Please help me understand - Mario Cristobal

Mario is worse than Al Golden doing less with more at bama. He is wasting talent just like Al and the O-line under Mario's watch is clearly the weakest link. Mario is that guy getting credit for coaching skill simply because he's been around good programs - even though he doesnt have the results justifying being in those positions all because he can recruit SoFL.

The Admin/BOT has a pattern of hiring a coach who "manages their career" by simply looking for title improvements at good programs who move up faster than a coach accomplishing real results in tougher situations.

How is Mario ahead of Kirby Smart. Both are coaches under saban. How is Mario more qualified than Kirby who has been under saban for years and actually specializes in one side of the ball and is actually very good at it.

I hate the "Miami Guy," mentality. It's gonna bury this program.

Smart is the guy who should get looked at, ESPECIALLY if they're looking at Cuban Alf.

I'm not a fan of going with a coordinator, but if they are considering coordinators, Smart is at the top of the coordinator pool - above Pruitt.

Im with LU here. I keep trying to understand. On the face of it, Mario seems like he should not be anywhere near a serious candidate. And yet from every angle that seems to matter, BESIDES the fans, the guy seems to be so highly thought of and people are pushing for him. What do these people see/know that we don't?

The only way Mario should be an option is if we had $50 to pay our next coach. Das it.

i'm not supporter of mario getting the HBC (spurrier). i dont think he has the qualifications.

having said that, what would you consider to be the most important traits/attributes of a HBC?

I woulnd't even consider him then because he would just get up and leave us hanging at a moment's notice. He's deserted us twice AND he's talked **** about our program while he recruiting at Rutgers and FIU. For as much love as this guy says he has for the school, I'm sure he would leave here at the drop of a hat and leave us high and dry.

No.

thanks.

We need someone that understands X's and O's for ***** sake.

**** recruiting and rah rah bull****, I want a guy that understands attacking offense and defense and adaptability.

Winning cure all the other crap.

I almost had a little respect for him for telling Gluten to **** his own face, but for real, Cristobal has never done a **** thing. Someone else pointed out do you really think he's in line for USC, South Carolina, Minnesota etc.? **** no. We are the only ones dumb enough at this point to consider him.

This "he's a great recruiter" stuff has GOT to end. Besides, he's not out there on the recruiting trail! Sure he goes on some visits, but the position coaches do the legwork of the recruiting. You round out your staff with good recruiters - you don't need your HC to be a superstar recruiter.

Here's a basic question: what makes Mario better than Folden was when Folden got hired here?

Folden, at least, had coordinated a defense and didn't get fired from Temple. He didn't go 3-9 in the ****** Sun Belt in his 4th year after having the chance to demonstrate his supposed strength (recruiting) for several years.

You guys who are making excuses for Cristobag or playing devil's advocate please explain your way around how he could go 3-9 after having several years to stock his roster. If his strength is recruiting and building then how did he go 3-9 in the Sun Belt after having 4 years to recruit in South Florida? Even Folden the clown was on an upward trajectory at Temple in a better conference with less access to players in his back yard.

I mentioned on the first page how his recruiting prowess is nothing but an urban legend at this point. No clue where it's coming from.

Yeah, I haven't even begun to challenge that nonsense. Who did he sign of note in his few years here and at Rutgers? I'm not even considering Bama at this point b/c that program sells itself.

Because they're mouth breathers; you're really wasting your time. Logic can't penetrate tin foil.

Mario has a lot of friends. He's a schmoozer. That's how he's making a ton of money with no identifiable skills as a football coach.

Those friends of his are the guys touting their friend. It's simple. People like to see their friends succeed. Fortunately, he doesn't have many friends on this board, so you're seeing an honest assessment of him here unlike from his friends.

It's #canesfam , bro. For the life of me, I don't understand why we haven't pursued the head coach at the Scheck Hillel Community School. We had a black coach, we're looking at a Cuban coach. There are 500,000 Jews in South Florida. This is anti-Semitism at its finest.

Marios "tenure" under Saban=Golden's "Cloud." Just an excuse for people who like him to stray away from the plethora of facts that show he is not a good football coach.

My favorite is the people that criticize Butchs decisions 10 years ago but then talk about how much Cristobal has learned and changed being around Saban

I can't believe we are having this conversation.

The renewed optimism I got from Sunday's firing has already dissipated into pessimism with the thought that this guy is even on the list.

Well-said.

Ding Ding Ding. Stopped reading after this.

If people REALLY want to go back to what made Miami great, it was INNOVATION.

Schnelly bringing a pro passing game. Jimmy bringing an aggressive 4-3 defense. Erickson bringing the single-back offense.

We don't need a recruiter. We don't need someone who "understands" South Florida. We need someone who understands X's & O's and how to gameplan. People talk about Alabama's facilities and recruiting. But what gets lost in all that is Nick Saban is one of the best defensive minds of this generation. Bill ****ing Bellichick hired him to be his defensive coordinator as soon as he got a head coaching gig. Bama goes into every game with a schematic advantage defensively.

We need that. I want an elite X's & O's guy who can do more with less. THAT is how you recruit.
