Post Dorsey: Miami QBs vs Ranked Opponents

You watch a play like this...

And, you see that Dorsey "rarely ever being touched" was, in part, due to how quickly he processed and made decisions. On that amazing play that brought incredible joy to every Canes fan, you can see the LDE *quickly* closing in. Dorsey hits his back foot and releases the ball. And, accurately. FSU had speed at LB, so it's not like Shockey was cruising with 5 yards of separation. It all matters.

I think you're underestimating and understating the value of Dorsey's ability to process and pull the trigger. Internal clocks are difficult to measure, but their benefits are plentiful.

"Average as **** in this offense?" I doubt it.

Lol....FSU put a LBer (Allen) on Shockey....big No-No even more so a yr later vs Nebraska....the most impressive throws by Dorsey happened on the same drive, especially the one to Santana on 3rd down. I was standing 50' behind the bench, and was blessed to see it up close.

I was in seats @ the west goal line.
I couldn’t see where the final kick was heading, so I relied on the west end zone crazies to my left to make the call.
The ball was in the air forever…they waited a loooong time before going nuts :ROFLMAO:

Dorsey was able to compensate/overcome his physical limitations to be a generational quarterback in the college game.

He would have been a great college quarterback (almost) anywhere he played.

His limited NFL career had nothing to do with how great he was as a college QB… just a product of different games played at different speeds and Dorsey didn’t have the arm he needed to be a long term starter in the league.

Weird that this has to be said IMO

Could you imagine Dorsey in an offense which utilizes the hashes being 40’ or whatever apart??

Appreciate u my dawg

Dorsey himself is pretty overrated, and I really honestly think his quarterbacking had about as much to do with the 2000-02 success as Larry Coker’s coaching did. He was an okayish quarterback who had a Pro Bowl supporting cast. Why do you think he was selected in the seventh round?

Of course, most of our QBs since Dorsey (the exceptions being Kaaya and arguably Stephen Morris) haven’t even been mediocre. Brock Berlin actually sucked, and I don’t know why people forget that he was put into shotgun in other games and never did well. He only did well against UF because that was his first game in shotgun and the Gators were totally unprepared for it.

I acknowledge that this may sound funny, but hear me out.......although you only have 7 career posts, I must say after this take, do yourself and all of us a favor, and post less..........
Thanks Thank You GIF by BLKBOK

Jacory & Kaaya were both better than Morris. So was King. In fact I’d say Morris was the worst QB Miami has had to start more than a season since Kyle Wright. He stunk when teams sat back in cover 2. Cannon for an arm, but as soon as Jedd Fisch left… so did any hype for Morris.

Which actually kind of connects back to this thread…

There are unicorn QB’s who would excel (almost) regardless of their OC. They are students of the game with vision and processing abilities to succeed in almost any college system. I believe Dorsey was that kind of QB.

Most QBs are a product of the system they play in. Unfortunately for Miami QBs the last two decades, we have had a lot of bad to awful OCs.

Other than his NFL arm, TVD is 100% a product of his OC - good and bad.

It’s not fair to compare him against Miami QBs who played under Gattis-esque OCs rather than Lashlee or Dawson level OCs.

Good post, solid points.

Y’all know this whole “Roman Empire” **** going around? Well my Roman Empire is Jedd Fisch.. I always wonder “what if” when it comes to 2013 season. He did wonders with Jacory in 2011 and then towards the end 2012 had the offense HUMMING.

Last four games of the year - averaged 500YPG (including 645 yards vs Duke in final game) & 41PPG.

Miami returned EVERY offensive starter from 2012 in 2013 yet regressed offensively. Thanks Coley.

I was actually gonna mention Jedd as the exception to our 20 years of OC misery lol.

The lack of commitment to football from the AD/school left a mark on him though. I remember he was (appropriately) upset because it was an ordeal just to get iPads for the players to use as a digital playbook.

He was a great guy tho.

Yep between 2011-2012 he really elevated Jacory and Morris to a level that was night and day without him. Best hire Golden ever made
