 TD's running behind an excellent offensive line. As I watch his film, he looks like an SEC caliber RB which will bode well against not so great ACC defenses. I expect by seasons end, he will be up for ACC offensive rookie of the year honors.

DBC, is that you? I thought you got killed by a bear.

OP set the bar way too low for Gus. I think he will have a Barry Sanders type year. Anything less and I will be disappoint

Not saying you're wrong but just so I understand this, Dillard is still "adjusting" and Johnson has a lot to prove. Neither of these conditions apply to Edwards though who was playing high school football in New York 6 months ago?

I really really like this kid but I'm guessing he will redshirt this year. I'm hopeful that Dillard steps upbut if not Gus may need some carries.

I really dont have any faith in our RBs though other than Duke so the opportunity is there but I think Golden will TRY to shirt him. Might not be able to keep him off the field though.

I think he redshirts if Clements comes back strong. Goldens has a hard-on for Clements.
