PractiSe #7

You're just wrong. You know why Andre Johnson, the most talented WR we've ever had here, redshirted? Yea he had talented guys in front of him, but you don't think Butch and Coker wanted to get him on the field ASAP? He couldn't catch a cold in practice hist first year here. Struggled even his RS
FR year for the most part too. Yes it is something guys can and do improve on. Go back to '97 and see how many drops Santana had. It was thought to be a real "problem." And it was, but he improved.

not only that, Andre Johnson didnt really play till his 3rd year in the program as a RS soph. His first year on the field he actually covered kickoffs and got spot duty at WR in garbage time

agreed. worth remembering that ken dorsey had a noodle arm and half of his passes were wobbly ducks but they got where they needed to be- if tate can do that then i'll roll with him.

Some of those Dorsey passes got to where they needed to be because he was throwing to Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne or Santana. I was just watching highlights of 2000-2002 and Dorsey throws 20 picks on any other team.

I don’t get this statement. Catching a football isn’t dependent on age. It’s not like you’re saying he struggled picking up the offense or the speeding of the game or blocking, which happens more when you’re young. It’s the one thing you’re supposed to do at wideout. There is no excuse for dropping as many passes as he did.

I’m not saying he can’t or won’t get better bc he will, but that had nothing to do with him being a freshman
Correct - because a year out of high school we all call caught balls in nationally televised games in front of 60K plus screaming fans on a regular basis. Come on mane. Give some grace.

You must have missed my second part. I never said he couldn’t improve, I simply said being young is not an excuse for drops. Catching the football is catching the football at any age.

Does making an open shot or fielding a routine groundball depend on your age? Do you make excuses for those players too? Routine plays are routine, no matter your age or sport

This is incorrect. If you're not ready physically (getting bumped within your route & not ready to handle it) or struggling mentally (thinking about the playbook, route, the big stage), it absolutely has a direct impact on the end of the process, which is catching the ball.

What @Canes1968 just said in response; it’s a pattern. I commented on this in the other thread regarding the QB practice throws.

N’Kosi is still doing the same thing as last year. Hot & Cold, and even his completed passes r consistently behind the WR. As I said, in a real game, those r precious YACs that will be lost, or worst yet, ints or getting them killed. He throws a nice deep ball from time to time, but his intermediate game is lacking.
It’s his intermediate outs or sideline throws that are bad. He puts intermediate balls in the middle on the money with velocity and touch.

I honestly don’t have a dog in this race; but to me, N’Kosi may have become more mature, but his accuracy is just not there consistently enough for me.

I’m not sure who’s going to win this battle, but for all the flaws Tate has, his wobbly passes, for the most part, have been in front of The WR. Same for Jarren.

If you look at OSU spring game and the little bit Tate has played, he puts he ball where it needs to be on those intermediate routes. That’s all we need. Get the ball to our guys in space and let them run.

He dropped catchable passes that hit his hands. I’m sure you’re excusing Cager’s drops as well am I right? Maybe he just wasn’t ready either. Or maybe guys like JT4 are just so good and hug physically they don’t get bothered by defenders. Oh wait

I give grace when it’s needed. I said he is gonna get better. I actually like him a lot as a player, I just don’t make excuses for drops

The other two were true CB in high school. Bethel was an Athlete and will be more of a special teams guy that hopefully can develop and contribute in his 3rd and 4th years. He is still a RS freshman with time to grow.
I’m not saying he should room with Knowles or anything. He was a project coming in. The hype that came about this spring looks like its fading fast is what I’m saying. Hopefully he can be a gunner this year.

Umm, players develop at different rates. And by the way, JT4 has dropped plenty of balls here his first two years. Let's not make to things up. But yes, JT4 made more explosive plays and more overall plays his true frosh year.

Oh, and now you're comparing a 4th year player in Cager to a true frosh. I mean seeing you grasp like this would be sad if it wasn't so funny.

Hank worked his butt off with Duper or whomever, he demanded better of himself and got there. People forget the "stone hand hank" jokes that chased him around until his senior year.
Hank had an attitude problem or maybe it was a maturity issue when he was younger, too. I remember talking to him after an FSU game when we lost. He cared much more about himself not getting targets than the team losing. That rubbed me the wrong way for sure. I was glad to see he put it all together his senior year. You could see a difference in his whole demeanor. It was fun to watch.

There is no grasping at facts. You just don’t see it. A drop is a drop is a drop. If you drop an open pass idc how short or tall or young or old you are. There are no excuses for it. He was an early enrollee and played too much to let that happen. Idc if Jerry Rice or Reggie Wayne had a drop problem when they were young, that doesn’t make it ok.

Hankerson had the dropsies, too until he worked with someone between his Jr and Sr years and was money here his last year.

It was a famous WR he worked with - maybe Cris Carter.
