Position battle - LB

Who do you want to start at linebacker next to Toure for the Miami Hurricanes?

Toure and Smith are already the starters outside of injury. The backup's are up for grabs. I have said, multiple times when you get info from more than one person, its never surprising when it's conflicting. I feel the common denominator is Bonner more than likely takes one backup spot. Wiley or Pruitt probably the other. Is Wiley even a full time LB anymore? He for sure is getting DE reps. That has been conflicting. Marcelin has made a move. If their was a Spring portal, I take a LB, TE, G and probably above all a C. That's my opinion. Maybe a starter, but for certain for the 2 deep.

Funny how the spots many were clamouring for during one portal window (which we knew was only one!) I will never understand the neglect of TE position when we use the position soooo much.. smh..

To be fair I don’t think (at least from the Jack **** inside info I know) we neglected it, we just didn’t make it happen

This is all correct and has been talked about in the CIS pod. Wiley is being looked at to play edge.

Is Rodriguez struggling? I've heard the opposite. I'd take a TE1 even tho I think we're going to play less heavy and more 10 and 11 personnel because our WR needs to eat.

I’d start Smith and Toure. Both have plenty of injury history so I’m expecting there to be starts and reps available to develop depth along the way.

No need to be cute and over think this. Just play the best two.

Do you go with the veteran that’s got some wear and tear, but might actually be in the best shape of his life right now, rocking #9… basically a new Chase Smith?

Or do you roll with what might be the best linebacker prospect we’ve had in years—highest ceiling, real potential to be special?

Safe, proven presence vs. upside that could completely change the defense. What are you taking?
I'm taking both because both will play a ton.

Go with the upside, we don't need Safe... we need playmakers at LB especially without knowing how well the NEW Dline can keep LBs clean
You don't need "play makers" at Linebacker. You need guys who study film relentlessly, can process information, make accurate reads, get us lined-up, make the right checks and play violent.

You're not making any plays at Linebacker if you can't do those things.
