Wait, what? I’m not a massive fan of some of them by any means but to act like the list of sure starters was just Ward and Gabriel just wrong lol. I would 100% say guys in the tiers below would be the starter here this year.

Ward
Gabriel
DJU
Rodgers
Howard
Leonard
McCord
McCall

And that’s ignoring younger upside guys like Moore, Chiles, Johnson, etc. or guys like McCloud that some people liked. I don’t think we should make relying on the portal the long term plan, too unpredictable, but I do think the talent is only going to keep increasing until something eventually changes with the rules.
Beating out Emory and Poff to start here is a low bar imo. We need a high level qb to take us where we want to go. How many of those guy you listed do you think are playoff caliber qb's on this team?
Folks are acting like you can just cast your line into the portal and pull out a lunker qb anytime you want. I don't think it's that easy. First there's gotta be a lunker in there to pull out, and second you gotta fight to get him in the boat. I don't think it's as easy as penciling in a Cam Ward level guy every year. imo it's not a good idea to think you can just pull a playoff caliber qb out of the portal every year.

Oh, I’m not disagreeing with that at all in terms of not being able to find a Ward level guy every year and like I said, I wouldn’t want that to be the plan. But all of those guys imo could be good enough for this roster to compete for double digit wins.

You would have been happy if we had DJU as our starting quarterback? Or pretty much anyone on that list besides Gabriel or Ward? ****, I’d rather have kept TVD if we were just going to grab some mediocre quarterback to be the starter.

The younger guys are great if they’re not going to be your immediate starter. Give a former 5 star a year to learn your system and make a judgement next season or even mid season if he totally wows you.

I’d have taken anyone on that list over TVD or anyone on the roster other than Ward, yeah. Who on that list would you take TVD over?

typical cane fan…let’s be real here,we all knew we needed depth at that position…dude said puff wasn’t a P4 QB starter or backup..he knows that for sure..so I asked why is he still here…you decided to answer for him….simple as that…

I thought you were the one saying he shouldn't be here on scholarship. I must have misunderstood. I admit when I am wrong. My bad.
Go CANES

I wouldn’t have taken a single quarterback on that list outside of Ward and Gabriel.

Way too many Miami fans think we’re just going to pull a starting quarterback from the portal every year. Look at the other portal QBs who were available besides Cam Ward. Dillon Gabriel was the only other sure thing starter. The rest of the portal was littered with three types: guys who had previous success but for whatever reason, moved on like DJ Ukelele, Will Rogers and Tyler Van Dyke (two of them are in a battle for the starting job at their new school). Former high level recruits that didn’t make the cut at their original school. I don’t mind taking a flyer on a former 5 star but I’m not just assuming he’s going to come in and be a day one starter. Or small school guys who are trying to make the jump like Poffenbarger.

I don’t think people realize how lucky we were to get Ward. There was literally two starting caliber quarterbacks in the portal and we got one of them. I don’t want to have to do this every year.
I would throw Riley Leonard in that boat as well

Over TVD or Emory? For real? I mean, agree to disagree but idk how you could watch all of them and think we had the best of the bunch.
My whole point is that we shouldn’t have to rely on transfer portal quarterbacks every year because we’re not always going to hit gold like we did this year and I don’t want to end up stuck with some mediocre dude who couldn’t cut it at his old school as our starter. If we had recruited and/or developed quarterbacks we wouldn’t have to chose between mediocre quarterbacks. Our bar should be a lot higher than “is he better than Emory Williams”.

I think we got lost at some point because I completely agree with you here lol

Don’t really care if you understand or not tbh

“Can” and “should” aren’t the same things

Stay blessed
You guys have this view point of Emory because you saw him on a VERY RESTRICTED playbook. He played in a situation where we knew our only shot was to limit risk. You guys have seen him for a game and a half and you think you have an accurate read on him? That's wild to me... I'm not gonna share conversations I've had on him or what I've seen. But we feel good about his long term potential and his growth.

Just read your prior comment and see you like him. Most of us share that opinion.

“several people I spoke with said they expect the offense to be multiple, but the D to be singular.”

@JG14 is not going to be happy. He has been very outspoken about preferring multiple D’s

Nah I’ve added lots of context to what I said. Context is important.

Big fan of Emory. He was asked to do things he shouldn’t last year.

Yeah I’m on board with what you’re saying. My original comment was about Poff really and not meant against Emory at all, more the fact that we “shouldn’t” be relying on him too much until he’s ready. He’s a legend for that play against FSU already for me. I know he gets a lot of flack here so I understand why my comment could be taken a certain way.

Was hoping Poff could establish himself better so that Emory could just keep working on his craft and not be forced into a position like that where he gets a brutal injury that sets him back.

I like how the room has been trending with Nickel and the focus on the portal rather than dumping tons of NIL on high school QBs

I respect your opinion. But I think maybe you gotta see bigger picture. Look at most championship teams and you'll see the focal point is consistentcy and limiting negative plays aka turnovers out of the QB. Just look at the sec **** near as a whole & you'd see the blueprint. Bama, uga etc. All those championships and which one of them relied on their QBs as game changers? I'll save you the time and simply say none. You guys form your own conclusions from there.
