Please help me understand - Mario Cristobal

Well Florida school want him due to the fact he recruits this area well. He actually turned down the Rutgers job and then they gave it to Kyle Flood, he interviewed at Pitt also. He hasn't chosen to interview the last couple years, ppl close to him say it was in waiting of this job. But in reality he has been waiting for a spot that will give him the support he needs to put his staff together. From what I have heard he has a plan to interview here with a staff list already assembled. But we will see, another thing I have heard is USF is a possibility for him. Bigger schools love to spend money on names, lots of rumors of Fuentes likely to South Carolina due to the fact the hiring committee that got him the Memphis job was hired to search for a coach for the Gamecocks. Mario's biggest issue is there are to many stories of why he was fired at FIU, and like all businesses, you want to fully vet your next CEO or you run to the safer bet. Mario is better suited to coach in Florida just as many believe Golden is better suited for jobs in the Northeast, they just fit in well in their respected areas.

I believe he was canned at FIU because he posted 7 and 8 win seasons, and then turned around and went 3-9.

Pete Garcia was not pleased. But some rumors were that he fired him to try and hire Butch Davis, if I recall correctly.

Mario's "work" making headlines via Alabama media (check out the fan comments)

Why Alabama offensive line remains a question mark | AL.com

"Cristobal has a great reputation, but if the proof is in the pudding, I hope Miami takes him."

"the O Line is weak, and these are supposed to be 4 and 5 star guys. Cristobal may be a great recruiter, but we need someone to teach these guys how to block before Coker gets killed."

"The O-line has not been as good since Christobal got here that is obvious."

"line play has been worse since cristobal took over. very inconsistent. he can recruit. o line play not too good."

"The previous O-line coach who left for Philadelphia was a great coach who didnt want to recruit.... Cristobal is a great recruiter but is not a great coach. Kind of a catch-22."

"I agree on that but Bama will have to part ways with Mario this year if they want to get better on the offensive line in the future. It's hard to believe that with all the talent on the line that they are getting abused like they are unless it's poor coaching. I think they will move on from him unless he leaves on his own to be a coach. He is getting attention from FIU and they can have him."

"Yeah, they can find someone else to recruit south Florida. The cost is proving too high."

"Yea, I have known that for a long time. The ironic part is Cristobal was a lineman and a head coach. However, you are right on the money."

"I really think that since Mario Cristobal has become the offensive line coach Bama has had some issues with the line. Even though Bama had success last year, they still had a lot of line breakdowns. Besides having qb issues, I believe the line is not performing."

"If they were getting any kind of coaching that was good they wouldn't still be this bad. I really hope Saban shows Cristobal the door asap"

"I don't know about that but I fully support Mario for that Miami job! Immediately."

This will translate to "Mario is killing it in Alabama under Saban!" by the media choads down here that more than likely couldn't tell you if he's coaching tight ends, special teams or OL there.

Going to seriously need more than that. Is there anything substantive someone can offer here? This may be important.

This scares the shlt out of me. Please elaborate if you can do so.

I'm still perplexed this program is willing to flex a little financial muscle by offering $4 million to the next coach, yet is considering a dude who was fired from Florida Fcking International.

We're finally in the position where we can be competitive with financial resources and a guy who was 20 games under .500 coaching in the Sun Belt is a candidate. I hope Jimmy Johnson slaps the shlt out of Blake James and tells him to wake the fck up, this is Folden 2.0.

Knock out Kaaya for the rest of the year and what is our record? He went 3-9 due to the fact the Starting Qb was lost in game 3 of the season and they lost 21-14 to Lousiville that year or something close. And that was a Teddy lead Cardinal team.

He cannot call plays, he will be terrible in that role. Some people either manage it all or just one section, but he cannot call plays. Not his strong suit.

I didn't cherry pick the article from ancient history either. It was f'n posted yesterday.

The fact that he hasn't addressed the 3 posts in this thread pointing out his ominous words is a bad sign.

It's so pathetic it's almost comical. By that standard then just promote Coley. He can recruit and "knows" Miami! Effing nauseating.

Pete is part of the problem, extremely Egotisitical, he thought his relationship with Butch would save all for FIU and Butch would jump at the job. That didn't happen. All I will say is Pete's ego had to do with the firing and not the record FIU had, if it was the record he wouldn't have been offered the Rutgers job and turned it down if he felt he was on the outs.

It is just the Cuban media mafia at Miami trying to bring in one of their own.

They tried to get a jump ahead but fans have caught on and reacted...

That's not Mario's biggest problem.

True but I'd sure as **** like Pete Garcia to start leaking anti-Luigi stories real soon.

Pete used to be Butch's best friend (don't know if they're still close), so maybe he'll spread some trash on Cystobal to help Butch.

Having said that, Pete was ten times better than our last few ADs.

He just wouldn't give into Shalala and that did not fly..
