Position battle - LB

Who do you want to start at linebacker next to Toure for the Miami Hurricanes?

Do you go with the veteran that’s got some wear and tear, but might actually be in the best shape of his life right now, rocking #9… basically a new Chase Smith?

Or do you roll with what might be the best linebacker prospect we’ve had in years—highest ceiling, real potential to be special?

Safe, proven presence vs. upside that could completely change the defense. What are you taking?

It’s going to be Toure and Smith barring injury. That’s who they trust. Would love to see Wiley and Pruitt push them, but I don’t think they are there yet. Hopefully with more reps and experience they will creep into their game day reps. I know some people like Bonner, but I saw some very meh reps from him last year. I think the Freshman are Special Teams guys this year

Toure & Smith SZN.

Smith will start but Wiley will play significant minutes and push everyone in that position.
If he can read, anticipate, and command that defense he becomes a day one pick.

If I was him I would reach out to the best backers in the league and ask them about their film study process and how they approach the game.

And knowing how Mario evaluates I would be in that building as much as I could.

The Smith stuff its a little bit alarming to me…I was a fan when he committed, and I think he can help you at the position, just looked sooo slow sideline to sideline last year. You could see a drop-off from Bissainthe to Smith imo last year. imo

Gotta give Hetherman the benefit of the doubt though.

I could see Wiley having a role as a pass rusher this year as well. If nothing else, maybe he's in on 3rd down packages as a coverage guy. Looking forward to seeing his role next year.

Haven't recruited a LB out of highschool who can start since 2022 (Bissainthe). And this year's starting highschool recruit is from 2021 (Smith).

Was thinking the same thing. Not sure his abilities compared to Lightfoot but I think he’s bigger than Lightfoot. Could definitely see Heatherman having him rush like a stand up DE in some of his exotic fronts

Why on earth would anyone pick Wiley at this moment? He's done absolutely nothing and we hear zero from practice reporting.

I hope Smith stays healthy and he gets a chance to shine. As the season goes on, I expect to see Wiley, Pruitt, and Marcelin start to show the ability to get significant reps. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Bonner looks like a different player this year.

Man start Wiley, the best ability is availability, also does Smith have the frame to be a every down LB?
