Pete is part of the Problem

I’m starting to get deeply concerned about the people that run this website. Over the past two years, since Danny decided to begin creating weekly and then daily content, it’s become more of a Clickbait space. The podcasts are very repetitive in terms of what they talk about but they get the clicks and the attention and the ad revenue continues to come in and that’s a good thing for them. And I understand, everyone needs to make money.

But this community was built on honesty, transparency, and boldness. If I wanted to go to a regional level ESPN website or rivals, then I would go there. I’ll come here for truth.

I love Danny to pieces, but it seems like if he is a lost soul at this point. It seems that he is way too close to the university and has some type of handshake deal that allows him to have pretty good access as long as he does not criticize the team out loud or any of the players out loud. That has become painfully clear.

Pete, on the other hand, as far more honest, transparent, and bold. He’s the only one that has the guts to criticize the team and the staff, along with Mike Ryan Felipe Louise Smithson Ruiz.

This has nothing to do with yesterday’s loss, it has to do with lack of perspective and balance. Unless things change relatively soon, I will not be listening to their podcast, and I just peruse the site for the user content only. Because right now the only ones that are being honest and truthful are the users.
Yup! Been said this! People are going in on Pete for being honest and a little wild at times, but money is on Miami’s payroll and protects his $$$. Never criticizes the staff! Best you get is an “I agree” after reading a harsh comment. Get used to it! He’s a talking head for the Columbus mafia!

This is my 2nd forced post of the year.

Yesterday I heard one Pete state we need to lower our expectations after the loss. Meaning not this season for every season going forward.

How about no. Vandy and IU were cesspool programs for years. Worse than our worst years.

If Mario cant win in November find someone who can.

And BTW we are averaging 8.5 penalties per game in P5 games. This is higher than in 2022 by 1 penalty in P5 games and those were Mannys players with far less talent.

Mario is coaching not to lose. He is not coaching to win.

His pound the other team has made his own team punch drunk. Want evidence. Fletcher is hurt, Messidor is hurt, Bain is hurt, Daniels is hurt and Toney was hobbling off. Your over used players are getting hurt.

Inept doesn't even begin to describe it.
It’s a few weeks late, but this is time for Mario & staff to do some self reflection. Great start to the season, but teams have adjusted & we’ve stubbornly failed to adapt. What’s crazy is we had two bye weeks already. Apparently killed it on recruiting trail, but didn’t bother with X & Os.

Pete is absolutely correct. Mario is a poor man’s mark richt and the expectation should be 8-10 wins a year with him. Maybe if we get extremely lucky and field 01 level roster we get to 11 wins.

Pete was/is spot on. The funny thing is many of you ***** about him “being too negative”
We all know that is all Mario can bring at this point. Top 5 in the nation roster. Middle of the pack ACC play on the field. But that should not be accepted. If this much money is dumped into a program, it’s a complete waste of money for these results. If he can’t do better, he needs to go sooner than later

I get where Pete was coming from and emotions run high after a loss like that. You can tell he loves Miami football, and that’s what makes him great at what he does. But last night he lacked professionalism.

From a marketing and business standpoint, he’s gotta remember he’s one of the faces of CanesInsight. When you’re on camera, you can’t let the fan in you take over. Off-camera, talk how you want. But on the mic, you’ve got to keep it composed balanced and fair.

D-Money nailed that balance tonight, you could tell he was frustrated too, but he still kept it professional. Pete just needs to tighten that up going forward.

D$ and Pete are paid propagandists. Of course they are going to hype the team up but also try and calm the masses when the team inevitably stinks. Its gotta suck having to make content after an L like this. Hope they are getting time and a half. 🙏

Carson Beck's offseason reports are going on D's refrigerator right alongside of the picture of he and Kirby Freeman on Greentree. The arm was cooked to perfect al dente the first game of the year and hes been making dumb decisions all year.

The wide receivers other than Toney are inconsistent and drop way too many balls.

