This team has all the talent it needs to win the ACC and be a playoff talent. The DT spot is the only spot without depth, which we will hopefully plug with DE's. When you are bringing in 7 new starters on defense, 6 of which come from the portal, their should be concern of coming together, jelling. They appear to have, but we don't know, yet. WR is the 1 real concern on O because production. The talent is there and it has some production with transfers. I don't see anyone getting enough balls to be a star. This off season, Lofton is 1 of the best players on the team, maybe best(superstar), then it's JoJo's year(best WR since Andre, superstar), now Malichi is a 17 year old phenom(superstar). Moore is the next Andre(superstar). Does all that read as ridiculous as it is? Daniels is the leader of the room and I expect him to play like it. We have other talented WR's, Ray, Ray, Marian, Johnson, other TE's and RB's catching the ball as well that Beck likes to spread around too. A whole lot of talent that hasn't done it on the field or on the field together.
The real thing that isn't proven, is this staff getting the best out of everyone yet and reaching it's goals. Mario made more bad decisions last season. That isn't ever going away after 27 years of coaching. Most fan opinions have substance with this team. This team is the most talented it has been in 20 years. It should be a playoff team. This team under performed last season while winning 10 games for the 2nd time in 2 decades. Mario will never be a top game day coach. We lost 3 games last season, we shouldn't have. People are judging our future by our continous losses to inferior talent and not meeting expectations for 2 decades. All of this is all true. Confidence and skepticism in this fanbase is all justified.
The 2 biggest area's of focus for me, Mario(staff) coaching and the kicking game.
I believe in this roster and I still have the history of skeptism creeping in. Show me Mario!
Go Canes!

Agreed. This is where I'm at with the receivers. I can see the potential at DT, for example, even though we're unproven there because guys are older and have more prototype bodies.

But WR lacks veteran talent. We're really counting on young guys with no almost no experience to step up . . . in game 1 . . . against perhaps the top secondary in the country. That's scary.

ND is a tough first opponent. It's going to be a challenge.
While concerning, I’m told they more than make up for it with their “winning attitudes….”

Any Defense still depending on Wesley B in a big way is in trouble
Can’t wait till Wesley such y’all asses up. Some hating mfers

Imma be honest, I think the whole “veteran talent” narrative is bs specifically at WR. Either u got talent or you don’t. UM are not replacing NFL contributors at any position. Like I said before there’s a difference btw good college players and players good enough to make an impact in the NFL. UM lost good college players, a good program replaces good college players easily whether that means acquiring players through the transfer who show production or just the next man up who had to wait for his opportunity.

It’s a small sample size but swap out some players here and there and Dawsons offense has been fairly consistent with yards

I think Toney is gonna be a good one. My only concern is if we use him like X is he going to hold up physically. X took a fuggin beating game in and game out. His S&C and toughness were on another planet. Doesn’t mean Toney doesn’t work hard or can’t, it’s just a lot more to ask than numbers

But to your point someone is gonna rack up these yards. Who it ultimately is doesn’t matter to me. Would be nice if guys like Ny Carr would step up as quality depth
I watched that 20 min video of Beck an that kind of eased my mind about the WR room. Beck be throwin absolute dimes!! I really didnt watch much film on him an ik its jus highlights but jfc dude puts the ball exactly where it needs to be! His tights ends werent very good an produced i seen the one dude score 3 or 4 tds One game an he was very average. At WR hopefully Marion can be the deep ball threat that #11 was Daniels an Jojo could fill in for #86 an jag that transferred from here! Then u got Toney i didnt see much of a slot impact from what i seen. Not like Dawsons offense anyway! Add Moore,Ny Carr, Johnson, Robinson and Ray Ray an we tbh we should be more than straight! I didnt mention Lofton, Bauman, Schott, and the 6'7 freshman ! Who i think will all get PT this year or should. Move Lofton around put him at slot an H back, running wheel routes out the back field after a few carries. We have the weapons sure there young but they will get better as the yesr goes on! What ND needs to worry about is there QB first start on the road last time crowd was wild asf load the box an let them big money corners lock up outside. Carr been throwin hella picks in soring and fall id take our corners over theres! Id take our reciever "weakness" over there QB "weakness" thats gonna be the deciding factor! Think we win 38 to 10 not even worried!

