Piecing together Richt's staff (with updates)

Rocker won't be going back to his alma mater, Auburn according to some of their fans on the 247 site. Some issues between Rocker and admin/staff.

Smart is free to retain anyone from Richt's staff but their fans are saying Pruitt's agent, Jimmy Sexton is shopping him to the highest bidder. Rocker wants to stay at UGA but it isn't clear if Smart wants him and others.

UGA mod says Pruitt isn't expected to be with UGA for their bowl game...he's expected to be at Alabama by then. Kevin Sherrer is the one Rusty Mansell thinks will call the defense....no update on Rocker.

Perhaps my original thought that only potentially retained coaches are out recruiting with Richt was off base. Seems like everyone is out there - does anybody know if that's typical for a lame duck staff?

my guess is that this may also be an audition for potential staff. Richt can see first hand how these coaches conduct themselves, get to chat with them informally, see how they relate to players and families. Don't think it means if they are out recruiting it means they have the job locked, but may give them an opportunity to show Richt what they bring to the table as he evaluates them.

All these guys need to find jobs, either with Mark or elsewhere. I think they are trying hard to separate themselves from Golden's stink and to show that "they" were not the problem.

personally, I think anyone associated with the defense needs to go. It needs an entire overhaul and change of culture. On the offensive side, I don't think it is as dire. Any kind of continuity by keeping some of the guys on the offense (e.g. Scott, Coley, Beard, etc.) would not be so detrimental.

I read where he brought Coley, Kehoe, and Scott to talk with Allison. Maybe that means something.

This^^.
Plus, these coaches are still under contract. If they didn't accompany Richt for his initial contact with these recruits, it would be a sure sign that they had no hope of being retained, IMO.

In other words, this is probably the norm.

Not only that - coley is the bridge to Richt, regardless if he stays on staff or not. Need that for continuity and I think Richt knows he can't mess up the Allison committment (bird in hand and all). I think Richt knows Eason is a pipe dream, so he needs to secure Allison.

It's probably not a pipe dream. I don't think he is coming. Why come to back up Kaaya, when you can go to Florida and UGA to start?

That's a reasonable assumption, thanks.

It seems that brown is the only one on the defensive side that is recruiting with CMR and just about the entire offensive side has gone with the exception of 2. That would leave me to believe that the coaches he brings with him are here to stay and the others are probably out. Even beard unfortunately

I'm not too worried about him keeping much of this staff. I think bringing them on recruiting trips is simply him using them as a liaison between himself and current commits. He needed to quickly meet with the verbals he plans on keeping and form a relationship with them. The current staff helped him do that.

Once the dead period begins, I believe the ax will start to fall as he brings in his staff and prepares for the stretch run in recruiting.

that is a good observation. Other than Brown, noone on the defensive side has been recruiting with him, yet he has brought Kehoe, Scott, Coley, etc on other recruiting trips, and apparently Kehoe already let out of the bag with at least one recruit that he was being retained.

Coley finds good quarterbacks

Is a recruiter

Should stay on without play calling... Not sure he would do it... Also would rather have Dorsey....

Other than that, hope Richt calls plays.

I don't think Richt need's Coley's help to find QBs. He's done a pretty nice job on his own.

I saw a headline or tweet noting that Coach Melvin and Kareem Brown were out recruiting, and promised Jaquwan Nelson his spot was still secure.

Jaquwan Nelson, Fort Lauderdale, Weak-Side Defensive End

I'm guessing everyone who wants to stay on staff has been offered the opportunity to continue recruiting.. Everyone else is probably doing bowl prep work ... Meaning D'Onofio and Paul Williams.

I assume Kevin Beard wants to stay on staff, but maybe there are legs to McClendon coming? Especially if McClendon gets the OC job, since Richt will be the QB coach and play-caller ...

After the soft mentality Golden was drilling into the players and coaches heads, and comments from guys like Brown and Scott, I don't want to retain a single member of the staff.

In my mind, every one of them has been tainted by working under Al. They carry that Golden gene in them now and at any moment they could tell the media 8 wins is good at Miami now because things have changed, or they might bring out some small vanilla cones to their unit during a heated scrimmage.

I'm in favor of burning this thing to the ground. Firing squad on the whole group and start fresh.

1:35 in, I don't spend time daily with Hurlie but that's some soft comments right there. Sounds just like Golden.

All coaches talk like that. Read a piece once about a successful head coach talking about what he had learned from saban about running a program. He sounded shockingly like al. al worked his "magic" with fan, the school, and the press for so long because he SOUNDED like a guy who knew wtf he was doing. Coaches often talk about "being multiple" and "getting it cleaned up" and how "it starts with me". I wouldn't judge a coach by what he says to the media. When was the last time you heard one say that the other team was crap and anything less than a 4 TD win was failure? Doesn't mean the good ones aren't thinking it.
