Practise #10

What’s the optimal weight for Zion to be able to hold his own out at LT island? And do many here feel he’s there strength wise and technique to handle himself against DE’s, or will we do a lot of chipping from Realus, the RB’s, or TE’s? Personally I’d love to see/hear Nelson is holding his own so we can keep the road graders inside of Scaife, Gaynor, and Donaldson, especially if Navaughn returns back to his frosh AA form. He does that, Scaife also continues to improve, plus the sheer nastiness of Corey at the C spot....that’s the makings of a really solid OL, and one that could open legitimate holes for our RB’s. If we can achieve some resemblance of balance rushing and passing the ball, good Lord I feel sorry for the opposition.

Does anyone know or has it been confirmed Shaq was at practice participating today?
Who said he wasn’t?
Only thing I’ve seen yesterday after that tweet was him out with Pinckney at a restaurant from ig and before that just doing regular treatment that all the players do.

That’s why I ask, I’m sure if he missed it we would have heard but didn’t hear that he was there also. Figured I’d ask

I said I just heard, I have no idea if it's true or not. So I'm not fighting you, this isn't my area of expertise. But you're saying this doesn't exist?

I'm not arguing with you either. And I'm not saying that ineligibility based on academics does not exist.

I'm saying a couple of things that are different. First, there should be no "rumors" or any other uncertainty as to Huff's eligibility. The NCAA first-year eligibility rule is based on a high school player having completed a certain number of core courses/GPA by the beginning of his senior year in high school. The rule is designed to address situations where a kid could flunk HS for 3 years, while miraculously taking a ton of correspondence courses as a senior, and then he would be eligible for admission and immediate playing time as a freshman.

By the rules, Miami would have known if Huff is eligible to play as a freshman...a year ago. There should be no rumors or uncertainty, as his eligibility to play as a freshman would have been locked in prior to his senior year. If, given our LB situation (and the fact that we started 3 freshmen a few years ago), we took Huff knowing that he would not be able to play as a freshman, then I would seriously question the decision-making of our coaches and their recruiting decisions. If Huff has to sit out for a year, then we ABSOLUTELY should have signed a JuCo or transfer LB who was eligible to play in 2019.

And as for the terminology, to call it "academic redshirt" is a misnomer. The term "redshirt" indicates a decision by a university to erase a season in which a player was eligible to play, and for which a player is allowed to have played in up to 4 games. The "regular" redshirt allows a player to play in 4 games, and if a team is forced to use a player for more than 4 games, the redshirt is no longer an option. A medical redshirt also allows a player to participate in up to 4 games prior to the injury.

No matter what anyone calls it, "academic redshirting" is not actual redshirting. As someone has pointed out, it is like Prop 48, when a freshman was completely ineligible to play for one year. There is no choice for the university to make under the new rule, as the recruit should already know his freshman eligibility status by the end of his junior year of high school.

It is possible that Huff is ineligible to play in 2019, but all of our coaches should have known his status in 2018. If Huff is ineligible, it is outside of Miami's control, we don't have a choice of whether to redshirt him or "burn" his redshirt. I won't comment too much on what reporters have written about Huff previously, but I have seen indications that he was in line for playing time as a freshman.

Given our known injury situations, our certainty that Shaq/Pinck/McCloud are all done after this year, Jennings' brush with injury recently, and our minimal number of LB signees since Shaq/Pinck/McCloud, it seems bizarre that Manny would sign Huff knowing he could not play in 2019, and then do nothing else to address the 2019 LB issue in the Portal, when we signed 8 guys out of the Portal.

Noted. We’ll see if he gets into a game this year. Obviously I hope that he does.

However, all of what you said boils down to a redshirt. The verbiage on the NCAA’s website literally says the word “redshirt”.

But no matter, I don’t care if you wanna call it a redshirt, grayshirt, blueballs....who cares. I was told he can’t play this season due to this NCAA rule. I hope that statement is incorrect. Miami needs this kid badly this season. But as the year progresses, we’ll see if it’s true or not.

OK, and if you were told that he is ineligible for the season, then I apologize. You first post made it seem like a rumor, which just seems nutty, as Manny should have known Huff's status a year ago.

The NCAA is insane. I guess they didn't want to call the new rule "Proposition 49". In any event, the new rule is nothing like the redshirt rules, it's a flat-out ineligibility clause, no matter how much lipstick they put on the pig.

And, as I mentioned, if Manny knew that Huff was going to be ineligible, I have no idea how anyone (not you, I'm just talking anyone) can spin this in a positive light. It's borderline incompetence. We signed 0 linebackers in 2018, and 2 linebackers in 2019, one of whom cannot play in 2019.

Oh, but we have Zac Smith, Colvin Alford, Darian Stephenson, and Jake Hoffman.

I used to get the Tasso Turkey Complete from Griot Express in Lauderdale Lakes.

I don’t know where Chez Rosie is though. I’ve been to Le Bebe in Little Haiti a couple of times, Chez Elda in Boynton, and its another place in West Palm off of Okeechobee and the turnpike but I can’t think of the name of it.

The only thing I ever ordered was the fried turkey with diwi blanc and souspa. My spelling is probably awful.

Let me know where Chez Rosie is though. I still like poisson with the rice.

5961 NW 2nd Ave Edison HS area. Formerly at US.1 and 72,73 south of the causeway. My ex was French Haitian and was from NYC and she wanted some home cooking. I looked up a rest. and we headed out. It was 4-5 stools and a very clean stainless steel kitchen in a really bad place. Hookers, crackheads. But on the wall was a degree from Johnson and Wales and Ernest was his name( and his mom who stirred the rice to not make it stick, she paddled it like an expert. Man oh man. Im a 58 yo wm and til this day his griot complete that he made especially for me was and still is one of my top 10 meals ever and ive been around. He did the little things like proper seasoning,Twice fried pork that he made an attempt to remove the excess fat not the good fat...he cut the meat properly. One day I read in Bon Appetit magazine about him. It was over. For 5 yrs he was a secret. Shortly afterwards whilst eating in our white Dodge minivan from Broward..with the passing hookers..LOL a silver Volvo containing 2 gray haired hippy/professor/teacher types jump out of car and go in...I LOLOL we finished and left but shortly after he moved to little Haiti. Ernest is a good man who is in business to feed people, period. He told me that as he had offers.. Don't know if the food has changed but I doubt it he is an experienced, trained professional chef.

That's cool man. Thank you for sharing that.

I will stop by Chez Rosie. To be honest, sometimes its going to be the worst neighborhood with the best food. Its just whether or not people think its worth it.
Haitian food is definitely a delicacy.

That spot Conch Heaven always attracts a mixed crowd as well. I always appreciate when businesses located in the inner city either have such good service or an exceptional product and its not just a hood spot for the locals but a space where people come to enjoy.

In my previous career, I would take my supervisor to place like Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles or I took one of my white colleagues to Conch Heaven on the way back from Downtown. I appreciate the meshing of cultures and people coming together to appreciate and enjoy one another. Very cool brother!

Oh and the other one in Palm Beach is called Prosperity Island.