I can’t find the thread but early in the season IIRC there was like a Top 10 players so far type of thread

I am pretty sure Wes name was on a lot of lists and PFF had him with some decent ratings

Then the whole defense fell off a cliff

Not claiming he is Bermuda Triangle potential but he’s a guy that’s been here a while now, got the S&C up, and I’m curious to see how he looks in this new defense

WR gives me concern

We have no proven players there and are relying on a Soph (Trader), portal transfers and a true freshman
Are you more concerned with WR this year than you were with any position group prior to last year?

Last year we were relying on a true freshman, transfer at safety, the development of another true freshman at safety, and health of a thin group overall for our DBs.

WR is also my biggest concern this season, but much less so than with DB and LB from last year and that gives me confidence overall.

The only reason I bring it up is because you got fans on here that constantly claim, that Cam can do nothing wrong and any critique on him is pure insanity. That’s the only reason I bring it up because it’s the truth. If he would’ve took the check down, we’re in the playoffs last year. And I have full confidence that Beck will not make those same mistakes this year.I’m just crazy looking forward to this first game.

The only reason people are commenting about their 'Concerns' with the WR room is because of the magnitude of the first game, which is completely valid. The WR room's ceiling is extremely high. Beck constantly raves (Publicly and privately) about this room. Dawson is as good an OC as you can have in college football, which is why I'm not as worried. Add in one of the most experienced QBs in college football, and we'll have a good game plan for ND

It's been talked about by multiple people who see practice every day- We don't have any issues even close to the magnitude of that DB room last year.

Agreed. Was trying to get some more depth on that poster's comment because I am tired of hearing about the WR room. Which I suppose is a good thing if that's the last bastion of general pessimism and skepticism for this year's team.

Facts! And unlike last year, we have contributors at wide receiver this year that will be drafted into the NFL. It’d be nice if the media started covering that a little more versus, just saying we have to replace this massive void of talent at wide receiver, which flat out isn’t true.

The Ward didn't take check downs thing is starting to take on a life of its own. Lol...Yes Ward didnt take "SOME" check downs as do all talented quarterbacks but lets not go overboard. It didnt happen enough times to make a drastic difference in how efficient our offense was last year like some people are trying to make it out to be. The way things get taken out of context and exaggerated in today's society is nauseating.
I am talking about checkdowns specially in the GT and Syracuse games to a lesser extent. And I'm only talking about 3 to 4 but IMO they were key ones that "might" have helped turned losses into victories. The defense sucked and Cam did all he could to overcome them. Cam was the man and I'm not putting anything all on him. It's a team effort. I guess I could have typed more out in that post to really express things properly but I was just giving my opinion.

Oh and Let's Go Canes!!!! I'll be there for the Notre Dame and Florida games.

Im looking at Popo came in 6'2 220 we beat out OSU an UGA for him they be havin some **** good linebackers! In this new system maybe he shines thats what im hopin for anyway! Toure if healthy is a animal best LB weve had since Shaq he'llget 80 to 100 tackles if healthy Wes isnt a tackle machine which would leave Toure to doo that!! Wes seemed out of place alot hopefully this scheme helps him too. Hopefully if Wiley is better they don't play the seniority BS an let that man start 6'4 238 JFC we havent had a LB like that in over 20 years start em if hes better or equal

I’m honestly blown away by how uninformed so much of the media is about our program. I just watched the On3 prediction video for our game, and here’s what stood out:

On CJ Carr’s first game:

“It’s on the road. I know it’s not a tough environment, but it’s on the road.”

Interesting comment when Ian Book himself said we were louder than Michigan, V Tech, and maybe even Georgia.

On Malachi Toney:

“I think he’s like 6th on their depth chart right now.”

This just is a clear example they have not paid attention to our program at all this offseason.

And then there’s the constant dismissal of our defensive back room. The media brushes past Lucas, Poyser, Thomas, Scott, O’Conner, and Brantley as if it’s the same group as last year. If this secondary belonged to Michigan, we’d hear every day about how elite it is.

I don’t care if the media is biased, it always is. What frustrates me is when people make predictions and give opinions that are just flat out uninformed.

Take Josh Pate as the example of how it should be done in my opinion. He doesn’t predict us to be contenders, but he acknowledges: the program is high on this secondary, Beck is performing, the receivers are talented. He even says if those things are true, we’re immediate contenders, but he’s in the “believe it when I see it” camp. That’s totally fair.

What’s not fair is the lazy dismissal I see everywhere else. And of all the Notre Dame predictions I’ve seen, almost none actually factor in how massive our additions really are.

I think Miami will be drastically improved defensively. Thats what worries me. If it was Miamis D from last year, I wouldn't be as worried. Should be a great game!
