Portal TE Board

Gaby was saying on yesterdays pod they think the 5 year thing could pass and Bauman would be back.
wow, that'd suck. Bauman has quite literally been the worst player on this offense the entire season. Last few games at least he's started to block a bit better.

This staff has no ******* clue what they are doing at TE. They literally never give snaps at TE to young guys, so I wouldn't even expect Mueller to play. And we've seen with all the skinny TEs they never get them involved...

Guess we just need to hope Gilbert is the truth

If Bauman is TE3, and more of a Redzone/play action short yardage guy I wouldn't mind. But he's not a TE-1.

Doesnt make sense at all.. There is good talent to upgrade the spot, is our TE coach not demanding enough to upgrade the talent or something.. I dont even see a future Miami talent type on roster or coming down the pike.. smh

Blocking TE you say?

We should take him. Mermans need to live close to the sea.

Hopefully Carver sticks around, but we honestly have no clue whether he can play at this level. Would be great to have a + TE blocker again with our offense, when we go 12 or heavy. I am fine with taking Riley Williams back too.

We ask the TEs to do a lot run blocking, so anyone with experience in the system or who is an elite blocker to begin with is going to be at an advantage. It took Bauman forever to get comfortable and proficient blocking in our offense.

I don't have high hopes that either of the true frosh TEs are going to play meaningful snaps next year for that reason. Just as the two this year didn't, and Skinner struggled to get as many snaps as he wanted earlier in Mario's tenure.

Have high hopes for Gilbert as a receiver next year.

Mueller is gonna be a beast. Hugely underrated recruit.
We literally just got 2 TEs the staff thought were great and they didn't play during a season we had possibly the worst TE play we've had in idk 3o years? It was atrocious. They also never play skinny TEs, so Briggs.... idk man.

I like Mueller. I liked Schott too though. Long term if Mueller and Gilbert are the guys I like it. But NEXT YEAR? The plan is bad for next season in the position group that was the worst or 2nd worst on the team (TE and LB)....

Bauman is 7th on the Offense in snaps with 563. According to PFF he is our lowest graded offensive player with >20 snaps. He's 5th on the team in targets, has a 73% reception rate ONLY lower than Trader basically who has a ADOT 3x longer than Bauman. He only has 110yds YAC and is BY FAR the lowest Yards/RouteRun on the team at 0.66. He only has 6 first downs too.... Thank god finally he's at least blocking decent enough...

Gilbert & mueller? Briggs?
Gilbert Im guessing is more blocking lumbering type.. When I think Miami TE more like matchup weapon (Think Njoku, Arroyo type) Briggs looks nice but more like a skinner type project that will take time to develop.. Mueller will hold judgement til he gets on campus and adjust to talent level, his film was impressive but I saw alot of po lil timmys on that video.. Hard to judge, is he at any all star games with like talent?

TE are not expensive in portal, get a good talent and use the spot fr.. We literally play ball with 10 on 11 most times, Bauman be running routes with no icon to throw to him lol.. Dead routes

What do you think arroyo and Njoku was coming out of hs? They both were around 6’4 215-220. Gilbert actually moves good for his size

Gilbert really isnt a blocking type from the few clips i seen. He isnt lumbering either.

If reports are true regarding Schott not being able to catch very well then that was valid on staff part for not playing him. I guess it all comes down to the right TE fit in the portal and the asking price. We will be firm cuz Qb, Wr, D end, secondary are gonna all be higher priority for the budget.

Blocking TE's are more important in this offense. I hate how little we use the TE in the passing game. While it was being reported how deep our TE room was last off season, I got the opposite. We had a guy that wasn't a true TE and a couple young talents and guys in between. I think Gilbert will have better potential now and we still won't use him much. A TE room much the same as this season.

They really need to get the TE position back as a legit receiving threat. We are TE U and we brought in a bunch. Someone needs to be the guy. Hopefully Gilbert.
There's so much you can do with a good TE. One play he comes in motion for that wham block. The next play he comes in motion and fake wham blocks on a play-action and runs an our or wheel route. The next he's flexed wide and blocks for a WR screen, or fake blocks and runs the seam. There's just so much you can do from a eye candy and matchup standpoint to confuse those LBs and Safeties, which should open up the WRs outside or on the opposite side of the formation.
