Bauman Graduating and Schott portalling out to Indiana. We will only have Lofton and Gilbert with experience. NEED a Starter and a Depth piece.

Options right now:
1. Dorian Thomas
2. Brody Foley
3. Luke Reynolds

Other guys:
- Rocky Beers (Colorado St)
- Benjamin Brahmer (Iowa St)

I don't even call Lofton a tight end. He's more H-Back/flex bc his blocking leads a lot to be desired and he's short with a small catch radius so he's not a great security blanket across the middle.

The TEs in Dawson's system are not used well. It will be difficult to get great TEs if we ignore them most games or only use them for blocking. Even Arroyo was criminally underutilized.

Rocky Beers from Colorado State?? Dude better be from Golden, Colorado

Carver was supposedly going to have a role this year and he will be back next year. So I think only 1 TE is needed
I would love to break the bank for an impact receiving TE. That's the one thing I think our offense was missing this year. That's not even a knock on Bauman. I think he gets overlooked on this board. He blocked his *** off against OSU. People like to say, "Oh, Dawson doesn't like using TE's in his system." In his defense, we didn't have a TE you could turn to on critical third downs. Just look at Arroyo last season

This def don’t use Lofton like that. Most of his snaps need to come form the backfield. If m they want to flex him out sometimes then cool, but they r doing hm a disservice developing him as a TE.

Current Scholarhip TEs: Carver, Gilbert, Ruscavich, and the 2 Freshmans.

The way our use of the tight end has changed makes me think we a not going to keep that traditional model. TBH, I really miss the high percentage slant to the TE but now re run that play with h-backs or flex receivers. Good news is EVERYONE knows how to block. This unselfish approach has really changed how the interior functions.

Dawson historically as a oc doesn’t use the TE a lot. Even arroyo only had 35 catches last year and had a stretch of games where he had no catches

I thought more of Bauman than the Carver's this past off season and I wasn't high on him. We need better TE transfers and I take 2. Good kids and wish them all the best here or wherever, but that room needs a upgrade.

With WRs blocking like madmen on offense, I think we be better off in 10 or 20 personnel with Lofton serving as one of the 2 rbs in that alignment.

I think to forces defenses to play the run honestly, especially if we have a qb that can audible out to a pass if not. That 4th wr becomes a better target than Bauman. Could even have alignments with both Toney and Jojo/Wingo or Spafford working out of slots on both sides.
