Interesting discussion over on 247 between Cooper Patagna, who does the transfer portal ratings, and the Miami board. Just to be clear: nothing he said made me any less excited about the pickup. I’m thrilled. I just wanted to pass along his thoughts on Mensah since he’ll likely be our next QB.

Cooper said Mensah will not be the top‑ranked player in the portal. He said that draft scouts he’s spoken with recently have Mensah currently pegged as a Day 2 or early Day 3 pick, though Cooper acknowledged that was the same projection Cam Ward had before his final year at Miami, so things can obviously change. [I personally think he's going to be a Day 1 / early Day 2 pick.]

According to Patagna, the pros are that Mensah is an elite processor, distributes the ball extremely well, plays with great anticipation and throws receivers open, and has strong pocket awareness.

The main knock is that he doesn’t have the strongest arm.

Like either Sorsby or Leavitt is better. They are just hating. That is fine, because we once again, miraculously, ridiculously, got the best player in the portal. Even though it was like pulling teeth

Meh. Im not sure if he's not an improvement over Beck in every facet. That and I really dont care about his draft stock at this point.

I say this with a big smile and all possible positivity….We tampered the h*ll out of this player right?

You’re playing the results. By that measure, Carson is better than Cam Ward.
Cam's impact paved the way for Carson who has now proven that great QB play is the standard. You're entitled to your opinion that Mensah has the tools to be a better QB statistically.

But Beck has taken enough hits from the fanbase and the media. I just want the kid's legacy to be what he deserves and if he wins a championship the only QB's he should be compared to are the ones who have won the ultimate prize.

The pros are exactly what we need in this offense. Being healthy too and here for spring ball is huge. Next year the offense will be much better with mensah. Question is how will defense be losing Bain mesidor and Scott. They’ll be good but probably not as good

100 percent. I expect our offense to be a top 10 unit next year, rather than a top 20 unit this year.

Those are some important pros. Had me at "elite processor."

Did Brady or Montana have the strongest arm?

I don’t necessarily think that’s the case. Anybody with the brain knows that Miami searching for a QB and any good quarterback can be communicating with an agent proactively and then you can see if there’s a mutual interest.
