Possible DC

I think Richt's defenses have been middle-of-the-pack within the SEC for the majority of his tenure. A couple years they were top-5 in the SEC but from what I've seen they're usually hovering around 6th-8th within the SEC.

Not very exciting IMO. I hope he makes a good hire like he did with Pruitt.

I thought Palermo (from Wisconsin) was really solid the 1 year he was here....

I think that was Coker's final year however long ago that was...

I've been on these boards for way too long...now we want Radio back...our best def coordinator the last 10 years was that dude who left to join Gundy...loved his attacking style....old guy anyone remember his name

That would be bill young.
Bill Young.....thanks....great DC...

From 2003 through this year, Georgia has had 3 defenses ranked in the top 10 (scoring avg.). These were in 2003, 2005 and this year....

This wasn't terribly surprising. To me, if you don't have a big-time defense it becomes very difficult to win the big games and especially championships...

Hopefully we get a really good DC and staff...

Dont want Jeremy Pruitt... want an elite 4-3 DC. Randy Shannon is cool with me

LOL at Randy being an elite DC.

He's so elite he's been a LBs coach since he got fired at Miami.

I really question our fan base when I see multiple people asking for Shannon to be the DC.

Hmmm, that's by choice. Randy is still being offered head coaching jobs and they've never stopped. Just like UCF asked for an interview. You're looking for any reason to trash Randy without even knowing facts. Wow

One name that should be considered is Ed Orgeron. Great assistant, former HC at 2 different power 5 schools, excellent recruiter. Currently coaching DL at LSU. I'd consider him a homerun hire at DC.

OC? Give me Dorsey. I'm done with Pricko Suave. Dorsey's ceiling as a playcaller will be so much higher than Coley's best will ever be.

Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

Orgeron is 54 years old and has NEVER been a DC, there is a reason for that. He's a meathead recruiter/DL coach only, but he's **** good at it.
I think he's ready for a DC shot. I might be wrong, but I think he's ready. He's someone that needs to be considered as an option, just to explore the possibility if nothing else.

His stint at Ole **** doesn't bother me. That was a decade ago, and Ole **** had yet to start dropping off multiple dufflebags to land the Laquan Treadwell's of the recruiting world. And...that was as HC. Some guys suck as HC, but are good coordinators or assistants (see Randy Shannon).

His stint at USC finishing 6-2 after Kiffin got fired was really good. I think that ended up landing him the DL job at L$U, and he might have gotten a shot at DC there if L$U hadn't just hired Kevin Steele away from Bama.

As for his age, Monte Kiffin was infinity years old when he was coaching defenses in Tampa...no one complained then because he ******* got the job done. Infinity is hyperbole...but he was 63 when Tampa won the Super Bowl in '03.

AND...I didn't say "hire Orgeron today". I'm saying he's an option to look at, due to all the stuff I posted about him (great asst, former HC at 2 P5 schools, etc). Two different things.

As for Randy Shannon...I, for one, haven't forgotten how boned we were if the opposing O had a running QB (which every offense seems to have now). It never freaking failed. As great as his defenses were, he never figured out how to account for a QB making plays with his legs on a regular basis.

For instance - Former GT QB Reggie Ball would approve of Shannon's return, that's for sure.

You mean Randy's conservative/vanilla Defense that got worse as Butch's players left? No ****ing thanks!

His defense actually stayed the same. 2003 was the last year of butch players.

With Butch players Randy's defense ranked 6th, 7th and 2nd

After Butch players left his defense ranked 28th, 4th and 7th. He was posting good defenses with Romeo Davis and Cook as starting LBs

THANK YOU!! Some of these guys just say anything. No football knowledge NONE whatsoever. Randy has mad players in the NFL from his tenure... But he can't recruit?

Randy defenses have always been good. Even with mediocre talent. But he can't coach a defense? He's still offered head coaching jobs... But he sucks cuz he CHOOSES to do lesser positions to master his craft and learn from different coaches?

Dudes are dumb as a bag of baby diqs acting Randy Shannon can't coach a defense. Got no proof of these claims on Randy. No one you can turn your nose up at Randy Shannon as DC. That's just stupid.

People that want Orgeron as DC are likely the same type that want to give Cristobal a shot as OC. Not every good position coach has it in him to handle scheming an entire offense/defense. It's an entirely different world.

Running qbs are hard for everyone to stop. But I do recall Randy shutting down a potent Florida offense with a running tebow. Did it with a bunch of misfits against a stacked U*** team.

Miami has had a problem with dual threat qbs forever. Still hasn't stopped us from winning 5. You better be able to pass the ball. Cuz just running wont beat a Randy defense.

Maybe others are like that, but I was anti-Cristobal as OC from the get-go.

And those pooh-pooh'ing Orgeron but want Dorsey as OC when he's never done it? Well...that's questionable.

I will go on record as saying I think Orgeron could be a good DC though he's never done it, and ditto with Dorsey as OC. Call me crazy, but I think both of those guys are more than good enough football minds to coordinate on their side of the football.

If another candidate with a proven background not named Randy Shannon is available, I would definitely be open to those possibilities.

That wasn't Shannon - that was Young's defense.

That game would have been much closer if we were able to do anythihng with the ball on offense.
