Per Pete: Assistant Coach budget around $3 Million

Better than before but not elite. FSU, for comparison, spends 4 million on assistant coaches but then again, this is Jumbo 5th/6th year as a HC and he's won a NC, I'm sure it started much lower.
 
If that includes coordinators, that wouldn't be that exciting. That would be around 28-30th highest paid.
 
we were willing to pay more for a dc ($1M per) than a lot of SEC schools pay their DC

we don't have to pay for a big name oc, so that probably plays a huge part in that number. diaz's contract at msu was $625k at its peak and i highly doubt we're giving him anywhere higher than $700k. even if diaz is at $1 million (not a chance, but to speculate) that's $2 million to divide up amongst a special teams coordinator and position coaches.

I understand how a budget works. If you save money here, you can apply it elsewhere. I also understand that Richt will call the plays but we still will have some OC and WR coach, they need some form of compensation.

My point is we're not really paying that much in reality (28th to 30th overall). I get that we don't need a top OC too. I am just not impressed with the number because in reality it is NOT impressive. Then again, maybe the source is being fed chit.

Exactly. FSU is around 5th in assistant pay and Fisher calls plays.
 
Regardless we got one of the best coaches in all of college football, some great assistants as well. This appears to be a great staff, easily the best Miami has had since the Coker days
 
I agree $3M sounds low, but the truth is we have a good staff but none that demand big bucks. Diaz will probably be the highest at around $500K. Kuligowski is probably around $350. BTW, Richt's staff last year was $4.8M. Also, BTW, Golden's staff last year was very close to $3M as well.

I don't equate money spent to success, but it is interesting if his budget drops 38%.
 
I would assume Kuligowski is one of the higher paid DL coaches, so $350K might be a little low. Rumors were Thomas Brown was at $600K but with a $3M budget I would doubt that figure. I understand Brown is co-OC as a well as RB coach $600K seems too high for his resume. Lane Kiffin makes just over $600K at Alabama and like him or not his resume far exceeds Browns, even with Alabama's bloated budget.

Diaz isn't leaving Miss St for a paycut and I'd be willing to bet Kuligowski is coming here for north of $500k. We're saving substantial money by getting a HC and OC all in one.
 
If we can't win with that budget for coaches than we have no excuses. Anyone complaining that it is too low get your checkbook out and put your money where your mouth is.

Sure he got a bump... Let's be nice and say he's at 800k. That leaves about 2.2 mil for 8 other coaches if we believe Pete.

At 3 million, we would be at about 24th in assistant salaries, but remember we are unlikely to be paying for a full Oc so our effective rate probably puts us in the top 15 programs in that area
