Personnel Wise…Who would you like to see more of at this point

Lyle and Trader. Some of the young defensive ends behind Mesidor and Bain

This for me.

Honestly, on offense, the ideal is more Lyle and trader. They are what’s missing in our offense. Teams are going to key in on 7/10 and we have no third option in the passing game. Likewise, we have no threat from the backfield with just 4/6 carrying the ball.

On defense, wouldn’t mind seeing 44 get some snaps at DE and more 5/93. Getting a few snaps a game from those two isn’t going to cut it.

Scroggins and more O’Connor. Schematically I’d like to see more 10 personnel to use space and taking a te off the field to add a wr. The tight congested sets are ok but we’ve been way too predictable . Ask any DC and he’d tell you’d he’d much rather face tight formations versus spread. The space and playing wide to the hashes pretty much gives you and extra man. We’ve proven we can be physical and finesse so I’d like to see more of the finesse early. On defense more man and bump / run coverage. Especially in third and medium situations.

If Trader can get his head on straight and play to his talent he is the answer. He is too talented to give up on him yet. After Trader, Moore is our best bet. I dont know enough about Upshaw yet. If we had Trader for Louisville game I think we likely win. He can stretch the D better than what we are getting. Defenses are keying on Toney and Daniels.

Precisely. And we know that Merion is not a WR3. We've tried that several times and he's a gadget guy. If Trader had his head on straight, we'd be straight on offense. Unfortunately, he doesn't so now we're stuck trying to fill a void. If Trader ain't the guy, I'd rather play Moore a bit more to try it out rather than keep trying Merion and getting the same results everytime.

I’d like to see aggressive play calling and putting guys in positions to succeed.

Enough with throwing away downs running into the back of the center… RPOs with someone like lofton, carver or Schott to start attacking the edges and stop letting teams free fire into the A gaps

Like to see Moore with more 50-50 ball chances like the USF game…. Love Toney but he’s pulling double coverages and with a safety on top they aren’t gonna let him be the one to beat them deep.

Lyle in some zone blocking runs… this bully ball shove the back for another couple yards is cute for 3&1 or goal line but in the middle of the **** field?! Cmon man

Love to see some new blood at linebacker…. We need some athleticism if we’re gonna see experience guys get killed in coverage or miss tackles I’d rather see more athletic young players earning their stripes and learning for the betterment
How about a little more tempo, we take forever to get out of our huddle. We should target a minimum of 80 plays, per game. Watching our offense, is like watching paint dry.

There is no point in making a new post about this but I will tell you here since you are one of the more respected posters here for a long time and I think you would agree with this.

But in my opinion if Mario can't win the final 6 games of this regular season given his talent and who we play, then i would say it appears Mario may not be the guy to take this program back to national prominence again and win another NC. I could be wrong but based on the evidence at hand and the fact we are in his 4th year in the ACC, what else do you need? I never doubted Mario's recruiting ability or talent evaluation.

I am still hopeful Mario can fix this and win the final 6 and make the playoff and go from there. I am pulling for him and rooting hard for it to happen. I am cautiously optimistic. GO Canes!

I don't think it's a reach to make that comment on Mario. I think most of us knew Mario for what he was - great recruiter/talent acquirer/culture builder but a subpar gameday strategic manager. Coaches like that typically have a ceiling (9-10 wins), imo. The hope is that he would catch lightning in a bottle every few years or so.

If the staff won't deviate from their plan of tush push-ing down the field with the occasional WR screen, then why not use a 6th OL at least 30% of the time?

Lofton's a mental midget but instead of asking him to block in-line, maybe line him up in the backfield with Fletcher and move him around pre-snap.

Toney should be receiving direct hand-offs every game, and he should be used as a wildcat QB often. He's our only hope.

I honestly want to see less of the tight ends in general. I think we’ll have more success running the ball out of 4 WR sets. I don’t even care who the WR’s are. Toney/CJ of course and then any combo of Marion/Johnson/Moore/Jojo. Let’s run at light 6 man boxes and not 7/8 man boxes.
Think the issue is we don't have 3 WR, nevermind 4. For example, on the first Beck pick we ran Marion deep along the sideline, and the safety he was supposed to occupy is the one who ended up making the pick. I don't think teams fear him, even when we run him deep along the sideline.

Still think the more 21 personnel we see the better, and if we mix in 20 with no TE that's cool too.

We need to do things that we struggle at to get better at them. We need to work in guys at areas we don't have clear development. We need to sub guys out who consistently **** up.

