Penalties

OP, you don't hide gridlines?!

Ohio State is even worse than us in terms of national. I assume they have some pretty good players. I wonder if there's some inherent bias with refs in terms of favoring underdogs, even if its subconsciously.

I'll ask my shrink about it.

This is the point that no one wants to discuss.

Penalties do not correlate to winning % as much as some think. Good teams win despite penalties.

Plenty of other stats that are much better indicators.

Here are some decent teams that rank near the bottom of the pack in penalties:

Someone (not from here) did their own little analysis on the ACC a while back and the conclusion was that the ACC does tend to favor the "underdog" in ACC match ups. Obviously not specific to just Miami but found it interesting when I saw it back in the day.

When I get a few min later today, I will try to find it

That's not the argument. The argument is that according to your son, each team that Miami has played this year, has had their lowest total of penalties vs us than their other opponents, and that simply isn't true.

And secondly, what I also found, our opponents penalties against us ARE close to what they committed against other teams. Do you know what that reveals? It reveals that our opponents are disciplined, and Miami is one of the worst disciplined teams in the country.

It's not the refs. It's Miami.
How many of those penalties were holding? Because that’s what you should be really focused on.

All of sudden when OL play us they are Tom Yamasaki of OL blocking and do not hold. When we know Bain is held 5-7 times game.

So those 5 v 6 ratio means **** if it’s illegal shift and false starts.

I do wonder if the super tight splits make it very tough for refs to see the holding as clearly as opposed to more traditional OL sets. Bain is a diff story he just needs to be more animated each play early to make them look closer.

Its not just ACC refs (which we already know)

Someone brought up the point that in the 80's when we were dominating in microwave fashion upsetting the apple cart for the blue bloods.

(Have a great anecdotal story about an AP calculus teacher in high school, Bama donor who when seeing me wear a green 36 Lamar Thomas jersey in 1992 look me dead in the eye and say, you're a Miami fan? Mr. Lee was always really nice to me previously. I said yes. He said I HATE MIAMI. And I hate you too. And then kept walking. I couldn't believe it. Nobody believed me except my buddy Jason who overheard him. This was in North Carolina but I felt it all around the south)

Point being, all that hate was transferred to the sons, my age and a bit older/younger. The age group that runs things now. Conference officials, refs, fans, **** i can hear it on the radio by omission here in Raleigh on 99.9 the fan.

Short of full oversight of college football officiating, I dont think anything can be done as a whole

What can be done is our HC and Admin pushing it on a transactional level by shining a spotlight on individual refs and crews, by shouting to the high heavens that hopefully pushes out the egregious. But even then
