The one rule they should add back that would stop tampering is if u transfer u sit a year. I prefer the old skoo
IIRC what prevented tampering was schools be allowed to prevent a player from transferring to specific schools. Or at least preventing the player from accepting a scholarship at those schools. Technically, the player could not be legally prevented from transferring to wherever he’s wanted, but it was unlikely a player would transfer and pay his own way his first year at his new school.

I don’t think there is a way to eliminate tampering. We’ve all seen guys hit the portal and sign with the new school the same day or within a few days I find it hard to believe the player worked out sufficient NIL Deals so quick.

NIL and the Portal aren’t going away so it’s better Miami excel at both rather than us worry about it.

Yea I know there is no way it's going back to the old way

I think it enhances hope.

- Has enabled freedom of movement for players that corches have enjoyed since forever
- Has leveled playing field amongst greater number of teams
- Teams can get much better faster

Also, I'm 1,318 years old. I am the Highlander.
****, you're still alive? Who's head did I lop off then?

I'm fine with NIL as well. But ... what exactly is NIL "supposed to be"? Before it was OK'd, I'd always heard it was about allowing players to earn enough to have some "realistic" pocket money. Maybe it was envisioned but I never heard six (seven?) figure payouts mentioned.

Are players' names, images and likenesses on billboards for businesses in South Fla, are ads featuring players up and running on local TV? Are they cutting ribbons at the openings of new businesses? What/where is the return on investment here (and elsewhere around the country)?

Don't think you can restrict movement. That's what the courts have unanimously ruled against, right?
NIL was never about players earning ‘realistic’ pocket money. What does that even mean?

The original Ed O’Bannon lawsuit was about schools and NCAA generating more and more revenue from merchandise, TV, and video games. In particular games which used player’s names, image, and likeness. Yet the players were receiving no benefit from this growing revenue stream. Over the years in court it evolved into ‘why shouldn’t a player be allowed to earn from his name, image, and likeness’ regardless of the source. To which SCOTUS agreed, and ruled 9-0 in favor of the players.

And here we are.

Am I correct @Rellyrell ?

You are 100% correct.

The issue was that while schools made millions and millions, the players were left with some ridiculously low amount of incidental money (after receiving paid tuition, books and other expenses). Because of the demands of being a "student athlete," they didn't even have the time to earn what other students could make in some part-time job.

I don't ever recall a thought being put forward of a Quinn Ewers reclassifying as an Ohio St recruit and immediately reaping whatever it was -- $1M in NIL money? -- before he ever even suited up for OSU. Or, closer to home, Nijel Pack getting a reported two-year package of $800K for ... what? How exactly is his Name, Image and Likeness producing Return on Investment for Life Wallet?

The " GOOD OLE DAYS " Canes would destroy today's football so take me back to the late 80s please!

Players seem to have time now, but no, time was never an issue. TVD gets paid and use of a new BMW (or was it a Benz) to represent a dealership. Does that take time?

The issue was, and is, empowering the player. By default this takes power from coaches and programs. And who likes to give up power?

You would have to ask John Ruiz about Life Wallet’s ROI on paying Nijel Pack $800K.

I'm gonna watch either way. I want the kids to get paid because I'm entirely sick of big business sucking every ounce of profit out of everyone and keeping it. That being said I'm leaning towards not being a fan of the portal. Maybe some version of it but this isn't the way.

I have the same opinion. No issue with NIL. But players are adults and should be held accountable for what decision they make as far as which school they go to. I’d be fine with one free transfer but then after that - have to sit a year regardless with no exceptions unless going from like a D2 to D1 etc.

Unfortunately, the big business is still keeping the money. The NCAA ain’t paying these kids.

Can we go back to the old days but still have Ruiz dropping bags behind the scenes like the Bama's/GA's/8&4's of the world?!?! Transfers are kind of hard to keep up with and this newer younger generation seems to be a bunch of coddled *****'s......call me old, whatever, but prove me wrong.....
You won't find any takers for that last part because you're absolutely right.

I'm happy the kids are getting a bigger piece of the pie they're a vital ingredient of. Also happy they have the option to move like their coaches have had.

It's not easy to keep up w/ all the roster movement these days but to me that's what message boards are for. To help gather info and share it. Some laughs along the way is the bonus.

And, yes, I'm on the older side of the age scale on here LoL

TVD 'gets paid and has the use of a new BMW or Benz.' Good for him (even though he is hardly an icon in the So Fla community where his "endorsement" would mean much of anything).

QBs are always the face of a program, for good or bad. Wonder what Parrish receives as arguably he was a bigger cog in our offense than TVD? Or, pick any other starter on offense or defense. Talking about coaches "power," my concern would be for the rest of the team in terms of what they "get" and how divisive that could be.

To me the NIL and transfer portal have been overall positives.

The game itself is not as entertaining because offenses get most of the calls/new rule advantages. Defense is way too soft compared to back in the good old days.