- Idk how anyone can look at our LB performance this past week and not think every LB on this roster who has ability shouldn't get some reps/opportunity these next 3 games. Popo and Smith needs to start against Stanford just to send the message to Toure and Wes that their dog**** tackling performance was unacceptable from a LB. Then Wiley needs to get on the field at least 10 snaps.

- We NEED to start rotating in a little bit at nickel. Start getting other guys a little experience there. Scott literally plays every single snap. Get other guys at least 7-10 snaps.

- Obviously the DLine needs to be rotated in. It's simple in the first 3 quarter the starters are in but if the offense picks up a 1st or two, then half the DLine should be rotated out to get other guys in the mix. Then after 3-4 plays starters back in or the other half rotates out for a few. You want to preserve the starters for A) the full season and B) the 4th quarter. Literally we have like one guy they actually play at edge on non pure pass rush downs in place of Bain/Mesidor = Blount. You have to get other guys snaps. Justin Scott needs more experience too. Simpson and even Daylen Russell should be getting in the game instead of always Blount at DT. This is simple ****.

- the RB rotation is just certified ****ed due to the run game scheme. We just Need Lyle to start playing 5x better than he has. There's nothing more to it but that.

- TE rotation, Bauman is getting literally 2-3x more snaps than he should be. Get Schott and Gilbert the **** in the game. Lofton needs to start performing. But if all our TEs are gonna be used for is the outlet passes then Lofton is FAR better than Bauman at that cause he can actually get YAC! So can Schott. None of our TEs have earned exclusively playing time. So why the **** Bauman is on the field 90% of ******* snaps is pure insanity. Why do we literally never go 10 personnel? You're telling me Bauman has been better than Josh Moore to the point we can have 2 TEs on the field 10000x more than 4 WR? Give me a break.

- also just as a fun package I'd love to see Toney at wildcat QB, Fletcher or Lofton at "FB" and Lyle at RB and do some classic speed/triple option with some play action passes off it.

All that is more long term focused. What immediately must change and is by far the most critical is just the entire offensive mentality. This staff needs to completely abandon the conservative nature. Period. Everything stems from that. If we were more aggressive naturally wed get more rotation going.

More of Bain and Lightfoot on the same side.

More of Brown other than the short-yard downs. Lead blocker for Lyle?

More off-tackle runs and sweeps with Lyle with this hyped up OL.

Less screens. More routes between the hashes using Baby Jesus as a decoy. How about using a RB to chip and cover the flat after the Trips release?

More eye candy using Baby Jesus to open up the other wideouts and TEs. Crossing routes with CJ, drags, etc.

More option routes to allow our WRs to sit in zones versus running into them.

More aggressive playcalling starting from the coin toss until post game interviews.

Good stuff here…Bolded the ones I agree with most

Ya it seems like any established senior, especially if a portal player really has to f**k up to lose snaps….Most of them are playing well, but just saying… Not all of them.

This…I've defended Bissainthe on this board, and honestly he has had some good moments this year. But my god was he bad against Louisville…And Toure I've said 100 times is a thumper, doesn't need to be on the field in passing downs . Aguirre imo is underrated and plays well when in the game. I have no idea what has happened to Pruitt. If the LB struggle in passing downs (it's probably the most obvious weakness on this defense), @DMoney isn't Pruitt the obvious answer here?

I wouldn't mind seeing it…But that's more of a thing for next year. But yeah if Scott is hurt we are f**ked. Hard to take him off the field, he has been as or more important than Bain to this defense.

Moten has been a stud, Blay pretty good…But I agree Get #5 on the field for more than 10 snaps a game, he has been good as well. And Lightfoot makes **** happen literally every time he is on the field and he someow had 8 snaps against Lousiville. I can't fathom Malik Bryant not being able to help on this team at all either. Yes he's a tweener, but he can give you situational play or rest the starters for a drive here and there. I'm surprised he's BURIED like this, unless they know he's transferring and they think well enough for him to honor a redshirt request if they know he's leaving.

.

Can't argue here either. I have no problem never being in 10 if it isn't your offense, I get it... But again Baumann is another portal player, and Mario seems to have made a pact with these kids. I don't see it with him as a blocker or receiver…Get Schott out there or give Lofton Baumann's snaps.

Ehhh whatever. Probably nitpicking here, but yeah ya wouldn't mind a little variety.

You can win with conservative if you have a good defense, and we do…But running up the center's a$$ 15 times a game ain't it. You aren't doing your RB, passing game, or OL…Frankly any part of your offense any favors.

Which personnel grouping outside of Toney individually is ideal for tempo?