This is one of the most undisciplined teams weve ever had. And we used to have a team that would show up still half in the bag from a night at night at the club and give no ***** about their behavior on the field. Silly ****, too. False starts. Illegal procedure. Illegal man down field. Almost 9 penalties a game. Over 10 penalties in losses. Thats one penalty a drive. Your chances of points diminish greatly with the penalties we have in games. Add the turnovers and its a disaster.

We stink.

Pete isn’t “part of the problem” but I was disappointed with his reaction yesterday on the post game pod. He had nothing to say about the staff. It was really incredible to watch.
I like Pete and he and D have turned out to make a really enjoyable podcast.

That said, I don’t take seriously when I hear them say (Pete lately) that they say what they want. The reality is that they carry water for the school and staff. They obviously have a direct line to the staff and they have to be careful about what they say on the pod.

I’ll be the first to go at anyone on this site pedaling false information and ridiculous early narratives, and Pete is not the problem. In fact, he addressed the elephant in the room weeks before anyone else related to CIS did, back when people were still trying to spin the FSU win as an elite performance.

I will have to disagree. I don’t think anyone really misses the old version of the site because D-Money is still just as truthful and unfiltered. He’s simply learned how to balance honest criticism with fairness, and that’s what makes CanesInsight unique. You still get real opinions and inside info, but it’s delivered with professionalism instead of just frustration.

When you’re running a platform like CanesInsight, you have to walk a fine line between being honest and maintaining relationships that keep the access alive. It’s not about selling out; it’s about staying connected so the site can continue giving us the coverage and insight we want.

Now that he’s running a well-balanced site with real access to the program, we’re getting information most fanbases never see. That access matters. It’s better to have someone on the inside who can share details and context, even if it means being measured, than to lose that connection just to bash coaches or players when it’s not necessary.

And on top of that, running a site this size isn’t cheap. To keep the coverage at this level, you have to monetize it. That’s how you eventually bring in the best writers, staff, and contributors—people who can grow the brand and keep the community thriving.

From a marketing standpoint, I completely get that balance. When you start doing podcasts and daily content, you have to think about consistency, growth, and revenue. That doesn’t mean honesty is gone; it just means the approach looks more professional.

I still think D-Money handles it the right way. You can read between the lines and tell when he’s not happy with something. He just chooses to stay composed and keep it respectful, and that’s what a real leader of the platform should do.

My expectations for the program remain the same. Compete for the ACC title through the end of the season, and winning the title regularly. Unrealistic in today’s CFB to demand more. With ACC titles come CFP berths.

My expectations for the program under Mario Cristobal remain the same. Start the season strong but falter by November, annually losing multiple games as a favorite. A 10-win season would be the anomaly. 9 wins is the ceiling. I do not expect ACC titles. Even his recruiting will fall below expectations. Five-star and four-star players sign but few will develop into the player they are projected to become. They will be replaced by portal transfers which will be hit and miss.

My expectation is that it will get worse over the next several seasons before there is any chance of getting better.

Remember it’s marathon, not a sprint! We will be running this marathon into the abyss with no end in sight. This regime is excellent at narrative and setting expectations to maximize their runway. Unfortunately for cafecito, he’s out of runway

For the record, I pushed back on Pete when he said we should lower expectations. That lets the people in the building off the hook for underachieving with this roster.

On the show, we addressed the penalties (dating back to Oregon), the team getting worse over the course of the season, leading the nation in losses as a double-digit favorite, the core identity of the program (man-on-man physicality) failing against weak ACC opponents, and more. If you listened and think I was making excuses for anybody, point out where so we can be better.

One thing I'll repeat it: nobody from inside the building has ever told me to be less negative. It's never happened. Anybody that assumes otherwise is wrong.

I won't vent my emotions and name call like an anonymous fan for reasons that should be obvious. But I have two forums (this board and the live chat on the show) where people can vent. Those that watch the show know that we always promote and highlight negative comments the same as positive comments. Obviously, you get the same thing here.

Before the season, my prediction was 10-2 and I said anything less than a playoff birth was a failure. Right now, we're trending to miss on both despite relative health. I don't think the solution is lowering expectations, which is why I disagreed with Pete's take so strongly.
