I never meant to insinuate that Hartley was good at his job regarding specials. Just pointing out that he got Lou here

Lmfao at taking credit for two already coached up dudes in Hedley and Jose

I will concede that he had the strikers playing better with Gil looking great last year after I thought he might be a transfer portal candidate because he wasn’t going to get that CB playing time he was begging for
Hedley averaged 38 yards per punt the season before signing at Miami. Last season he averaged 47 yards per punt.

Jose had a big leg with a not great accuracy %. Last year Jose missed i think 2 kicks, and I know one for sure was blocked. They might have both been blocked.

Diminishing their improvement at Miami shows bias. Just saying.

Both guys improved dramatically here.

Lmao at the

Probably because players have classes during the day
not yet. Kids just moving in this week.

They seem to be lifting and holding team/position meetings from early morning until noon. Then again late afternoon and right into 6 pm practice.

Leonard Taylor writes a blog for Canesport . He has a short article up this morning and that's the routine he described for the team.

Not here , not on cis.

People want his head because he’s “manny’s boy“ . Nothing more. Is is possible he’s actually a good coach? I mean manny kept him around , going into his make or break year.

When narratives start there’s no stopping it. Just like the cooney is controlling the wr snaps lunacy lol. The guy had the two best special teams players in the country (arguably) and the striker position has been solid to good his entire time here.

Yeah, I’m not really sure how much Patke played a role in it but Hedley and Borregales both played better at Miami than they had at their previous schools. Hedley averaged under 40 yards per punt at JC and Borregales went from 72% at FIU to 91% at Miami. Can I say that’s a direct result of Patke’s coaching? Not really but they did get a lot better here.

Yeah, they’re your players. Why wouldn’t you take credit for it?

Exactly! CIS doesn’t think players or coaches can improve. They are what they are.

Agreed. Though I'd imagine it was more attributed to things like it being Jose's last season before going pro aka his money year, and Hedley is like 26 years old, so he's a grown *** man. Patke said in an interview that he treated them like pros and they basically told him whether or not they were practicing haha. That leads me to believe them getting better was more related to them having the other intangibles (such as an improved strength & conditioning situation as compared to their prior situations, etc)
I have no ill will towards Patke, and he is probably a great strikers coach, but ST is definitely lacking imo. Us going out and getting already good punters & kickers doesn't have anything to do with his ability as a ST coach.
The team had some holes last year (O line, WRs that could catch, LBs, etc) and I think PR/KR and kicking coverages were one that was suspect.

guess I just never noticed in previous years them practicing so late . From what I remember they were morning practices , you know, before class

Was just a guess, I’ve been told now classes haven’t started. Some legit info

Tighten up? It was nonexistent. If you take away every muffed punt it was still horrible. We didn’t have one explosive return. I believe we haven’t returned a kick or punt since 2018 vs Pitt when Dallas did it.

And we can’t take away the muffed punts. That was ridiculous. Hall Pope restrepo Harley all dropped punts. It was a joke. God I miss berrios. That guy didn’t drop ****. Jeff Thomas dropped one in 2019 and it potentially cost us an entire game. Our returns have been a joke for years. Harley and Pope aren’t breaking any tackles so don’t put them back there. Hall isn’t explosive.

Give restrepo another shot with a minuscule leash. Give brashard smith a shot. That’s the type of guy who can break a tackle and go the distance.
Yet he was creamed because he wasn’t “explosive”.
